ONLY the Gaza Strip? Do you have an idea a tiny the Gaza Strip is?

Posted By: () on 2009-06-12
In Reply to: Israel was willing........... sm - m

Obiously not. Look it up online! And it is encircled by Israel in the East and by the Mediterranean Sea in the West. The Palestinians want also the Westbank, that Israel conquered from Jordan in the 1967 war.

Gaza Strip

Israel renews Gaza attacks.

The Jewish state launched about 100 strikes on the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

I can't believe there are those who believe the 8000 peole in the Gaza strip should
occupy one-third of the land, while the other 1 MILLION people live in the other two-third.

Granted, I'll concede that I have not followed it except that I know the land is sacred, but the settlers themselves should be able to see the unfairness in this.

I think it was a standup think for the Israeli president to do from where I'm sitting.
Sure, my little Hitler mustache, or landing strip or fish stick...whatever
you wish to call it. Sorry you can't afford your own razors.
Hamas live in Gaza.
That makes them civilians, too, the same way our elected officials are also citizens and live in their respective states. If living in their own houses in their own neighborhoods is "hiding," then that statement is accurate.
This is a lie. They live in Gaza. They don't hide there.
They were democratically elected into power, defeating the Fatah party, which retains its majority in the West Bank, but Hamas has won elections there, too.

The majority of the people in Gaza live in the squalor of refugee camps under the iron fist of their hostile occupiers who imposed an apartheid police state and enforce blockades of basic supplies such as food, medicine and MONEY. This strangles their economy and starves their people. Israel was supposed to lift the blockade as part of the cease fire conditions. They have had since June to do this and by the time the cease fire expired on December 19th, they had not done so and had no intention of doing so. THAT is why the cease fire did not hold. Surprise, surprise. More lies and broken promises from Israel, only these particular lies are creating deadly and fatal conditions for the entire population in Gaza. Can you say genocide? It's a war of attrition at the hands of Israel and sanctioned by the United States.

They do not hide behind women and children. The population in Gaza supports the resistance to the blockade, since they and their children are the ones who are being slowly starved to death. That's why they elected Hamas. An occupied population which has been invaded repeatedly, blockaded, has the highest unemployment rate in the world (Gaza at 45%), has no medical supplies and is on the verge of starvation tend to arm themselves and band together against their common enemy. It's human nature to do so. This is not about anything more than simple survival for them.
Yeah, and Isreal took its own out of Gaza, yet
nm
Israel felt pulling out of Gaza was okay. sm
Oh, okay, that explains all those wailing Jews being forcefully removed from their homes of 30 plus years.  Glad you cleared that up.  Your statement is ridiculous.  But then, they all are.  Gosh, your lying comment is getting really old.   Does anyone else think so?
You might want to check out the thread about Gaza before gloating about that. nm

Ahem. The West Bank is not theirs. Neither is Gaza.
So just how does that justify illegal settlements and settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank?
'trying to take Gaza from Israel is wrong?'
In what century are you living? It was already given to the Palestinians by the Israelis. The area is recognized internationally as part of the Palestinian territories.
What happened in 1948, when the Israelis took Palestine from the Palestinians?
The name "Palestine" comes, via Greek and Latin, from the Philistines; see History of Palestine.

The Palestinians were in Palestine, called the Philistines, BEFORE the Israelis came along from Egypt!

If I were you I would exchange the Bible for a history book and brush up on your history. Read also about the 1957 war!

Also: Give me 1 example, only ONE that what is written in the Bible is true!

If Netanyahu continues to bomb Gaza,
then Obama has to do some action, words are not enough anymore regarding this conflict.
Most probably Obama, as he is a wise guy, he will curtail US' financial and weapon support to Israel.

Obama will not start the bombing and he will not torture.

Israel rams humanitarian aid boat destined for Gaza

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20081230/twl-israeli-patrol-boat-collides-with-ai-3cd7efd_2.html

Bloody butchers block 3 tons of medical supplies being transported to Gaza to help prevent severely injured Palestinians from becoming fatalities due to lack of medical supplies resulting from ongoing Israeli blockade of Israel.  People who could be stabilized with provisions as basic as electrolytes, antibiotics, bandages, etc are being turned away from hospitals and left to die in the street.  Dead bodies are being returned to the family to be taken home due to inability to prepare them for burial.   Wonder how many Hamas were hiding out on that boat?  Yesiree, our tax dollars are hard at work once again.

