Anybody know how to distinguish which retractor (Homan vs Hohmann) in ortho operative procedures? Both are listed in the Stedman's. Goggle is confusing me. This specific report is ORIF of medial malleolus fracture.

It is like this:
or, if they dictated sign after Homans, it is like this: ...Homans' sign. Tell that to your MTSO. The continuing saga of "HIPAA" is killing me. The Gotcha Police are killing me too. We need to publish a book called THE BOTTOM LINE and all use it to avoid all the petty conflicts and misinformation.

Homan=most commonly a "sign" (calf pain with foot dorsiflexion. Hohmann=orthopedic retractor. Also Holman=lung retractor. I think Google is confusing because Homan is used incorrectly when Hohmann is correct spelling for ortho procedures; I don't think you'll find "Homan retractor" in any surgical instruments catalog, but there are LOTS of catalogs selling Hohmann retractors. My Stedman's only lists Hohmann (but I have an old 2nd ed.)...jmho

I'm getting way too confused on this as I find all three when I look them up. I have a transcription work book that says "Homans." Can someone please post which is correct or the most correct?
Thank you so very much!
I am not sure, it sounds like deet or geek. and then he says using the "geek", so not sure if it would be using the "deep".
Being an x-surgical tech, I can assure you that there is no such thing. I think Dee Lee is your best bet, especially if it was a gyn report.
It is Weitlaner, positively.

Stedman's 3rd edition Ortho Word Book shows Hohmann retractor and Homan retractor...but no Holman listing. Stedman's Medical Equipment shows "Hohmann," "Holman lung" and a plain "Holman" listed under retractors...but no Homan (as found in Ortho). Logically, since Holman does not appear in the Ortho listings and Homan does not appear in the Equipment lisings, that leaves Hohmann....but also leaves one to wonder what the plain "Holman" retractor is in the Equipment book and why the Ortho book shows the "Homan". Still confused.

The word that sounds like Lexis retractor is actually Alexis retractor, and comes up in Google search as Alexis wound retractor.

Subject: Charnley retractor....sm
The use of a Charnley retractor enables a surgeon in a community hospital to perform an intertrochanteric hip fracture procedure with only the aid of a scrub technician. The Charnley retractor will hold Bennett retractors placed superiorly and inferiorly to the femoral neck--thus making it easy to obtain exposure.
