Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

I think the reason you gave for becoming
a transcriptionist, as you put it, probably becoming a Transcriptionist in the first place to stay at home so you would not have to pay for childcare sucks. I got into it because I love medical, did not work from home at first, earned that right. You gave very poor reason as far as I can see.
If you knew the real reason she is gone you might be glad she's gone
if its the same person I am thinking of, who got fired about a month ago.
The vet I work gave me a nice bonus.
I got a card from one of the transcription companies I work for.
I gave 2 wks notice as IC and I had to work to the very last minute. It sucked.

I once gave my notice when I was in a non-MT position, gave

2 weeks, but the person I was supposed to train felt like she knew my job better than I did (although she knew squat) and was a pain to deal with, never on time, etc. so I only worked about a week of my notice before I left and told the person I was supposed to train that since she knew more than I did have at it.  Anyway the owner wouldn't pay me for vacation.  I filed a complaint with the labor board and they were more than happy to get my money for me.

Breitner can threaten all they want to.  If you can document that you are owed monies, if Breitner can't prove that you aren't owed monies the labor board will be glad to collect your money.  I would also file a complaint with the Attorney General .   I have heard several people have had payment issues with them while the still worked for them.  If people are willing to let them get away with it by just chalking it up to experience, then they will continue to try to get away with it.  I'd contact the IRS too.   I don't know what Breitner thinks they can do to you - let them threaten all they want to.  A word of advice - DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT.

I'll bet this one's a real joy to work for.....
;p
You are a piece of work. Real pro. Any company would be proud
to have you.
I'm sure because the work is coming back a real mess..sm
These companies think they can breeze by with their overseas MTs, and sure they can if they have enough back up by seasoned US MTs and editors. Once the proportion becomes unbalanced, and they have more overseas MTs and less US MTs, the mess will start to pile up. It really does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. In time, it will come back to kick these companies in the rear. That's why I always say an experienced MT makes a much better transcription service owner because they would never put themselves in this situation; clearly able to decipher fantasy from reality and not just the big $ signs. I am not referring to this company, but any MT company in general.
dunno but heard they are some real witches to work for
somebody that was with them before they dropped part time positions.
OhBrother sounds like a real piece of work, huh?
Oy vey...........
So problem is with the MT, not the company? You are a real piece of work.
@
I gave notice and was told had to work final weeks in order to be eligible for rehire. Had no
:[
I actually have two real jobs with real benefits. sm
One is SoftScript at 10.5 cents a line, taxes taken out and PTO, insurance, the whole ball of wax.  The other is a hospital work at home job, same scenario.  They are out there.
No, not enough work.... that is the reason why
I am looking to leave. We have been out of work for over a month now! Also, back in November. Also, back in August, etc. My sup is nice. No complaints about Quality. Equipment is okay (big-time old monitor). Platform leaves a lot to be desired - SUPER slow and locks frequently. Pay is decent WHEN THERE IS WORK!
That TT is getting all the work now for some reason or another ! n/m
zzzzzzzzzzzzz
The reason there is little to no work

A practice of a few of my fellow MTSO owners, particularly the large MTSOs, as well as employers in general these days.

They do behind-the-scenes deals with businesses related to MT, such as MT schools and MT equipment/software dealers, to benefit financially, if not save themselves, including sending work from US-based employees directly to overseas divisions and operations, without informing the US employees.  Can’t blame them for looking out for their financial interests! CAN blame them for 1) sending work overseas when there are well qualified MTs right here in the States, and 2) not communicating with their employees.  You MT employees who are out of work for longer than a day and do not have another gig need to file for unemployment, period.  I know it can be complicated for MTs to get unemployment, but if you signed up for FT work and don’t get to work FT, you get unemployment.  I guarantee that filing for unemployment is something us MTSO owners, or any employer for that matter, does not want to deal with.  But get ready - you may find that your work will increase, but most likely you will be given the bad dictators (they send the good ones to the overseas folks who won't work for X amount of money to transcribe the bad dictators).

No I don't know - but that is the big reason why I don't take work from them anymore -
They would just send a check in the mail and nothing else - I wanted a breakdown, I got nothing.  What the heck???
Little to no work was the main reason.

I kept asking for backup accounts and for weeks couldn't get any, despite there being several accounts with OT on them.  Talked with upper management and finally got 2 backup accounts, neither of which had any work on them.  I was getting tops 20 hours a week and that was having to sit in front of the computer for 12 hour stints and check every 5 minutes to see if a report came in. I was working 7 days a week and trying all shifts to get in lines, so it wasn't a matter of me not making an effort.

Enterprise has lots of bugs in it and despite promises that the most current update would take care of the problem it never did.  I would lose jobs, the system would freeze up and I had to reboot.  All the while you are clocked in so your line count goes to heck.  The system was so slow most days that I would sit a minute in between reports, which affects your line count because you're on the clock and not being productive.    They have nice incentives but because of the above there was no way to reach them.

They denied overhiring, but they did way overhire and they lost several good MTs about the same time I left because there wasn't enough work.  Lots of people were frustrated and posted on the boards here and then we were reprimanded for doing so.  The internal boards were so heavily monitored that anything the least bit negative was deleted.  Talking to my STM was like banging my head against a brick wall, so basically there was nowhere to go.  We also got several e-mails with the threat of having to go to India and I wasn't going to have that dangled in front of me all the time.  I was doing my part.

I cried every single day I was there I hated it so much.

The reason there is low work/no work during the week is because so many of YOU at TT want

TO WORK BANKER's HOURS and DAYS and NOTHING ELSE !!   Poor baby . . .

