Tolerance is NOT what they're being taught......

Posted By: sm on 2009-05-22
In Reply to: They aren't pushing a "gay agenda"...(sm) - Just the big bad

What they are doing is pushing crap down the throats of little children, undermining what their parents are teaching them at home. My children were not taught homosexuality is "okay" but neither were they taught to hate others just because they live a lifestyle that is different. There is a huge difference. Public education is paid for by the "taxpayers", not the federal govt, who is allowing this garbage in the first place. Obviously the federal govt forgot where they get their money from as well!!

If tolerance is your ONLY argument, they why aren't they teaching tolerance of the Bible, prolife, etc. THe list could go on and on. We all know what is going on here..... PUSHING A GAY AGENDA in a public school.

Children are sent to school to learn knowledge skills, not how John and Matt like to live together, which in case you don't get it, is morality. The last place I want my children learning morality is at school. They should be taught that at home in the first place. They see enough garbage in school as it is.

LOL My dad taught me to
shoot with a 12-gauge shotgun that had belonged to his dad.  That dadgone thing would kick so hard it's a wonder I didn't shoot myself!  Went on to learn to shoot rifles and handguns.  I don't hunt either but let's just say it wouldn't be a good idea to stand where I'm fixin' to shoot. LOL
First of all...who taught you how to
spell potato?  Second of all....even if we let N. Korea be...there is no stopping them from nuking us if they really want to.  You cannot reason with these people.  Give em an inch, they take a mile.  Being nice to them and bending to their threats won't make them like us any more.  It will show weakness and they will continue to make threats to get what they want.  The only time bullies stop is when someone is big enough to stand up to them.
I do not agree about what we were taught...

Just my opinion and FYI....

I do not agree with what you said *all jews are taught that the story of Job is a play and did not really happen* (or words to that effect).  I am Jewish and had an orthodox father and I also had 8 years of formal studies on Saturdays and then Sundays, and in my Holy Scriptures from 1917 which I just checked (Old Testament) on page 924 is the story of Job, and we, where I come from, were never taught that the story of Job was not true.

Guess we were all taught somewhat different....all of us, everywhere...it's what makes the world go round actually.

Me too, GP......my dad taught me to shoot...
when the rifle recoil would still knock me on my little rear. I learned real quick to spread stance...lol. I was not and still am not a hunter...though my best friend is. To each his/her own...my brother and dad hunted. I can, however, defend myself and my property. And will...unless your guy is elected. I look for them to want to change gun laws. I know what he SAYS about it...I just don't believe him. :)
Excuse me but I was taught
abstinence only in school and if I would have had a daughter, I would never have allowed her on birth control pills, etc. because of the risk of blood clots, heart attacks, and it being almost a consent to have sex before marriage. I see nothing wrong with teaching abstinence only.
I was only taught to put my hand over my heart for
.
I always remember what my mom and dad taught me growing up
Treat others how you want to be treated. Don't call people names if you wouldn't want to be called names. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you don't like what is being said (this pertained more to racial slurs in public when they would look at me and call me a name) keep walking and soon you will not hear them talk anymore.

Hope the board will now come back to what it is meant for. You have a good night and don't let people get to you. You are a valuable person with valuable ideas and thoughts and that's what makes our country a wonderful place.
Shouldn't someone who taught school

for 20 years know it's 'twice as well to be thought half as good"?  And besides, that slogan was stolen from the feminist movement.  A woman has to work twice as hard and do twice as well to be thought half as good as a man."

No points for originality.  Minus 1 point for grammar.

children were being taught to accept the
lifestyle of homosexuals in their sex education classes, is that right? Might we assume that is why you don't teach them your views on this issue at home? Please explain the great truth you found in JTBB's post to us.
Your mamma taught you no manners. Nice to have
nm
Grandma taught me that only BORING people
nm
Maybe because the Christians taught the Muslims how to be ruthless...
murderers during the Crusades? Good enough reason for me.
Rush Limbaugh taught 'em how!
Desperate to say something bad, even if they have to fake the film to do it!  Because they know their loyal viewers are such sheep they'll believe anything they see on their show as gospel - even if it is debunked later!
There is no tolerance
.
tolerance

I have my own set of beliefs. I have studied various religions. I am familiar with the Bible. I did not solict your advice on what I should or should not believe. I spoke about my hope for the future of our country with the strong candidates running for our next president.  Please step off. What you think you know about all liberals is neither here nor there to me. I am here to discuss politics with liberals. How many times do I need to explain this? Now take your tamborine and move on,

Tolerance is
respectfully disagreeing with another person, not accepting everything a person believes.

