They do supply standard, but I have connected my IBM keyboard.
xx
I wish Logitech made a wireless ergonomic/split keyboard.
nm
standard keyboard
welcome aboard
yes, they do supply the computer, but
it'll tke them FOREVER to get it out of your house when/if you quit. I quit in Feb. and am STILL looking at that stupid machine. I still continue to get company emails, my emails go unanswered.... Communication is severely lacking, always was IMO....
Will they supply a computer? Then
If they supply computer equipment, then that could be a reason. So far the only company that ever asked me for permission to do a check is a company that would have supplied the hardware. Otherwise, I have never heard of a company wanting to check a credit report.
Did everyone have to supply their own computer?

I had to turn down a job because I did not have XP on my personal computer.  I only spoke to one supervisor via email and she said I needed my own PC.

Does anyone know where to find a good deal on XP?

Thanks.

Do you have to supply your own computer?

When I applied I was told I needed my own computer with XP.  The computer I have, XP I do not.  I cannot seem to find XP for a reasonable price either.  Is this still what they ask for or has it changed?

Thanks

companies that supply computer

Are there any good companies that allow part time work and furnish the computer, also?

yes they do, everything you need computer wise they supply. sm
very friendly user platform, pay always on time and correct, great bosses, great benefits, great sound quality, great QA people, all around a great place to work. Come on over to Webmedx. You will be glad you did.
Does etrans supply the computer? TIA
xxxxxx
MDI doesn't supply a computer,
so you have to have your own.  I take it your current company does supply your computer, in which case - yes - you should use your own computer.
Which companies supply computer? sm

Looking for a dependable company that supplies the computer and everything you need.  Are there any ones left?

Thanks.

Will TransTech supply a computer if needed?
Also, who is the pay at Transtech and how often are you paid?
I was told when I applied that if you need a computer KS will supply you with one, you then make pay
until it is paid off! Not a bad deal, and a good way to get a new computer.
Axolotl computer comes with SpeedType Expander which is the same as Shorthand
Don't know where you got your information about not being able to use Exanders with Lotus, but I just started with Axolotl and the computer I got was already equipped with SpeedType  (another name for Shorthand, which means you will be able to transfer most other Expanders directly into it).  Also, I did some random character counts on reports where I used expanders a lot and ones where I had to mostly hand type, and the lines counts were right on.  You get credit for the lines whether you type it or use the expander.  Also, a lot of companies ask for computer rental -- Webmedx $250, Amphion $25 per month for 2 years, and I would much rather have their computer that I can send back if it crashes (and they will get another one to me in 24 hours) rather than have to run out and buy myself a new one in order to be able to work again.
Axolotl supplies computer, but they aren't hiring. nm

WEBMEDX PROVIDES A COMPUTER FOR BOTH FT AND PT EMPLOYEES!

Anyone know if Alltype provides computer to their employees?

Axolotl - Have a question for former employees

This inquiry is directed to any Axolotl MTs who were hired within the last 2 years and either quit or were asked to leave after only a few months of employment who are willing to honestly say why they left Axolotl.

Hope you guys are willing to help me with questions that I am sure the company does not like asked.  I have seen some good comments about Axolotl on the board but like everyone knows there are either cheerleaders or disgruntled ex-employees giving the majority of replies.  I need something in between.   From reading the posts there seem to be lots and lots of MTs who only work for a company (any company) for a few months and then leave for one reason or another.  It seems that quite a few leave in less than six months because what they were told when hired was not what ended up being the actual day to day work and the MTs feel they are not making the money they thought they would.  Not to say the recruiter intentionally lied about ESL dictators, work availability, QA requirements, or non-paid daily activities during the interview process but somewhere along the line miscommunication happened.  I hate taking time to apply, take the test, get hired, fill out a mountain of paperwork, get the computer set up, train, memorize all the different requirements, deal with QA and management, only to end up quitting or being asked to leave after only a few months and then having to start the process all over again.  Not that anyone would ever run out of companies to work at since there are hundreds of transcription companies to pick from, it’s just that I don’t like to job hop.  I would rather stay put in one place for several years before needing to move on again.

I have heard from a couple of different sources that Axolotl has changed A LOT over the last 2 years since they added several new accounts.  MTs who have been with them over 2 years are usually the cheerleaders because they are only working on established “old” accounts and don’t deal with the new accounts.  What I have heard is that many of the MTs who were hired by Axolotl within the last 2 years have either quit or were asked to leave in less than a year because the “new” accounts are unbearable.  Many don’t even make it through the first month because QA is very stringent and the MTs feel they cannot achieve both minimum lines and maintain the stringent QA standards.

Since I am getting lazy and don’t want to job shop over and over again I would appreciate if any former Axolotl MTs would be willing to answer the following questions:

1.  How long did you work for Axolotl?

2.  Why did you leave?   Did you quit on your own or were you told that you were not meeting standards and they were letting you go?

3.  Now that you know what Axolotl expects are there any questions you wish you had asked before being hired?

Feel free to e-mail me if you want to keep your reply private.

Thank you.  I appreciate your honesty and willingness to help out.

Anyone is free to post, not just Axolotl employees
so you don't know who is posting.
Axolotl employees----have questions about line definition, etc. sm

How does Axolotl define a line?  Do they pay for spaces, headers, footers, & expansions?  Are you docked for blanks or sending things to QA?  If so, how much.

Thanks for the info.

Have a fabulous 4th!

