I leave my browser open and just refresh the Word Board page, and every time I reply ("quick" reply) I still have to validate email.

I use Firefox, FWIW.

I really mean no disrespect by this. I have been in this field for 25 years, and without extensive searching independently, you will not gain the wealth of knowledge to keep the pace. Please be thankful you have the internet, as we had to rely solely on books in the past. Talk about time consuming. I continue to learn daily, but the internet has made it so much more productive for us.

Really, it seems as though your panties might be wadded just a bit. Some posters are just looking for extra help, and as a veteran MT I am more than happy to help, particularly new MTs. However, if it irritated me to do so, I would not remain logged on. Try to have yourself a pleasant day!

Subject: You need to getcha a copy of the AAMT BOS

I know a lot of folks diss it but it's helpful in settling these kinds of nagging questions that one gets (I don't know about you, but I start overthinking at about my 6th hour in....)

Anyway, here goes:

1. See the Joint Commission list of dangerous abbreviatinos here: http://www.jointcommission.org/PatientSafety/DoNotUseList

I didn't realize cc was on there as a "don't do" until I got one when I changed jobs!

And no apostrophe with capped abbreviations, so it's WBCs.

2. q.p.m., I believe.

4. not capped.

5. no hyphen for "non" and other common prefixes. Use good current dictionary as a guide.

6. No comma

7. no colon in military time

8. Unless facility prefers otherwise, lowercase generic and cap brand. No shortcuts, I'm afraid, other than perhaps a good spellchecker or expander.

Hope that helps. Like I said, an AAMT Book of Style is helpful in these kinds of things, though obviously facility preferences take precedence.

Is huffing fermented poop the next new street drug?
Filed under Offbeat, Stuff I Like

There’s been articles floating around on the internet warning about a new street drug called Jenkem. The latest “informational bulletin” from a Sheriff’s office in Collier County, Florida was posted on The Smoking Gun website. Apparently, Jenkem is fermented urine and fecal matter and when inhaled, the concentrated methane supposedly gives off a powerful high.

I checked it out at snopes.com and found this LINK. However, the actual veracity of this story is still considered “undetermined” and a link to a BBC news article was provided. Supposedly, this started with the street kids in Zambia as a cheap way of getting high. The story is too disturbing and too disgusting to go into detail here, so click away at the link at your own risk and not if you plan on eating anytime soon.

The DEA would have a hell of a time regulating something like poop. Moms like me could be the newest victims of this new drug. Who needs a crack pipe when we have a diaper genie we could plaster our face against and inhale it hallucinogenic contents?

Acute polynephritis (APN) is commonly caused by an ascending urinary tract infection with E. coli. In the etiology of APN, besides the virulence of the bacterium, the resistance of the host and the reactive inflammation play an important part.