I'm so tired of being told that I am intolerant. If you knew the truth about something and someone else was spreading lies, you would correct them. Christians know the Truth and when a false religion tries to spread lies that will ultimately condemn people to h.e.l.l. they do everything they can to combat that.

I've said this before: If you were about to walk out in front of a bus you would want me to stop you. I would be wrong for not at least trying to stop you. Well, you're about to get hit with the proverbial bus!
What we were taught though was to SING the Star Spangled Banner...sm
Hand over the heart and sing the words. It amazes me that not everyone does that, but that is what I was taught. Most people do not even know the words.
Zero tolerance for liars
Imagine how it would change the face of politics today if Republicans suddenly had TRUE "zero tolerance" for lying, cheating, stealing, vote fraud, false front groups, media shills, corporate malfeasance, crony capitalism, torture of innocents, war profiteering, oppressive foreign regimes and presidential dissembling.

But nah...instead they seem to have very high tolerance levels for all of the above - hence the claim to "zero tolerance", using their favorite trick of naming a thing the exact opposite of what it really is.

So much for the tolerance of the left. nm

Fundamentalists have no tolerance for anyone but themselves.
And for that reason, should not be running our country. They are simply self-serving right now saying they are doing it for the good of everyone else is a diseased excuse.

If their agenda was righteous they would not have to hide it and pretend it's something else in order to sneak their way into positions of authority. The truth is they know that their values and agendas would not be supported by the vast majority of Americans - so they cheat, scheme, and plot to put one over on us.

Is this the behavior of a moral group who sincerely believe in their gentle Jesus and his teachings? I don't think so.

I think you should take your exclusive agenda back where it belongs - into your churches and homes, and let everyone else keep their religions in their own way. THAT would be the tolerance you seem to value so much, but actually don't seem to understand in the least.
tolerance...........oh brother!!!
Listen, I don't give a rat's butt about all this political PC garbage. Muslim countries hate us..... plain and simple. They so-called "religion" teaches hatred, not love, not tolerance, but pure hatred!! What about that don't you get?

After 9/11 everyone got to PC about profiling. We're worried about profiling? H@ll with that.....I saw profile them to death. If I happen to be on a plane, you better believe I, just like everyone else, was watching them like a hawk. You can be PC about everything if you want, but this is my country, not the Muslims. They have a country. They do not teach tolerance of ANYONE but themselves.

This has nothing to do with intolerance of those different than me. What an idiotic statement. I live in a community with people different than me in so many ways, it would take a while but one thing they all agree on.....they love this country more than they care about being PC. I posted a few days ago about a Muslim couple in our neighborhood. And, they said they would go back to their country any day if they felt safe. They feel no allegiance to this country. They will tell you they do not agree with bin Laden's hatred, but they do admit their sons are taught the Q'ran, which does not teach love of anyone but other Muslims. They fear their daughters could be stoned or raped and they know no one there will protect them. They take comlpete advantage of our schools to educate their children, but there is no allegiance to this country. You need to get off your PC pot because as you can see, that'll get us nowhere real fast!!!

Tolerance, what a joke. Why don't we just tolerate them coming on over here and taking another 9/11 blow at us? Will that be enough tolerance for ya?
Actually, no I don't believe in one-sided tolerance...sm
This particular sign could have easily been displayed away from the creche, I feel, and it wouldn't have bothered me the least to see it.

You see, I also celebrate Winter Solstice, and the earth and the animals.

However, this particular sign seemed to be placed next to the creche to invoke upset from those who celebrate Christ's life and birth.