Condi lies through her teeth in her 1-minute Gaza statement.

"Hamas has held the people of Gaza hostage "ever since their illegal coup" against the forces of (Palestinian Authority) President Mahmoud Abbas."  In the AP report, they attempted to scour this lie by stating that Rice pinned the blame for the violence on Hamas, the Islamist Resitance Movement that "seized power" in Gaza in June 2007 after "ousting" the US-backed Palestinian Authority of Mahmud Abbas.  Neither statement even remotely resembles the truth.

Hamas won control of 28 municipalities in both the West Bank and Gaza in the municipal elections of 2005, including control in the West Bank's largest cities (Nablus, Jenin, Ramallah and East Jerusalem).   They achieved a stunning victory in the legislative elections in 2006,  which yielded a yielded a 78% voter turnout.  Hamas won 76 out of 132 seats on the Legislative Council.  Factoring in the 4 seats won by independents who support Hamas, they seized 80 seats, giving them control of 60.6% of the council.  In other words, they did BETTER than the US democrats in 2008.

Hamas benefited in the election from the fractures in the secular, US-backed (kiss of death) Fatah party of Mahmoud Abbas.  Fierce in-fighting between Hamas and Fatah factions erupted in the election aftermath.  Israel and the US (along with Egypt) immediately tried to undermine Hamas and force them from power, even going so far as to arm and train Fatah for a war with Hamas!  They hatched a plot that involved smuggling US arms for Fatah strongholds in Gaza through a suddenly porous Egyptian border with Israel's blessing.

As with countless other ill-advised US attempts to rearrange the political landscape in the Middle East, this stunt backfired all over the place.  When this engineered conflict erupted later in the summer, Fatah and Hamas officers and leaders (including Abbas) were targeted by their respective militia's opponents.  Things got really nasty and Abbas HIMSELF dissolved the Palestinian-Hamas unity government, declared a state of emergency, tried to dismiss the prime minister and declared himself ruler of Gaza by presidential decree.  Can you say US-backed coup?  Of course, this went over like a lead balloon with the newly elected Hamas leadership.

Ultimately, this led to the current division of government between Gaza (Hamas) and the West Bank (Palestinian National Authority), who the US and EU normalized relations with and began sending direct aid.  Abbas relocated to the West Bank and is still the President of the Palestinian National Authority.  In the meantime, he has found it increasingly more difficult to sustain the more moderate status quo support of US-brokered peace initiatives with Israel in view of the absence of such during Bush's second term.  He has announced he will not run for office again at the end of his current term.  In May 2008, he stated he would resign if Condi's impotent so-called peace talks did not produce results within 6 months.  In July, he spoke not only of resigning, but also of dismantling the Palestinian Authority all together.

As a footnote, Gaza is held hostage by Israel occupation of Palestine and its 18-month blockade, which Condi failed to mention in her statement this morning, not by their democratically elected representatives.

End of the year 2008 a total of 1.073 Palestinians were killed in Gaza and over 4,000 injured.
It is also a historical fact that the Palestinians were the FIRST to populate the Holy Land and that the Palestininas were driven from Palestine 1948, and again in the 1967 war Arab land went to Israel.

In the year 1993 the Palestinians concentrated in the 'Gaza Strip', this is a tiny, tiny land strip where 1.5 million Palestinians are living under horrible circumstances and in fear of Israeli attacks.

November 2008 Israel invaded Gaza and massacred Palestinians living there and the whole world condemned this act.

This is history!
Just one little tiny point
Thing I hate about politics #5823423.

Saying that someone would do something "if" something. For example, "the dems would be all over it if McCain went to a questionable church."

How could you POSSIBLY know that? Moreover, why, then, have they not gone after Palin's church? I have no qualms with people being able to worship the way they see fit, but the beliefs of a Pentecostal, Armageddon-worshiping, witch-hunting pastor and congregation should have been beautiful fodder for the "dems" if they wanted to be "all over it."

