List of Genus Names?

Posted By: Kerry on 2009-04-29
In Reply to:

Does anyone know where to find a list of genus names and species?  This is probably stupid of me, but do all genera have various species?  I know when standing alone the genus name should be lower case, but when I come across a bacterial-sounding name, I am not sure what to do with it sometimes and cannot always tell from my web search.

For example:  staphylococcus when alone is not capped, but I really feel lost in this area.    Can anyone help?

Thx!

Only capitalize if it is a genus name.

If he is referring to strep throat, then that would be lower case. A specific type of strep, i.e. group B Streptococcus (Streptococcus is the genus here) would be capitalized.

Always capitalize genus names and their abbreviated forms when accompanied by a species name.

names of fingers
Subject: names of fingers

I have always heard the index finger referred to as the trigger finger.  Based on the assumption, the trigger/index finger is different than the ring finger.  I have never heard any other finger referred to with that label, but that doesn't mean I am right.

names of fingers
Subject: names of fingers

The doctor is referring to the condition "trigger finger", not the index finger. He is saying she has right ring trigger finger. Meaning that finger most likely catches or locks down with movement. I had it also and they surgically released it.
