Why I think Palin was picked as VP running mate - sm

Posted By: My take on all this is --- on 2009-01-28
In Reply to: Sarah is still campaigning...(sm) - Just the big bad

I have this feeling that somewhere near the end of this campaign, McCain had second thoughts. I think he changed his mind about wanting to try to lead this mess of a country for the next 4 years. He's no spring chicken. I think Palin was plucked from practically out of nowhere to become his running mate because she was such a joke, so inept and incpable of handling the job of being a US vice-pres., that he knew he would lose, but didn't have to stop running and be viewed as a quitter.

Any thoughts on that?

Who is Palin's pick for running mate again?

Be careful what you wish for -

there are so many scenarios how this could play out.  I think republicans (the men) need to watch their backs with this person.  they are infatuated right now but this person after all is a self-described pitbull (with lipstick).

I heard someone call this play by the republicans a 'hail mary' like in football, but no matter which party you side with, it was very worrisome watching that little baby be passed around like a football throughout the convention last night...it almost made me sick.

One reason is because Sarah Palin's his running mate
x
Yes....she is his running mate.
His VP.....she is NOT running for president.  Barrack Obama is.  And even saying that.....at least she has run a state and had to make executive decisions.  She has been successful in her job as governor and has a high approval rating.  What does Obama have other than the unique ability to flip flop on everything he has ever said and voted for.
I would prefer her as HIS running mate, but...
I would be fairly happy with either!  I have mixed feelings about Hillary, but like I've said, I'm sure she would do a fine job.  I just happen to reeeeally prefer Obama.
It's funnier that his own running mate
xx
What is she chose Obama as running mate?
Do you think that would be beatable? Not sure either one would go for it, but sure would make an interesting race!
Pick McCain's VP running mate!

MSNBC has a "Veepstakes" where you get to make picks on who McCain will pick for VP, and that's kind of fun.  I have no idea who he will pick, but here are some names that are bounced around:

Bobby Jindal (I think too young at 36, but religious right seems to like him, which is more than I can say for McCain, so maybe that would help him there).

Charlie Crist (McCain totally owes him for helping him boost to front runner affter Florida, but he's kind of liberal for base's tastes).

Mitt Romney (the favorite in the "Veepstakes."  Would help McCain in some places like Michigan, could hurt in deep south).

Mike Huckabee (may help in the south, but I can't see any other benefit).

The running mate will be an important factor
I think McCain really needs a good running mate. I really liked Tancreda when he was running. A lot of my viewpoints aligned with his. I also like Ron Paul or Colin Powell (not sure if Powell is Dem or Rep), so if he picks a decent running mate who is "on the ball" about foreign and domestic issues (I think McCain is going to need all the help he can get) he may stand a good chance of winning, otherwise it's going to be hard to know who they will choose to be president.
Barack's running mate - Biden

I am totally relieved to know he finally announced his VP choice.  Just got sick of the Hillary-lovers pushing for her.  So am relieved she's out of the picture.  Also relieved it's Biden.  I actually wanted Biden to win the presidential nomination when he was running.

I am very relieved mostly because Biden will bring the experience and knowlege that Barack needs.  Barack looks up to him and will definitely listen to him and follow is guidance.  I think it's an excellent choice and believe the democrats have a better than average chance to win.

As for the McCain camp - understand they are pretty upset about the choice.  I knew they were pushing for Barack to choose Hillary.  Has to make you wonder, why would the republicans be so rigid in their constantly pushing to have Barack choose Hillary - I can tell you why and its so obvious...they want to win.  Plain and simple.  If Barack chose Hillary it would be a definite 100% chance of loss (okay maybe 95% chance).  Also, do you really think the republicans are going to try to push for Barack to choose someone who is a good candidate?  So now will be interesting to see who the republicans choose for their VP.

Biden was chosen Obama's running mate

for the following reasons:

A.  He's had his face in the public trough for half a century and so has lots of connections and many favors he can call in for his boss.

B.  He has zero charisma and so cannot challenge Obama for the worship of the masses.

C.  He is a complete dips**t, and so poses no intellectual threat to his boss either.

The guy is the perfect ''second banana''.  And I love that during the primary campaign Biden kept insisting that Obama had insufficient experience to be president.  Now Biden, with a straight face, has to work for the man.  That must really chafe, but at least he caught the bouquet!

You would think Sarah Palin is running for the top
nm
Who is running for President - McCain or Palin?

Since Palin has come on the scene, she has been out front at every campaign stop.  It seems as if she is running for President while McCain remains in the background and just applauds her. I don't think I've seen him open a campaign speech since her appointment.  I wonder if this was intentional.  Did they need to get him out of the spotlight or did she just take over?

So if the intent is solely to mate and
did god create infertility and is it against god to undergo fertility treatments?
And you determine whose credible....Good day, mate.
Go read the "you're probably a liberal if..." on the conservative board. Maybe that'll be adult enough for ya.

