Agreed.. I think the managers are getting aware of that now...

I got a memo that said unless you are scheduled, DO NOT WORK. This business is kind of crazy; I have found it is the people that hog all the work on holidays that don't work regular shifts.

Maybe QA made the decision, not the company, and the company managers are not aware of it. sm
I started with a company that did the same thing. When I went to the manager outside of QA, she fixed it right away. Turns out that the QA manager had made a decision to do that and had not told anyone else.

It does make sense to do that though. Find out if it is a few days or longer and base your decision on that.

Can we ask which company or at least which state they're out of?

Unfortunately, I am going to be looking AGAIN due to offshore.
Agreed, but

Respect and invite your opinion.  All sides should be heard.  That is my point.  Responsible journalism tells BOTH sides.  My belief is this was done by RBJ.  I'm not relishing in her problems, just satisfied that the whole story is available.  Period.

This may have started 15 years ago, but as of 1999 charges and apeals were still pending when settled out of court.

I agree with many points you made about our economic condition here, and changes need to be made by positive role model companies.  I recognize the fact that you had positive encounters with Execuscribe ---  by newspaper archives I believe you sold your transcription company to her in 2003 (per press release dated 5/1/03), correct?   You had a good outcome and business opportunity.  The rest of us have not had that opportunity and can only assess by other information available.

All I am trying to point out is both sides of story is responsible reporting.  How can you make an informed decision without both sides??

Agreed!

I could not agree with you more. THEY are the problem for sure. I think you should move on. There is plenty of work and many other companies. Also, the person who said maybe she is sick, that's a cop out because certainly there is more than one person there who could answer you. Try Sten-Tel, they are very nice and reliable. Wish you luck!!
Agreed
A client may have their own formula This has nothing to do with the way a company may count lines, something they don't have control over. As well, many accounts have normals that you simply insert. Who couldn't rack up the lines at that rate. I think the real answer here lies within the line rate that you contract for. Perhaps these people that are very happy are making more per line than others. We know that everyone is paid differently. I truly think this is where the descrepancy is. Just assume that line counts will not be what they were way back in the day and ask for a higher line rate and everyone will be happy. If its too low, say no thank you and go to the next one. I guarantee you, you will find someone to pay you what you are worth.
Agreed
You are so right. Thank you for this enlightening post:)
Very much agreed!
This is not a private board for just strictly MTs. Anyone can come on here and post who is in this industry, management, recruiters, MTs, etc. Before someone accuses me of being management or a lead, I am not. I am just an MT who is very happy with my company. If you don't like what someone is saying on here, then IGNORE IT!!!

As far as fax machines, as the above poster stated, they are VERY inexpensive. I for one bought 2 brand new fax machines on ebay last year for a total of $30. If you are going to complain about something as stupid as spending a dollar or two to fax something, then that is just ridiculous, and that probably means that you will pick out any little thing to complain about at every company. Besides, who wants to wait for days for something to arrive in the mail when you can fax something instantaneously???

Agreed.
And then when you finally get all the weird rules straight in your head, they send a message not to do it that way any longer. !
Agreed. Well said. NM

AGREED!
I totally agree, it would be great to add this experience to my 15 years of clinical experience.  Do you have any suggestions for resources I could purchase such as Stedman Word Books etc. to learn surgery terminology and medical equipment names?  These are the things I struggle with the most - the terms used in surgical procedures and the names of all the clamps, instruments, sutures, etc.  I need some good reference material to help me out I think.  Any suggestions would be appreciated as to what I should buy or any online sources you know of.  Thanks!!
Agreed
They are horrible, zero feedback, consistently change/add your accounts and do not pay well and somehow always manage to come out on top in the cpl/per report pay no matter what?
Agreed! However, she still needs to...sm

make sure the supervisor knows that this is how things are being handled. Again, forward all of the IMs or emails you get to the supervisor, let the co-worker know that you are doing it. You might just see a substantial drop in this type of lazy behavior.

Agreed
My sister has just recently been doing some acute care work after doing straight clinic work for 3 years, and she notices the difference, especially labs and x-rays.
Agreed! SM
MQ MT, you've led a truly charmed life if you've sat in on a conference call involving 100+ people and NO ONE'S call-waiting beeped, NO ONE'S dog barked, NO ONE'S doorbell rang.

When Acusis does all-associates quarterly meetings online, the background noise is not a problem, there are visual aids and graphs, and it's easy to ask the moderator a question thru IM... (just not anonymously).
Agreed
Especially when some of the 'backup' accounts do not even sufficient work to pull 5 reports for training purposes.

Of course, in order to train for backup on an account, one would have to actually be acknowledged or get a response from one of the liaisons, who are strangely and uncharacteristically nonresponsive this past month.

Very sad.

I'd encourage everyone to read the thread just above this one. It's very informative.