But they weren't. Why? Because, frankly, the democratic campaign is actually taking the high road, regardless of whether or not you want to believe it.

And as much as everyone wants to run around screaming AYERS in a full theater, McCain WAS A PART OF THE KEATING FIVE, which did the country WAY more harm than Barack sitting on a an educational board with Ayers.

Your insults persist, is your mind so tiny that you

..can't seem to debate or discuss?  So you pile on more bashing and insults?  You must be a very unpleasant person.

And by the way, I am an athlete and a weightlifter and my boyfriend says that with my mouth I don't need the muscle behind it.  I am definitely not a sissy.  Most of my liberal friends are athletes also and are definitely not sissies and we're not a bunch of fatsos either.   As for AG stating that it must "stink to be" us, well she's wrong.  It's actually really great!  Many of the libs in the blue states are among the most educated, best paid, longest-living and healthiest and SLIMMEST folks, we're likely to stay married and we generally smoke less.  So AG, you got it wrong about it stinking to be us -- kind of an unworldly and naive and cruel comment, I'd say.

Tiny minds = easily boggled...nm

Thus speaketh the tiny mind committee.
Are you retarded or just immature?

Her'es a buntch of othur typeoes you kin crect to get her rockx off.

You're a troll. Go away.
Why on earth? Small person, tiny brain, no power,

A better idea. SM
Make everyone register as many other sites do.  That way, you have to keep the sam identity.  As far as the rest, both sides are equally at fault.  Using the "They" term and the "You" term are shallow.  I doubt the board is under new management.  You allegation that posters got special treatment is another delusion.  But since you won't be responding to me, I guess I don't need to let that bother me.
You have know idea who or what *they* are. sm
I would not make such statements about something you know nothing about. You read a story, it said what you believed and you ran with it.  My gosh, how do you ever learn anything?   Do you think I judge all liberals by these people?  Freepers are large contributors to charities.  They have a race on now to get together donations for Katrina victims. They are huge supporters of the military.  I have been going to their site for years and I have never seen anyone threaten to kill anyone. But it's something you want to believe and so you will. It's too darn bad.  There are liberals who post there, too.  But, of course, you don't know that.
First of all, you have no idea what I would do
Clinton wasn't my favorite president but I have never hated him with the vitriol that you on the left have hated Bush.

As far as Lurker's thoughts about Bush they are assertions and not proven fact and I for one think they are hogwash--not to mention grossly, grossly over exaggerated.

Is that enough of an answer for you? Probably not...nothing is ever enough for you all.
I think I get where you get this idea
It's because all the baseless charges against Bush have truly been baseless. Let's talk about the void-of-actual-fact USA Today article about the so-called NSA release of private information. That has pretty much been debunked and exposed as yet another attempt to cast doubt on Bush. There are numerous other examples, and let's not forget *Rathergate*

Just because liberal journalists have a vendetta for this president and aren't smart enough to get anymore than forged documents to back up their reports does not mean the press has given the president a free pass. They just suck as journalists. That's not Bush's fault.
You have no idea.

but you have illustrated many points made about you here very well.  That isn't bashing, my dear, it's called truth.

Now that's an idea!!!
I'm all for that! She seems to be a real go-getter!!
I have no idea.

A friend of mine has been totally hot to trot on this story & has kept sending me stuff about it.  I haven't for obvious reasons.

I was reluctant to even post that on this board.  It's become so obnoxious here that I may as well be on one of the left-wing sites.

I've found a much more fun place to chat. Lots of conservatives and Libertarians, and much more interesting than this jazz over here.

I have no idea.........
Guess I was raised by *gasp* liberals............frankly, no-bah-dee's bidness, but it is disheartening to see gay couples who love each other who cannot make end-of-life decisions for each other or any of the other "benefits" that heterosexual couples take for granted.
Hey I have an idea for
Since he is going to make all these changes and what not, instead of starting new government programs, why doesn't he just take all the money he is getting for his campaigns and help out people who are losing their homes, jobs, etc? Kind of a "put your money where your mouth is" approach? Then he would really be "different" from other politicians and I bet anyone he helped or saw him helping others would vote for him and he wouldn't have to waste time campaigning and making ads...