I like to imagine that perhaps baby Jesus kicked the sign to the ditch myself. He could have if he wanted to.
So, you only believe in one-sided tolerance? (sm)
As in the ditch was well deserved?
Thank you for your fairness and tolerance......nm
nm
Far left tolerance....(sm)

Ummm, actually we have shown tolerance until we are blue in the face.  Let's see, we have tolerated an unjust war (oops, make that 2 wars) for how long?  We have tolerated having *in god we trust* on money, a church on every corner, a preacher on most channels, religious signs all over the place, a republican president who doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground, ......  the list is actually quite extensive.  However, when it comes to something as simple as expecting equal rights that are supposed to be guaranteed by the constitution, we get slammed for just bringing it up.  If an athiest sign is put up, it's all over the news (makes for good ratings, as Bill-O will attest to).  What isn't all over the news is the daily discrimination dished out by the opposition.

Why don't I just answer my own question from below since noone else seems to be willing to give it a try.  People who are against gay marriage say they are sacrificing.  The only thing I see as them having to sacrifice is the joy they get from being able to hold a minority under thier collective thumbs.

Abortion - tolerance?

I ask this in the politest way possible and with all due respect.  I felt the need to say this after reading the posts below.

Is it possible to be a little more sensitive to those who have undergone an abortion for whatever reason and to be careful on the words being chosen, such as "murder." I'm sure there are some reading these posts who have had an abortion. It can be a very traumatizing thing to go through, which you cannot take back. There are some of us who have become pregnant with very deformed babies that would be extremely difficult to raise, including the possibility of not surviving after birth, where the choice to abort was difficult but a personal decision. I'm not saying it's the right choice.  I'm just saying sometimes a woman feels there is no other.

I say this from experience because I had to make that choice, and when I read that people think I'm a murderer and killed my baby, it makes it that much more hard to bear because I will always, always regret it.  I know I'm forgiven, but sometimes it's still hard to think---what if.

Just please be sensitive with the words you choose, and know there are those of us out here who have made this choice and regret it and have to live with it for the rest of our lives.

The key word is tolerance....(sm)

not acceptance.  I'm not advocating that everyone should accept homosexuality.  To accept it would be to agree with it, which would obviously conflict with the personal interests of some.  What I am advocating is tolerance.  That would include restraining one's self from attacking verbally or physically simply on the basis of sexual orientation.

I think the point of the penguin story is to show that homosexuals are normal people who have feelings, goals, interests, families, etc. ---  the moral:  they may be homosexuals, but they are still people, no better and no worse than you or me.

Your tolerance is only for those in agreement.nm
nm
Good point. I see no problem with both points of view being taught...
and letting indivdiuals decide. Isn't that what America is about?
Tolerance applies except to the Christian right
then the gloves are off. Christians are not to be tolerated unless they are willing to *embrace* not just *tolerate* other views and/or lifestyles.
So much for tolerance of an opposing viewpoint....
talk the talk, don't walk the walk. Don't understand it, never will. Not trying to educate anyone; however, I am learning a good deal about liberals...and the differences among them. Very interesting indeed.

Have a good day....ignore away. :)
Yeah, and you show SUCH Tolerance, don't you?
Look, the Constitution of these United States says that the government shall have no part in establishing a religion, but it also will not prohibit the free exercise thereof. It is a constitutional right. So far, gay marriage is NOT. YOu want tolerance for gay marriage, fine. Show a little tolerance and less bullsh*t yourself, and someone might actually care about your point of view. :-)
Well, there's a healthy dose of liberal tolerance for ya
You know your example was stupid...quoting porn stars. I think you're scraping the bottom of the barrell, and I can tell I hit a nerve..
Just one more example of that TOLERANCE liberals claim to disply...
they are very very tolerant, as long as everyone agrees with them. At least I am openly judgemental.
Oh, I can beat that. A picture of liberal tolerance and love for the troops. SM

You're entitled to your opinion. I guess it depends on what side of the spectrum you're on.nm

