Is the hypen in mm and cm placed when the structure or fluid being measured is mentioned after the size?  For instance

the lesion measures 8 cm.

This is a 6-month-old male with a lesion in the subcutaneous tissues of the right scalp. The lesion has been growing very slowly since birth. It has **fer-mang-i-ated** and attached to the deeper planes.

This is all the info I have here. He has an accent, so it's possibly something quite simple. Thanks for any help!