The reason Transcend is offshoring is because no one here wants to work for them! nm
x
There is a good reason why we work on production . . .
and that reason is production is the only way we will make money. You don't get raises with wage pay and you're basically locked in with no chance to increase your earnings.
YEP...Just want I suspected as the reason we have very little work OVERHIRING
They repeatedly hire yet we have hardly any work. Course, I suppose it could be the revolving door as the cause.
I quit twice. Both times for the same reason...low/no work. nm
x
Right, I'm Enterprise. On our side, vacations aren't the reason for 0 work.
Good luck to us all.
I have heard they will have three main offices. Is there a reason Amherst is so short of work. What
is it they are trying to accomplish. They must be losing MTs if there is no work. No the new ASR rate is not out yet. If it goes low you will see an exodus off ASR I guess so that will mean more MTs on the regular work. It will be a big shock for some of them to see what that is like now.
I have heard other people comment on lack of work and have left for that reason. How much of an

issue can this be.  Also, is the sound on these accounts poor.  That is the other problems I have heard people comment on.  I was really looking for uptodate comments.  How bad are these issues at present.  I dont want to leave one company with no work problems and go to another one with the same problem.  I cant be available 24/7 to get work with having a family.

I guess this explains part of the reason we keep running out of work. My office lost a lot of huge
accounts in the past year.
You can be fired for any reason or no reason at all.
No one HAS to employ you. No one MUST keep you in employment.

As an IC, your unemployment isn't coming from the account of your contracts! It comes from YOUR tax payments!

Appreciate those of you that gave
helpful responses
Well you just gave yourself away on who you are.
You really need to try and hold it in
Yep but many of us gave above and beyond for that
company and to be lied to and treated like we were in the end is a disgrace.  If you're happy good for up, but with their ethics I wouldn't work for them again.
You are not alone. Me, I gave up. nm.

before they gave my job away to
India last year, I was in-house, hourly, but we had to justify time-loss the last 5 or 6 years because people were always coming in, even at night when I was alone, and interrupting your work flow. I will say we had a service helping, and everybody was first-in, first-out, except for x-rays and path, so we all got our share of horribles to contend with.
Me too. But, I gave up. Although I got
responses back from my resume and or testing they were interested (several), never heard back from any so I just increased workload to help on weekends at regular IC job. Oh, well. Guess they got busy with so many resumes, or the scare of the economic down-turn. Hope you all hear back. It is tough to wait for an interview, because bill collectors do not understand about these things LOL.
I gave them my notice. I was looking

for a job when I found them so I'm not worried. Good luck to you. You might need it.

I gave MQ a set schedule as an SE but
I have the power to change it myself. I simply call (and followup with an email, always) and let them know as soon as I can that I will not be working. I always try to tell them when I will be making that time up or what my alternative plans are. I haven't had any problem.

I don't have a problem with them having a schedule to know when I am expecting to work routinely but I don't have to get approval or get someone saying, "Gee, I wish you wouldn't take off tomorow." I just make my own decision.

I almost gave up the first year--
I was lucky if I made $10,000 that first year. I worked for a small company with low pay and not much work, but they were willing to train a newbie. Now I make $30,000-35,000 and I'm happy with that.
hey, the OP gave her a little info but she can't take the
lol
Went through the same thing and gave up. nm
nm
She gave up too easily IMO.
You can get into the system and see the dictator's other reports. When doing a discharge or consult you can check the H&P. You build your normals for the difficult ones. It takes some time, but it's just the usual groundwork in my experience. These ESLs are quite doable compared to one account I had to do now and then with a different service. And what you can't figure out, you blank. More than 3 blanks and it goes to QA. Not your problem after that. The QA people are great and very complimentary of my work. Makes me feel very good to have them reply that yes, that one was tough! We laugh over what VR would do with those dictators. People can only get good with ESLs if they persist at learning them.
I also gave up my CMT status
and dropped my AAMT membership a few years ago when I saw in the JAAMT the list of new CMTs had many more from India than from the U.S., and I totally agree with you.
when they gave away my in-house, I
finally got a holiday off. I have worked them for so long, everybody quit even inviting me anywhere. This is the first time I have had Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years, mother's day, off in 21 years. Mostly just got one or two a year.
I gave up too. I got another account with
Keystrokes which is a lot better, but not much work. I think I'll try the DocQScribe account again. Both of these accounts run out of work frequently, almost every day.
I already gave them Spheris's name.
I think what they are looking for besides the names of the companies are the stories of how the outsourcing has affected us financially, hardship wise.

I also told them everything you read the Medical field is NOT being affected by the recession....but we are part of the medical field and we have been and continue to be affected by corporate greed.
Gave up 2 IC jobs
With the incentive plans at TT, I found I was able to drop my 2 IC jobs and just work an 8-hour shift for TT and make a VERY decent wage. Holy moses, does it ever feel great to have a LIFE again, no more being chained to the computer 24/7 trying to make a living!

Oh yeah, great people at TT, too. No surprises, great training, all the other good stuff MTs want/need in a job.

Me too! I gave up 3 jobs for TT and have
Plus benefits like days off paid... this is really really a nice place to be and I so count my blessings.
She gave the name of the company.

If they gave the MLS a raise, they would not be able to
give themselves the big raises and bonuses they get. They want to keep us crawling.
clicked on something that gave it to me
but the stuff I see in the archives seems to mostly relate to a Wyoming Transform. ??
this is so sad, but it gave me a big laugh, thanks,,,nm
