Be thankful. I wasted a lot of time testing only

In Reply to: Glad to know I'm not the only one. I never even was offered a chance to test. sm - LTMT

to be told I did great & they'd keep it on file for whenever they are hiring. WHY on earth do they test people when they aren't even hiring?! Several other MTs I know went through the same thing, wasting hours testing for nothing. I think they need an HR person who knows what she's doing.

Yikes... and I wasted my time testing.
You've got to be kidding.  They sounded really strict on the accuracy rate etc and sounded picky, yet they want to offer some that. Ridiculous. For that rate, they may want to stick with newbies. I'm insulted, I think....
Then they've wasted their time
There are a lot of things that could be going on, both innocent, stupid, and sneaky. They could be mining resumes to pad their employee list and make it appear as if they do have US employees. They could be stupid enough to waste time posting on a US board for a position in Pakistan. Or they could have innocently somehow missed putting in a location for a US transcriptionist.

Ignore it or wait and see if they clarify the position in the future.
okay so she wasted her time looking for blanks on a report that you obviously could have found yours
Now how is that her job again? The point is be responsible for your own reports and take pride in them...and being an MT is more than just knowing terminology..I am sorry you had a bad experience with QA but not all of us are like that...
Avg response time to app/testing??

I have applied (and tested where asked) to 4 companies, 2 of them acknowledged receiving my applications 7-10 days ago.  I realize I may not connect with The Job overnight, but am wondering what is a reasonable amount of time to allow a national company to accept or reject?  I know I can call them directly, and obviously will need to at some point!...on the other hand, if I need to just give them more time, I guess I can do that too.  I appreciate anyone sharing who is in the know with this stuff, thanks in advance!

If an MT takes time to go through the testing process...
MTSOs should take the time to respond, even if it's an auto-response, letting the MT know that either they did not cut the mustard or that the position was filled already. It's the decent thing to do. That's the benefit of computers. It's not the personal touch most would prefer, but it sure beats sitting around waiting for an answer.
Ortho department has testing, the others do not at this time. nm

Do not waste your time testing until u know the pay rates.
I have been applying and testing for companies and am just appalled at the incredibly low rates that are being offered. Please don't waste your time like I did until you know the pay range.

When you ask for the pay range, some of them will simply ignore the request for info. Pathetic.
What should be the turn around time to hear response after testing?

Exactly why I wasted only 6 mos
with them.
I'd have to agree with the testing of 6 voice files. Turned me off. Who has time to spend doing a
of those tests... I need a job not a day of testing.
Oh God, I wasted 2 hours
I am so, so upset.  I have been doing the MT test for Cobb Transcription, and they have the entire test on one web page.  I had about 5 minutes to finish the test when Internet Explorer locked up and the entire test disappeared!  I had tried to save the entire page prior to this, but it was too big and copying ended up with Not responding.  This is after 2 hours of looking up abbreviations, correcting sentences, and transcription.  I am so upset I can't take it anymore.  I will never again take a test like that which puts all parts of the test on an entire page.  It is too risky.  I feel like crying and all I want is a job!
Sheesh, that's awful. Glad I didn't waste my time testing, had a feeling....

I feel your pain and have wasted more of my
time on new companies than I can ever get back. I didn't honestly have time to read your whole post, but I know I made myself a thorough list of all things to cover before I ever even thought about saying Yes, and found that it made no difference at all in the end. The recruiters promised the moon, answered all my concerns in the way I wanted to hear, and then I got the bait-and-switch every single time once I actually was employed. Its so disgusting in our industry, and I'm sure they get away with it because we are all remote - I much prefer to look somebody straight in the lie when I'm getting lied to...Its so very hard via phone, and I have also noticed that they won't put it in writing, exactly. So you have to either trust them and give it a shot, or mistrust them and don't give it a shot. But I have tried at least a dozen companies in the past few years, and absolutely gave up all hope, and stayed with my original employer - at least I know this enemy. I researched and researched every single company, confirmed and double confirmed all info given me, even had things go great for weeks while in training, transcribing thousands upon thousands of lines per day, only to have the bait-and-switch dumped on me every single time, bar none, when I was out on my real account and stuck with the company. Its as if it was a candid camera episode - gone were the dictators I had grown accustomed to, and here were the garbage ESL dictators and/or no work, and/or cherry picking, and/or new hours required, etc. I have no stomach for changing jobs ever again.
Futurenet require extensive, time consuming testing? I hate those you can't use foot pedal for.