We're not defending Bush we're pointing out the obvious
All you see in your view is Bush, Bush, Bush. Nobody else exists. You have yet to answer any of the questions I posed yesterday. We're not the one obsessing about Bush. I'm sure you'll counter that with I don't owe you any answers! It's really telling that for five or six days this board was mute about the Israel/Lebanon situation. You were too busy posting trash news about Bush like nothing was even happening, but I know that the left has wait for its talking points. You all cannot formulate opinions on your own. You have boilerplates ready to go though. *This is Bush's fault because _____________ but you have to wait on Howard Dean, Bill Clinton, etc. etc. to fill in the blanks for you. It's not just a phenomenon here but with all the left. You can count on at least two days of silence when something unforseen breaks out in the world, because they have to retreat to their bunkers to get their talking points straight, but it will always start with *This is Bush's fault because....
Hey, if they're smoking cigs, they're paying for SCHIP.
xx
They're too lazy to show patriotism......they're waiting
xx
So you're not racist but you're most definitely SEXIST and AGEIST!!!
"Someone more in our age group..."

"She should be taking care of her family."

Your true colors are showing, and they're truly ugly.
Just because they're LOSING doesn't mean they're VICTIMS.
What is it with people these days? You think that just because Hamas is getting its fanny handed to it that that magically makes them victims, and we should all weep and throw cash at them?

From the dawn of time, lesser civilizations have fallen to stronger ones.

It's why the human species survived and the neanderthals didn't.

It's why Rome conquered the Celts.

It's why the Barbarians conquered the Western Roman Empire.

It's why the British conquered the American Indians.

It's why the Spanish conquered the Aztecs.

It's why the Muslims conquered Israel the first time. But, since their societal progres seems to have permanently parked in the Stone Age, now Israel is conquering them right back.

Deal with it.
You're right. They're simply not worthy of a reply.

They're not tax breaks....they're tax credits
xx
I'm snotty, you're rude...we're even....
My dearrrr....not everyone in this country pays taxes. So you are wrong there. Obama said "spread the wealth." From his own mouth. The interview in Canada...economic parity and redistribution. Words from HIS mouth. If you believed those words from his mouth as much as you believed other words from his mouth, you would know he is a socialist. Selective memory is a wonderful thing ain't it??
You're right. They're all wack-jobs... nothing
so they try to make themselves feel important by standing around on street corners with their posters and their dollies.

Most of them are just buffoons, good for nothing other than being laughed at by the rest of us. But the ones that totally lose all reason, and go so far as to shoot people (in a church of all places...) is pretty off the deep end.
You're a liar. GT didn't curse. You're a filthy liar, but you are a gift from God.
God sent you here to as a constant reminder of the kind of person I DON'T want to be and if I ever have a bad day when I feel temporarily stupid, all I have to do is read your posts, and I realize there are those out there who are much worse off than I am and for them it's not temporary.
They're doing to this board what they're trying to do

to the whole country.  They're trying to take it over.  They want to control which God you believe in, who you love and what you do with your body, be it regarding life or regarding death.  If you don't voluntarily agree to turn your free will over to their control, they will hunt you down and nag you to death (since they can't do anything more violent on a message board).  It's obvious they are sick, sick people and need major help.

But they ARE like watching a car wreck and are sometimes hard to ignore.

I've thought about it, and for me personally, the very best thing to do is ignore them and for 2 reasons:

1.  Ignoring them and not reading their posts makes my visit on this board much more pleasant.  I already know I'm not missing anything because there isn't one post on this entire board written by them that has contributed anything of value or intelligence.

2.  If we all refuse to read and respond to their posts, they might give up and go find another board to terrorize.  I doubt that, though, because they've taken over this board and simply don't have the CLASS to leave.  They take pride in their bully on the playground mentality and are proud of their ignorant behavior.  They will probably just continue to pat themselves on their backs on this board.  The only thing that might startle them and cause them to stop is that the NUMBER of posts on the Liberal board are starting to increase heavily as a direct result of their posting.  In the past, they've used the Liberal board's lower numbers to trash us for not being as interesting, when, in fact, the CON board must be pretty boring if they are always choosing to be HERE instead.

Like I said, I've decided that I'd like my visits here to be pleasant, so I'm just going to stop subjecting myself to their cesspools of attacks.  They've proven their posts aren't worth wasting time reading, so I'm just going to stop and will feel much better as a result of stopping.

Your not you're. I hope you're not an MT. nm
.
They're children, though. They're not
adults.  Mom and Dad need to know these things even if only to possibly prevent problems later.
You're welcome.