Agreed.
There is reference to Rs (rupees) on their website. My guess is they are giving the work to India. Can't imagine how they would find any US MT to work for the rate they would have to pay when they are only getting 6 cpl.
Agreed
Weekends and holidays also!  But that is never the case, always have to work holidays and weekends, so I don't understand the use of India I guess.
I agreed 110% with what you have said. sm
I do VR AND traditional, make lovely money and have a happy little life. I can't complain one bit.
Yes, I am aware of it. sm
I struggled and struggled when I first discovered my company was offshoring, but then I realized that I have bills to pay and a family to feed; which comes first for me. I cannot afford to just give up 5 years with a company and start over with new docs, new accounts, etc. It was taken a little while, but in all honesty, the work that I edit from India is pretty good. There are a few things that still throw them for a loop, but for the most part, they are not as bad as you would think! I actually do way better doing editing/QA than I did transcribing, so this is where I stay.
(from above), as they must be aware of them by now.
x
I'm an IC with DSG - now aware they do this.
//
sorry - s/b noT aware they do this.
//
I was not aware FN had VR
do you mean Voice Recognition or were you doing QA???
I am aware of them
because I almost took a job with them, and I'm glad I didn't. What I hear is never good. If you Google I'm sure you will see discussions about them from this site.
no VR at all as far as I'm aware (nm)
x
Please be aware that...
they have more VR editing jobs than straight transcription, for which you will not earn enough to buy groceries...the pay for editing is very low no matter where you work.
Yes, I'm well aware of that...
If you took the time to read my post, I said that there are others who make more.  You are the one who has such a difficult time believing it, not me.
Yes, I am aware
That's why I was hoping to find someplace that kinda paid as you go. Someday when I've hit the lotto it might be an intriguing business concept- a true on-call perdiem type service. Until then, though, I guess I'll just have to learn to drink my coffee black and thrive on Cocoa Wheats and Ramen Noodles.
Are you not aware of the

unemployment numbers climbing as we speak?  Getting into a new field even if you have the right education is no piece of cake in this job market.  You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The reason people try to stay with MT is because if you have years of experience and the education, the health care field is one that is relatively recession/depression proof.  To go out on a limb at this time and try to get into a new field/job is highly risky. Who is to say even if you do manage to get the right education that you would be able to get your foot in the door with no experience under your belt?  Then, how are you going to pay off your education debt?  That is what a lot of college grads are facing today.

A lot of the MTSOs are highly mismanaged these days.  The left arm does not know what the right arm is doing and in many instances very talented MTs with years of experience, dedication and devotion to this industry are finding it a sticky mess and are jumping ship early lest they get mired into madness.  That does not mean they are not looking elsewhere and darn well should.

So please let's not knock our fellow brethern when they complain about what they are going through making a living in this industry.  Let's all be empathetic and listen and try to empower rather than put down.  There is no job in America these days that is a anything to right home about.  If people say they love their jobs and are making gobs of money, you might ask them what planet they are living on.  We don't need to hear the tough love approach at this time.  This is a serious business and it is being seriously mismanaged and a lot of MTs are unduly suffering due to the callous and thoughtless approach of the powers that be.

Agreed; MDI-FL has too mch work....
we are never slow
I've always agreed with that.
Each of us has different needs from a company.  One person's personality clash or bad fit is another person's perfect job.
What was your agreed-upon rate?
What company is this. Was this your first paycheck?
Agreed. plus I am truly puzzled by...
....the fact that I see companies continuously posting pay of around 0.07 cents per line and expecting to get experienced MTs in acute care.  Are they finding truly experienced employees at that rate?  I doubt it and what worries me is that I don't think they care.  And....I don't want to sound condescending but after looking at some of the word help posts I am beginning to wonder how some of these brand new folks can do transcription at all.  I see questions being posted for the most basic medical words and medications and it appalls me.  Sorry to be so harsh.
Agreed..not the place to go
if you need a real paycheck.  Do yourself a serious favor and keep looking.
You agreed to .075 cpl in the first place so sm
what's the big deal?  If you were willing to settle for that I can't imagine you're too worried about pay.
Agreed... it was pretty bad! sm
It would've been better to have it online. I like the option of typing out a question instead of *yelling* through dogs barking and babies crying and doorbells ringing and general static.

Also didn't like that the time and date kept changing. And what the heck is a Trans Op??? I liked it better when J said *Team* -- at least I knew who he was talking about.
A few years ago, I would have agreed with you.
anonymous nature of posting. I am 100% convinced of this, as I also browse and post on several completely nonrelated forums and/or hobbies of mine, and its the same exact nastiness that one sees here.  The thread will be so fun and upbeat and on topic, and out of the blue a troll will come on, usually a regular, sometimes a stranger, and just blast the poop out of us all. Happens in every single nonrelated place I go for some fellowship and companionship. Its very sad, and I actually have decided to just quit them all, save for this Company forum, where I need to keep an eye on MTSOs and the current trends, etc.  It just makes me so sad, but being able to post more or less anonymously on the internet can truly bring the worse out in many, many people, and I think its the ones who in real life are shy and introverted who really just flip out at the ability to finally lash out at the world from the safety of their computer.  I feel sorry for them, but hate how they have ruined it for so many of us. There is a time and a place and most of the time they just randomly pick the wrong time and the wrong place.  Its a shame and nothing anyone can do about it.
If you agreed to take a job making 7 cpl
Stop whining about the pay if you agreed to it! If you dislike the job, I'm sure there are lots of job-seeking MTs that will gladly take over for you, and do the work asked of them to boot.

