Surgery reference material
Subject: Surgery reference material

Let me start by saying, THANKS!  I love this sight. You guys help me so much.  I am an MT in training, and little over half-way through my course.  I have really been struggling with operative reports.  Between the garggling and mumbling of the doctor's dicactation and all the new surgical instruments and drug references, I have at least 50 terms throughout a 5 minute document that I have researched for the past 5 days, spending more hours than I can count, trying to figure out these terms.  What I want to know is, does anyone know of a good website, or anything that lists surgical instruments and/or drugs, such as anesthesias, by branch of medicine? (I am on ophthalmology surgeries right now, ack!).  I am learning a lot through this process.  I just seem to be stuck right now.  Thanks!

Subject: I can find no reference to orifi either.

I think it's just orifices, unless using proper Latin names, then it may be orificia?

Here's the link to Dorlands, scroll down to orifice and all the rest. Hopefully you can decipher it!

Subject: New surgical Fellow using new terms -

Sometimes I think the surgical Fellows coming in try to use terms just to stump people!!

The pathology shows a primary cutaneous malignant melanoma with a breadth lode depth of 0.6 millimeters.

Does this make sense or am I hearing it totally wrong!?  I do a lot of melanoma reports but have never had the doctor use this term.  Then again -- she says in a different part of the report "mid thoracic back lesion".

That's okay...I have days like that myself and I can always depend on help from my fellow MTs. nm

I then entered the space just anterior to the ampulla of the vesae.  The vesae were then elevated upwards and divided and both seminal vesicles were then disected out completely.  The right seminal vesicle was torn inadvertantly but was completely disected out.  I sent this as a seperate specimen.  The post seminal vesicles and vesae now completely disected free, I developed the plane posterior to the prostate and anterior to the rectum.

s/l pelvic vas or maybe pelvic vest.. does anyone know? thanks
The patient is 8-10 weeks post repair for recurrent cystourethrocele in cuff. She is still not healed. She is a diabetic, and it had been lowering her hormones. She had granulation tissue, which we cauterized. She will continue vaginal cream "in the pelvic vas", and will see her back in 2 weeks.
or maybe "and the pelvic vest" does anyone know? thank you
