I have never seen/used a hyphen either.  I guess it also depends upon what the doctor wants.  I have one doctor where I use a hyphen in follow-up no matter what, and I know that is not "correct" just they way he wants it.

As I know it, we put post together with the next word only if STATUS does not precede post....

postmastectomy would be correct but status postmastectomy would be incorrect....s/b status post mastectomy in the latter case.  *S*

Under HPI, patient has a very long and complicated history.  Towards the end of the list, doctor says "dysphagia status post PEG, anemia status post ilia, status post UTI etc."

Truth is, he says anemia status post ilia and then repeats himself w/o anemia, he just says status post ilia, status post UTI.

Any ideas what this ilia is? :) Thanks.

Should there be a comma MVR,CABG. I came across MVR/CABG and am now doubting myself. Thanks for your help.
status post mvr cabg
Subject: status post mvr cabg

hi,
Look what i have come across is that mvr is mitral valve replacement and cabg is coronary artery bypass graft so status post mvr, cabg or mvr and cabg is the proper way i feel. usually putting mvr/cabg means it can be either of the two but here both are different procedures so I guess to be on the safer side i think it should be cabg, mvr or cabg and mvr.
hope that helps.

To SG re. post below ____ status (psych)
Subject: To SG re. post below ____ status (psych)

Hello again, just read your post on the s/l and that helped me. Here is how some docs break down the different categories of mental status exam--
Mental status exam
-Intellectual functions
A. Sensorium
1. Orientation to ....(person,place, time and situation)

I believe he is stating the word sensorium and I think I would use it because it would apply and that is what it sounds like. Listen for that again later. And here is one link on mental status exam that you could read through (is a powerpoint presentation so just slides, but easy to look at because is concise and brief with just key words) and let me know! Good luck!