Just a thought :-D
not a bad idea.
x
I'm not against the idea
of helping people who are helping themselves... regarding helping people with their loans because in turn it will help out the economy... this just seems to be the best suggestion I've heard so far but then again, I've not heard many. I will say this... I personally know someone who has multiple mortgages out on their home, in order to buy new vehicles, etc. not one cent put back into their home. Now I agree that people like that should not be helped, on the other hand, I also find it disgusting that anyone would lend them that money to begin with.
i had NO idea that was said
..
Here is an idea

Because there is a lot of voter fraud (no matter what side you believe there is fraud on) do you think a voting system like this would work and if not why.

First, you do away with electronic voting.  Everything is paper ballots.

You have a regular sheet of paper divided in half (top and bottom).  At the top you have the name of one candidate with the word democrat or republican underneath the name (all in huge letters for those who have a hard time reading), followed by a picture of him/her (for those who can only recognize the candidate by their photo), followed by a big huge box.  Same for the other candidate on the bottom of the paper.  The big huge box is for people to put an X, checkmark or scribble inside the box.

Then, before you vote you will be asked by the people at the voting booths if you understand how to vote, if not they explain that you can x, check or scribble inside the box next to the candidate you want to win.  Each polling place gets only the exact number of ballots (pieces of paper) as there are people registered.  Also well ahead of time you tell people if they need to register to vote they need to do so ahead of time at the DMV and nowhere else (to avoid fraud).  If they wait and don't register they will not be qualified to vote and will have to wait til next election and that's just tough because they know the rules ahead of time.

At the end of the night after the polls close there is a large group of people from both sides, they open up the boxes, take out the ballots and count them and on a huge blackboard tally up the votes.  There are a huge number of people from both sides watching, so there is no chance of fraud.  At the end of counting their tally is then sent into the main headquarters, again with a lot of people watching/listening from both sides so there is no chance of fraud.

I've just often wondered that seeing as there is so much voter fraud and a lot of it with computers (college kids are able to hack into the system), why don't we go with paper ballots (and nothing with little hanging chads).  This is a huge box so you know right away who they voted for.

What do you think?  I can't figure out why there is voter fraud at each election and it never gets fixed.  Also, would you be upset it you had to wait until 11/5 to find out the true winner of an election.

Also, I think if a county or state is found guilty of voter fraud all their votes should be tossed out, no matter whether it is on the republicans side or democrats.  Rules should be noted ahead of time that if you are caught of voter fraud you will be treated like the children you act like and your privilage will be taken away and if there are any angry citizens they need to take it up with the people in charge of the voting system in their county.  This should be a law and take effect that way people know way ahead of time the consequences of fraud or any mis-doings and there will be no option to appeal.  You knew ahead of time and you pay the consequences if guilty.

Just frustrated with voter fraud every single election and there just has to be a way to put a stop to it.  Your thoughts?

I had no idea
what the heck?  I just went to that website.  Is this just one wierdo's website who thinks that he is the messiah?  Or are you saying to me that there are real people out there, ordinary, everyday people, who actually believe that he is sent from God?  Because I watch the news all day long, was gonna vote for O, and I have never, ever seen anything like this here.
You have no idea what you are asking for
part of me hopes Obama wins just so you all can see him for what he really is.

If he wins there will be no more balance of power. We will have a liberal congress with a liberal president who elects liberal judges. But I guess that's what you want, huh? Lets forget family values, moral ways of life. If it's inconvenient, kill it. If you want to marry your dog, go ahead. Don't want to work? We'll take care of you.

I have no idea
I have only voted once before when I was in the military and I did it by absentee ballot because I was overseas.  So, who knows?  I just left it in God's hands.  But the above poster stated that it shouldnt matter.  I hope she is right!
That is when the idea was first put out by the guy....
and may not even have been what the original poster was talking about. The idea was first put out there in 2000. If is still on the net, so the "idea" is still out there. I had no idea any such thing ever existed. That is why I posted it. The original poster might not have been referring to that particular website. Sorry for confusion.
Thanks, BWT... This gives me a idea sm
of what he said. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
a really bad idea!
nm
You have NO idea.

