If you haven't signed up yet, there are 2 schools that would be a much better investment for any aspiring MT.

Andrews & M-Tec. If you go to either of those, you won't have to worry about any of the above concerns and you can just concentrate on learning the course material.

I've been an MT for 17 years, and I'm ready to change careers now because I don't like working at home, but I only wish I knew of a site where I had access to multiple vets of my future career would spell out the best path for me the way I just did for you.

Please, check out this website:

www.allstatetranscription.com

This company specializes in getting new grads off to a good start with an internship program to get you the experience you need in the real world. It's worth the reasonable fee they charge.

Meditec is another option in the same field.

Check them out!!

Would like to give transcription another chance
Hello,
My name is Cathy and I did medical transcription in the past, but they kept on switching accounts everytime I got to the point of making more money. To say the least, I have been very discouraged. I would love to find someone to work for again and give this a try.
Giving newbies a chance
Here's the problem--MTSOs want qualified MTs who can do any kind of hospital (acute care) dictation. They don't have time or the money to spend training newbies who signed up for programs that only teach entry-level, office dictation.

MTSOs know this already. They're not going to give you "a chance" because they don't believe you can do the work. They have experience with graduates from that school already.

Your school taught you that you need to put a marketing packet together to get a job. That's what you do if you want to get clients on your own. That's what your program prepared you to do-- entry-level office dictation.

Isn't that what you wanted? That's what you signed up for when you enrolled in that school.

Giving newbies a chance
With all due respect, those of us who are new to the industry and trying to learn can do without your condescending attitude. You do not know what my capabilities are. You are right about one thing, however. I would rather market myself and work on my own than suffer the apparent misery many of you "experienced" MTs are enduring working for the MTSOs. To those that have offered constructive advice- thank you, it is appreciated.
Found a company that is willing to give new MT graduates a chance

Hello,

A company called World Direct Transcription Services, called me yesterday. And she asked me a couple of questions, and then asked me if i would take 2 tests. I said yes of course! One test is a terms test, other is a typing test, also she wanted me to go to a certain website and take a speed typing test too. I will let everyone know today if i get hired.
