s/l *epidural bar and broad line * pls sm
Subject: s/l *epidural bar and broad line * pls sm

The canal was narrowed to 7 mm, and the disc osteophyte complex extended 4 mm into the canal.  At C6-7 there was moderate disc space narrowing with broad-based disc osteophyte complex, mild anterior s/l *epidural bar and broad line *central stenosis, a filling defect in the right neural foramen possibly representing a lateral disc protrusion, which would impact the exiting C7 nerve root, and a filling defect extending 7 mm in length x 4 mm.  It was uncertain whether this represented disc or disc osteophyte.

This doesn't seem to make sense..  Any suggestions here? thanks

hyphens...gait is broad-based?
Subject: hyphens...gait is broad-based?

I am drawing brain farts with hyphens lately.  Just looked at Dr. Grammar.  Still no help.  I know that before a noun, two or more adjectives are hyphenated, as in broad-based gait.  But what about gait is broad-based. ? Are there new rules on hyphenation? Do we always hyphenate heel-to-shin and the like?

In broad generalizations, brand names are catchy and easy to say, generics often are not..sm
Subject: In broad generalizations, brand names are catchy and easy to say, generics often are not..sm

Brand names..Avapro, Motrin, Aleve, Bentyl, Rescon, Comtrex, Toradol...easy to pronounce, spelling makes sense, sound like a shiny corporate marketing group named them (which they did).

Generics...celecoxib, lazabemide, dexormaplatin, praziquantel... look and sound like a bunch of syllables randomly thrown together.

With experience you'll recognize the common suffixes of generics...-mide,-cillin, -olone, -xime.

But, really, it's just lots and lots of repetition of seeing, looking up, hearing, and typing them hundreds of times.
Any way you can work it into your spellcheck and/or macro program is the best help you can give yourself.
Brand names are usually shorter