Where do you get the idea
that foreign made is better value?  My husband drives a 1996 Ford F150.  It just turned over 200,000 miles and has never had a problem.  Our friends have a 1994 Dodge Ram that just turned 300,000 and they just put a new trany in it.  Another friend has a 1994 Ford F150 that has over 300,000 on it...never any major repairs.  These are all farm trucks that pull heavy LOADED trailers all the time.  So what's wrong with that value for American made?  Oh yeah, the propaganda tells us that foreign cars are better and less expensive.  They are NOT.
My idea is this........
if you want change don't expect it to come from more of the same.  My definition is simply that I would like to see people appointed who have honesty, integrity and true concern for the American citizens and those with COMMON SENSE if there is such a thing.  I think we've had just about enough "experience" in Washington D.C.  They do have the Constitution to guide them, something the "experience" is doing it's dead level best to destroy.  As for who these inexperienced people might be, I don't have a clue.  I wouldn't mind vetting them myself.  For starters I might suggest Governor Mike Beebe from the Great State of Arkansas.
Is this your idea...s/m
of

SATURDAY NIGHT

entertainment.

You have my condolences.
Can you not afford something better than that?
Oh, yes, now I remembered you are a 'starving MT.
Now there's a novel idea!
Part of the problem we're in as a nation, I believe, is because people can't get past their "liberal/conservative" viewpoint to think for themselves.  I also believe the crooks (on both sides) are counting on such sheep in their base to allow them to carry out their crookedness.
The US's idea of a just war? (sm)

The idea
that all news channels are biased is in itself based on a Fox news talking point so her premise is flawed to begin with.  I think rather than an actual question she is disguising a propaganda point in the form of a question.  There seem to be about 4 or 5 that are repeated here over and over endlessly.  Not much opinion here to see just same talking points repeated over and over.
Do you have any idea how

much murder goes along with some of these illegal aliens.....the drugs....the kidnapping, etc.  Arizona alone had 359 kidnappings in ONE year due to illegals and the drug cartel in Mexico.....are you friggin kidding me!!!!!

Not only that but they are taking away jobs from Americans and tax payers are paying their way.  You have no problem with this?

You have no idea.........
Did anyone see that special on TV about the people of Appalachia? They are so poor, you, in your nice warm house with cable TV and plenty to eat can't even comprehend. They have no fluoridated water, so they have no teeth. They have no "real" school system, so they are uneducated. Their diet is so unsubstantial because what LITTLE they get in food stamps doesn't cover the entire month. They dress in rags, they have no teeth, no car and no money - AND to top it off - there are no jobs (not that they would be hired anyway). You have absolutely NO CLUE how desperately poor a LOT of people in this country is. You tell me how those people can escape the poverty they were born into in order to pull themselves up by their bootstraps? The stereotyping BS I read on this board shows some to be more ignorant than the uneducated poor I am talking about.
How about this idea?
How about everyone using the same name so we can have a real idea of where everyone stands and who we are responding to.  JTBB gets slammed often, but that's because she doesn't hide and we know where she stands.  She hasn't flip flopped on her views either.   I'm guilty of hiding too, so from now on I'll be Paper Towel and soak it in, suck it up and get slammed when appropriate.  Who is with me?
What's Your Idea?

Relative to the political and social issues which are most important to you, that you wish could be singled out and fixed. The rules are you can only phrase it in the positive, and can only list one idea at a time. Make it as simple as you want--I'd say we should not criticize others for their ideas on this thread, but instead let's just hear from us regular folks on all sides.

My idea started back with the mortgage crisis and the bank bailouts. I think instead of the government giving the money over to help the banks cover for the huge mortgage crisis and all those unpaid loans/foreclosures, they should have given the money to the mortgagees in crisis, in the form of delays/extensions, lower interest/lower payments.

Then many people could have continued to pay their mortgages and the banks would get there money, it just would take a little longer so their profits would be lower, but the bottom wouldn't be falling out. And homeowners in trouble could at least be still responsible for their debt, and have some asset left ten years from now instead of having to walk away.