If you feel 7 cpl is too low, don't accept the job in the first place. Or maybe that's all you're really worth if you truly uphold the attitude you've displayed here.
Agreed, they do overhire.

Thank you. We do not pay for spaces, and we are aware of all the
very very good arguments about it. We feel our line is a true 65 char line, unlike some other services, we pay for headers, footers and everything on the page, and we have volume bonuses, we reimburse for flat rate phone plans, have bonus days off for volume, have given a raise, some small, some better, every year since we began 7+ years ago, and always have work. We try to fit people to the type of work they like, ops, discharges, internet, lanier, acute care, etc. We give high volume producers a few accounts daily so they don't run out of work, and lower producers just one, or perhaps two if they wish for insurance. We don't jerk you around acct to acct daily like I've read on this board of other services, we have a wonderful QA staff and support for all new people, growing every year so no one is cut short. We have almost all the original MTs who came with us when we started, and we hope that speaks volumes. SOmetimes it's not how much per line but how much can you make per hr, or per day, day in and day out with a service, and be treated with respect. We are not for everyone, but we hope we are not dismissed offhand because of the space issue without one really knowing us as a company.
And besides, they are already aware of the problem
I just wonder how they are going to resolve the issue.  I don't suppose they can unhire the recently hired MTs?  I wonder if they hired them at a lower rate than the oldtimers and just figure if the long time MDIers quit then they are paying less?
Please be aware that Transcend is
accounts in the near future, so if you like VR that is for you.  But they are only paying half, so if you get 8 cpl for MT, you only get 4 CPL for VR.  Also, no incentives or shift differentials and they require you to work on weekends.  I don't know about the other one.
Are their clients aware?
If I were a client of theirs, I would look for someone else to do my transcription. If I were a patient of this client and if I found out that the client knowingly supports this sort of crap, I'd look for healthcare elsewhere. Heck, docs come a dime a dozen!!!

It all comes down to the customers--that's US!!! The American citizens who trust that our medical records are (1) kept confidential and (2) are done correctly IN THE USA!!!

There should be a way to inform the customers of HIS's clients. First and foremost, we, as customers, as Americans, need to boycott the physicians first--the ones who are sending American money overseas!!! There are PLENTY of other docs out there who support the USA and want to keep the work at home. They'll gladly take my money!

Persnonally, I don't want my medical record entrusted to overseas folks who, for the most part, hate us to begin with. They barely speak a word of English and they certainly do a pathetic job at trascribing. I've seen the damage these folks can do to medical records.

I think that we should boycott MDs who are paying HIS to transcribe for them.

If we don't stand up for ourselves now, what's next????

Just be aware that all accounts

on VR and they only pay you half your line rate - so if you are making 8 CPL, you would be paid only 4 CPL, and also no incentive for production, no shift differential, nothing extra, just 4 CPL.  Also it is very, very hard to double your production to make up for the half pay.  I felt I was mislead when I was hired about eventually having to go to VR (not given a choice) and what it entailed, low pay, etc.

Thank you. I am aware of that. I am wanting
Thanks for your input.
Not that I am aware of. As it seems that most of the "nationals" are going there, maybe some d

You all may not be aware that there are two MediTasks
They are not the same company. The web address of the one which posted a job offer here is as mentioned above. There is another MediTask with the web address of www.meditask.net. I am only personally familiar with the meditask.net as that is the company I work for, a great one, by the way.
No bonuses that I'm aware of - s/m
Only been there a couple of months, though.  Schedule:  You pick either a Sun-Thu or Tue-Sat schedule.  You have a 24-hour window to make your daily line count.  Minimum required line count is 700 lpd.  Need a day off - just tell your supervisor.
I wasn't aware
I wasn't aware that there was a pay cut, although I've only been there a year. I know there are some accounts going to VR, which apparently by definition pays less per line (I've not done it yet). I know that every time they switch platforms, I seem to struggle to make my line count (about 920), which is coming as a bit of a shock to me, as I used to be able to push out 2500 lines a day, albeit actual counted lines instead of the calculated lines everyone does now. If I sit chained to my desk day and night, it only will get me at most 1400 lines. Apparently they do have levels of account, so perhaps people getting bumped to the easier, non-ESL, limited formatting accounts are being made to take the pay cut to the rate paid for the lower tiered accounts.
You are aware that when you are working sm
outside your hours and work is low, you are taking work away from the people who are actually scheduled to work those hours?
