YP staging?
Subject: YP staging?

The patient has invasive breast cancer along with some DCIS, nad one positive lymph node out of nine.
Her final extent of disease was 5.9 cm with 3/13 lymph nodes. This gives her a pathologic stage of YP (T3 N1a M0).

I have never seen the YP before, and can't find it anywhere...is this a new staging or something I don't know about?
YP staging.....
Subject: YP staging.....

If you Google YP staging, it will bring up yp related to cancer stagings. I didn't really get into it to see what it meant, but I suspect you are hearing it right.
It is staging see below..
Subject: It is staging see below..

It is typed as ypT3, N1a, M0......The T is in regards to the primary tumor, the N is dealing with the lymph nodes and the M is if it is metastatic.

Here is a great website that will explain more about staging of tumors.

in cancer staging with Hodgkin's lymphoma do we use Roman or arabic numerals?

Subject: Or even T3 N0 staging? n/m

Staging...
Subject: Staging...

I work for a anatomic pathology lab and the doctor or pathologist gave me this as a reference, hope it helps. The doctor specified using commas in between staging.

This tends to be a problem knowing exactly how to transcribe these, so here's a reference chart for you.

CANCER STAGES/GRADES:
STAGES are in Roman numerals - I, II, III, IV
GRADES are numbers (and capital letters) - 1, 2, 3; 1A, 2B
STAGING are: T, N, M with numbers (and possibly lower case letters) i.e., T1, T1a; N1, N1b, M0
_______________________________
System for staging malignant tumors, developed by the American Joint Committee on Cancer and the Union Internationale Contre le Cancer.
T tumor size or involvement
N regional lymph node involvement
M extent of metastasis

Write TNM expressions with on-line arabic numerals and commas, spacing after the commas.

T2, N1, M1
T4, N3, M1

Letters and symbols following the letter T, N. and M:

X means assessment cannot be done.

0 indicates no evidence found.

Numbers indicate increasing evidence of the characteristics represented by those letters.

Tis indicates in situ tumor.
Tis, NO, M0

The TNM system criteria for defining cancer stages vary according to the tyype of cancer. Thus a stage II cancer of one type may be efined as T1 N0 M0, while one of another type may be defined as T2 N1 M0.

Staging indications are used along with TNM criteria to define cancers and assess stages. These are expressed with capital letters and arabic numerals.

grade GX, G1, G2, G3, G4
host performance H0, H1, H2, H3, H4
lymphatic invasion LX, L0, L1, L2
residual tumor RX, R0, R1, R2
scleral invasion SX, S0, S1, S2
venous invasion VX, V0, V1, V2

Prefixes:
Lowercased prefixes with TNM and other symbols indicate criteria used to describe and stage the tumor. Please the prefix on-line, e.g.,
cTNM, aT2.

LETTER determining criteria

a autopy staging
c clinical classification
p pathological classification
r retreatment classification
y, yp classification during or following treatment with multiple modalities.

Suffixes:
The suffix (m)(in parentheses) indicates the presence of multiple primary tumors in a single site.

Other suffixes may be used, such as the following in the nasopharynx:

T2a nasopharyngeal tumor extending to soft tissues of oropharynx and/or nasal fossa without parapharyngeal extension.

T2b nasopharyngeal tumor extending to soft tissues of oropharynx and/or nasal fossa with parapharyngeal extension.
