gay students get beat up no more than kids who are considered to be dorks, geeks, freaks, etc.

I went to school in a small town.  We had one guy in our school who openly professed to be gay.  He was a super nice guy.  He walked more feminine than I did and he kind of reminded you of Jack off of Will & Grace.  He never once got beat up in our school.  He had friends.  There were kids who made fun of him, but he didn't care.  He had so much confidence that he couldn't care less what others thought of him.  He really was one of the best "girlfriends" I had in high school.  But I still don't agree with his lifestyle and he accepted that of me because I didn't treat him any different than I do other people.

I think acceptance and tolerance could be taught on both sides.  I think there are a lot of gay people and gay supporters who hate people who don't agree with that lifestyle.  They call them names.  They tell them they are heartless, etc.  Then you have those who don't agree with that lifestyle treating them like crap, calling them names, etc.

I think a good teaching of tolerance could be taught to both sides here.