If I find anything, I'll be sure to post it, but I doubt he's going to be saying much.  I think he understandably wants to distance himself as far away from this administration as he can.

I wish he would run for President.  I'd very proudly vote for him in a heartbeat!  I'd finally be able to vote for the best candidate instead of the least worst one.

I agree with you, and I admire and respect him very much.

So I take it you're on your
so you don't mind your grandchildren paying their fair share, right?

Bush Tax Cuts = Tax Shifts
UFE Report: Tax Burden Shifting off Wealthy onto Everyone Else

$197 Billion in Tax Cuts to Top 1% of US Taxpayers as Big as States’ Budget Shortfalls of $200 Billion

BOSTON — A new report, entitled “Shifty Tax Cuts: How They Move the Tax Burden off the Rich and onto Everyone Else,” from United for a Fair Economy (UFE) indicates that between 2002 and 2004, the Bush tax cuts to the top 1% of US income earners redirected billions of dollars in revenue that could have eliminated virtually all of the budget shortfalls in the states.

“Congress had the option to send aid to the states to prevent $200 billion worth of service cuts and regressive tax increases,” said Chris Hartman, UFE’s research director. “Instead, they gave tax breaks totaling roughly the same amount to multi-millionaires and the rest of the top 1%.”

The report identifies five main areas of shifting tax burden:

FEDERAL TO STATE — a 15% shift in tax burden between 2000 and 2003

PROGRESSIVE TO REGRESSIVE — at the federal level, a 17% decline in the share of revenue from progressive taxes and a 135% increase in the share of revenue from regressive taxes since 1962

WEALTH TO WORK — A tax cut on unearned income — such as inheritance or investment — of between 31% and 79%, but a tax hike on work income of 25% since 1980

CORPORATIONS TO INDIVIDUALS — a 67% drop in the share of federal revenues contributed by corporations and a 17% rise in individuals’ share

CURRENT TAXPAYERS TO FUTURE GENERATIONS — record deficits that shift the tax burden to our children and grandchildren

“When President Bush and Congress trumpet, ‘Here’s a tax cut', we say, ‘Taxpayer beware!’ said Chuck Collins, United for a Fair Economy co-founder. “Unless you are super-rich, it’s a tax SHIFT, not a cut. Non-wealthy taxpayers will pay for these tax cuts with increased state and local taxes or cuts in public services.”

“Between 2002 and 2004, a full $197 billion in new tax breaks went to the top 1% of American taxpayers,” Hartman commented. “This is money that has disappeared into the pockets of the very wealthy, making it unavailable to solve ongoing budget crises at the state and local levels.”

“I got a rebate check last summer for $400,” said Collins. “Then my eight-year-old’s public school asked me to contribute money to replace worn-out chairs for the students. At the same time, I found out they laid off the librarian because of budget cuts. What good is a $400 tax cut when parents have to cough up additional money for chairs and books or else see their children go without?”

The report concludes that the total federal, state and local tax burden has become increasingly the responsibility of middle-and low-income families in recent decades, and that revenues being generated by taxes are not sufficient to pay for existing public services. Work in particular is being taxed at a higher rate than investment. “I do a lot of work in predominantly Latino areas of Boston,” said UFE Education Specialist Gloribell Mota. “Residents there are the working poor — they have jobs and pay taxes — yet are getting pennies in tax cuts and seeing health care services they depend on slashed.”

“The Bush administration has followed a strategy of starving public services by pulling tax money away from education and housing and giving it away to multi-millionaires,” said Karen Kraut, UFE’s State Tax Partnership director. “States are suffering as a result, and people are going without essential services in order to fund the lifestyles of the rich.”

The report calls for tax reforms to improve the fairness of tax distribution and ensure adequate revenues. Concerned Americans are urged to pass resolutions in their cities and towns to stop the tax cuts and restore local services that have been affected, to call and write their congressional representatives to take action to stop the cuts, and to sign the Tax Fairness Pledge at www.ResponsibleWealth.org/taxpledge.

The co-authors of the report are Chuck Collins, UFE Co-founder; Chris Hartman, UFE Research Director; Karen Kraut, Director of UFE’s State Tax Partnerships; and Gloribell Mota, UFE Education Specialist.