We all know why he picked her.....
It is so obvious that he would pick a female to back him even though he is not for EQUALITY!!
Picked him probably because
x
Yep and ABC picked that up, plus she
was interviewed on NBC today by Matt Lauer.
Certainly WOULD NOT have picked
x
She was picked loooong before the
xx
And that is why McCain picked SP.n/m
x
Glad I'm not the only one who picked up on that.
It is so dreadfully uncomfortable listening to him. He's got a good speaking voice, but the uhh, um, uh, uh, um gets very old and I sit at the TV and shout "spit it out".
At first I was thinking wow they picked up....sm
on that quick, but I forgot that I get a late showing. It happened less than 5 minutes ago on the 4 pm broadcast.
Well, Obama picked her?
nm
My pardons to you, then. It was evidently picked up by

Fox and of course had the 'ole Fox spin put on it, riling up once again the unstable.

On CNN this morning, John McCain picked...sm
Sarah Palin because of her ideology.  She was never veted.  Investigators are in Alaska now doing so. Smart move John.
Okay....let's see...McCain picked the financial meltdown...
as the #1 issue. OBama picked his run for the Presidency. Meaning he is always going to put Barack first. McCain put his country first. End of story.
And Nancy Palosi hand picked more
than 11 of her people to vote NO, people who owed her favors.
McCain knew about Bristol before he picked her so what on Earth does that say...sm
about his judgment?!?! Palin has her hands full at home...I understand why he chose a woman but why this one I will never understand?!?!
I picked up the quack word from the original post.
No double standard here...unless only Obama detractors are allow to use the quack word. Since you have a hard time talking about more than one thing at a time, let's not divert our attention to include the third subject of homosexual marriage, OK...just keep it simple so you can keep up.
That wasn't my whole message - you just picked out the sentence you wanted to
But that's no surprise. There was one sentence in those two paragraphs about how the crats always blame the pubs, but they never take responsibility and blame the people in their own party who are at fault too. So you take one sentence out of the whole two paragraphs and say that's what the whole message was about. Nice try. My message was about this admistration so far being a disaster in less than one month. The only ones who see it okay are the kool-aid drinkers, and that I'm sick of all the people acting as though there was never a United States until Obama came along. Since you evidently did not read my message I'll repeat it now.

American has been around for over 200 years. We've had some good presidents and we've had some bad presidents, but Obama did not discover a new country here.

Since McCain was not elected nobody can say whether or not he would have been a better president or not, so time to put that dog to rest.
I think you picked the wrong time to make such a suggestion...nm
nm
Picked Rahm Emanuel, most left wing liberal for
Wow, real great choice.  I wished he would have picked more of a conservative or at least someone for both sides of party.  Great way to make start as President.
Sarah Palin fans are as whack as Palin.
Even John McCain's top adviser referred to Sarah Palin as a whack job.
Vote McCain and Palin! -oh and why does Palin
nm
Palin over Biden any day. Make fun of Palin all you
nm
That is not what HE says he is running as, it is what...sm
everyone else says he is running as.
Yes we do have the right. If you are running for ...sm
the hightest office in the land, we have the right to logically judge whether that person could reasonably be expected to complete his term. If someone has a serious disease that could affect his/her capability of doing so, we have the right to know that before we cast our vote. This goes for both candidates. Transparency, isn't that what both candidates say they are for?
Is he actually running?

Oh? Is someone new in the running?...nm
xx
We just keep running to and fro don't we?

Whatever we hear, read or see on TV MUST be fact.

VOTING A WRITE-IN VOTE FOR LOU DOBBS!!!

You obviously know nothing about running a

Running it

I seems that YOU are running out
of valid points as you start to take refuge in bashing?!

I am not going to engage in tit-for-tat fights with posters, ESPECIALLY NOT on the Politics Board.

Your aren't running for VP and won't be
McCain camp made such as issue about Obama's lack of foreign travel, boasting about how many times he had been overseas to visit the troops, and claiming that made him a more viable foreign policy candidate. He openly challenged Obama to make his trip overseas, gleefully hoping that Obama would end up looking like a rookie. Obama responded in kind, met with world leaders, garnered open support from Iraq's president and turned out 250,000 Berliners for his speech. Not too shabby for a rookie. So, if there was so much flap over Obama's not having been overseas and how that made him inexperienced, what does it say about his VP pick, who applied for a passport last year? McCain can't have it both ways. This issue is being raised to point out McCain double standards.
Running From Reality
If there was one pre-eminent characteristic of the Republican convention this week, it was the quality of deception. Words completely lost their meaning. Reality was turned upside down.

From the faux populist gibberish mouthed by speaker after speaker, you would never have known that the Republicans have been in power over the past several years and used that titanic power to lead the country to its present sorry state.

mccain is running

quit trying to deflect the issue.  McCain a poon dog.

Probably because he's running for president, no?
Where do you people live?  What era?  Geez.
I certainly don't want her running our country.
She scares me.
And I certainly don't want Obama running it
After what I heard at the debate, and his viewpoints on the bailout. Don't trust him.
but those 4 are not running for president! nm

If you were running for President ---

Okay, I have an idea.  If you were able to run for President or even be the top adviser for the next President, what would your plans be for getting us out of this economic crisis?  Everyone seems to hate Obama's plans, and nobody really knows McCain's plans, so help us out here - what would you do?
