I think he is just saying flaring, but I have not ever heard that term in a chest exam before and wanted some opinions. I googled it and couldn't get a solid answer! Thanks for your help!

I have physicians who dictate this frequently.  It is in reference to nasal flaring.  Sometimes they will state something like, "No wheezes, rales, or rhonchi.  No flaring, grunting, or retracting."

I googled wheezing, rales, retractions and found several references to flaring - I would suggest you Google and look at what pops up. I cannot paste what I found but it does sound correct... its pediatric right?