I use MS 4000 ergonomic - worked for me..
I developed tendinitis and some numbness and tingling in my fingers, but didn't have enough money to buy an expensive ergonomic keyboard so tried the cheapest I could find. I noticed that by holding my hands outward and up a bit, it relieved some of the pressure and that is what this keyboard essentially does.

It has taken about 2+ months, but the pain in my wrist is gone. It took a bit of getting used to and the keyboard sounds like a an old rattle trap, but now I like it and wouldn't go back. It might be an option if you don't have a lot of money to spend...mine was about $60.
Any Axolotl employees willing to share info., platform, ESL %, etc. All info greatly appreciated. sm

Along with the platform, ESL %, pay range, lpd required, split shift or 12-24 hour window available, I would be interested in knowing your personal experience with this company, what type of relationship you have with supervisors and other coworkers, etc.  Otherwise, the all the 411.

Thanks!

I wanted to use my own computer and get rid of the RENT on TT computer, but Vista is not compatible.
Good way to make them money.  Not have to upgrade software so that Vista is compatible with Vista.  Huh?
Keyboard
Some info for you on main board, maybe 2nd or 3rd page.
keyboard
OK...call me dummy...what do you mean external keyboard???  Just signed out from work at 7 a.m...still not functioning, not thinking....
One more computer question. I got my computer today and
trying to set it up.  Man unpacking the box and setting everything up is a major undertaking; more so for me because I used a laptop before and my desk isn't tower friendly.   Anyway, no info came with the tower and I don't yet have the password to get in (paperwork says to call M-F).  Is the tower WiFi compatible?   My DSL is hooked to a different computer and I wanted to know if I can setup new computer as WiFi or if I need to move modem to new computer and set other computer up as WiFi.
NN is passed out at the keyboard
with empty bags of Cheetos strewn around, Cheeto powder all over the keys, guess she'll have to call in sick today.
Contour keyboard
Has anyone here tried the Kinesis Contour Keyboard? The two sides of the keyboard letters are split far apart to opposite sides of the keyboard platform, farther apart than the standard ergonomic keyboards. I just wondered if it's hard to get used to and if it helped with wrist pain.
Keyboard Template
Send an e-mail to Info@N2NTrans.Com and I will send you a copy of the Meditech keyboard template.   Jeff Smith
Silent keyboard

Does anybody have a recommendation for a keyboard that is almost silent?  Mine is so noisy it hinders my ability to hear words correctly.  Thanks!

Nobody held your hands to the keyboard
  Go away!!
Thanks, I don't have the foot pedal, had to do it with keyboard. SM
YUCK! NOT FUN!
keyboard sticking .. thus the errors!!
My apologies .. I am going to buy a modem and will get a new keyboard as well .. probably need an eye appt. too!!
You plug in a keyboard just like you would on a desktop and

use that keyboard instead of the one on the laptop.  Keyboard doesn't have to be USB, can use an adapter if your keyboard is PS/2, although older laptops do have a plug for PS/2.

The PC check also messed with my keyboard,
could not use some shortcut buttons, had to reinstall the keyboard driver CD that came with it and then it worked fine again, hopefully you have one for yours, otherwise you can most likely find the driver for it on the web somewhere. Haven't noticed any problems otherwise from the PC check program.
you can download typewriter/keyboard sm
sounds for free from the internet. I had to do that because it also helps me by hearing the typos. You can turn the sounds of the keyboard up or down but it doesn't affect the sound of your dictator. I think its called Sound Pilot.
DocQ audio from keyboard
CTRL + SPACEBAR to toggle on and off for play, CTRL + comma and CTRL + period for rewind and fast forward. Once you've tried it for a half a shift, you'll never want to see your footpedal again!
I use both a wireless mouse and keyboard
and love it! I've used both the Microsoft 7000 wireless keyboard and mouse as well as the Logitech wave wireless keyboard and have no problems with either one keeping up with fast keystrokes.
Definitely keyboard + expander macros. SM
Mouse absolutely as little as possible. Maximal creation of macros (or more realistically, aiming for) to perform those corrections that come up all the time. BTW, those macros I create on my Expander belong to me. Most MTs so far don't have this skill to offer, making me faster and better than most. That'll change someday, in big part due to posts like this, but until then, or until tech changes make this skill obsolete, it definitely works to my monetary advantage. Try it.
Don't want to have to use keyboard to type test reports. Anyone know (sm)
of companies that just do the verbal testing or a company that you can do the test reports using the same foot pedal control we use with Medquist?
Keyboard. Using the mouse is too hard on my hands. nm
.
Hate using keyboard for testing ? co. test can use MQ footpedal? nm)

.

You can plug in a USB keyboard into a laptop or use a docking station.
NM
DocQ, hmmm, how to play audio from keyboard??
Can you share.  Didn't know, worked on platform twice and nobody ever said this.???  Can you share?
I use keyboard only....move along with the voice with my arrow keys, then...
my mouse is right where the voice is when I have to make a correction. Couldn't do it any other way.
I use the Microsoft wireless 4000 comfort keyboard
and had no trouble switching to it from my split keyboard.  It is curved, so has a similar feel.  I love being wireless.  I use it with my laptop and work on it all day.  I think I've been working wireless for about 2 years now and couldn't go back.  I work with my keyboard in my lap, so the wireless is great.
They pay better than that now. They do not supply PC
but just like all the other companies, they do require Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs. They are nice people to work for. I have been there a few weeks.
I work on a lap top. I plug in an external monitor and keyboard at home, and
nm
not gott.... GOTTA (I hate my laptop keyboard..fingers are too fat)

They do supply equipment for a (sm)
nominal lease fee.  No weekends unless you want to work them.