Oh, you don't know how thankful I am. nm

RE: VR, I am so thankful that I am
retiring in two more years. I plan to spend my days in Santa Monica enjoying the sun and hopefully never thinking of MTing again.
Thankful at CHRISTMAS
I want to thank my company Transform for always have lots of work, great pay, great people and just a great place to work.  I am not bragging either, I am THANKFUL and would like others to know that there are companies out there who actually do what they say, pay well, and treat their people nice.  It's a shame that some others on this board will not allow us to post on the COMPANY BOARD about our COMPANIES.
Personally I am very thankful for ...

this person posting this information about this company, as well as anyone else posting about any company on this board, good or bad.  There are lots of good and bad companies out there and this is one of a few resources that we, as MTs, have to come and search out information about companies.  That is not to say that you make your final opinion on a company based on a post here but it definitely helps.  In this day and time when most of us are struggling to make ends meet, working on horrible platforms that make it almost impossible to make a decent line count, dealing with horrible audio and horrible dictators, it is at least a bit comforting to know what little bit you have earned you will actually receive.

To the original poster, I am so sorry that this has happened to you and I wish you the best in obtaining what is owed to you.  Thank you again for this warning.

be thankful you didn't pass
the employer of the year will jerk you around like you wouldn't believe. I have just quit after 6 months of lies, lack of work, implied threats. I have all the memos, IMs, etc. that show exactly what a bunch of liars and cowards they are. They are only interested in India and getting those people trained and on line. Be careful and be very cautious about who you work for.
I would be very thankful to the person who would give me...sm
names of companies which do only or mostly VR, possible with their own Expanders that is trained to MTs. Till now I am using my mouse.
I am good at it, but want to get better. I am 30% to 40% faster doing VR than straight.
Thank you.
Yes, I have lots to be thankful all year around, a paycheck which

my fingers work harder and harder for each and every year MT'ing.

Yes, I am thankful that I don't have to buy clothes to wear to work and fight the traffic on the way, but I am still the dedicated, experienced employee as if I were driving into the office and obtaining the BEST of all the benefits and reading my paycheck stub to say ***piecemeal work****.  That makes me irk each time I see that.  We Transtech MT's cannot even see how many lines our fingers have pounded it on our paycheck stubs for the pay period . . . why not ???

I am thankful that lightbulbs were on sale last week. nm
nm
Not thankful for now work -- creditors do not accept that excuse!

How can you thank a company who overhires and leaves the MT's without enough work.  TT has done this recently.  Of course, there is always excuses such as holiday, school starting, etc.  But this is not the case at all now.

If you provide for yourself -- no husband -- then you should reconsider hiring on with TT.

Testing
Chronicle Transcripts will wave testing based upon a person's years of experience and good references.
Testing
Can anyone tell me of any companies that do only written and/or verbal testing?  Thanks a lot.
job testing
When I tested (within the last 3 months), I did three reports from three different MDs.  There were blanks somewhere in each of them.  Not many, but I did have to leave blanks.  And yes, I got the job. So cheer up!  I think they expect the blanks.  Better to leave blanks than make up something you're not really sure you heard.
TH testing

Would you mind sharing what the oral test is like??  TIA!

Just keep on testing.
Don't be discouraged. The more you test, the better you will become at it and it will desensitize you to the stress. I wish you the best!
What about testing? Did they get
back to you and offer you the job prior to testing based only on your resume? Thanks.

testing
I went through some additional training to get on with the company I am with, and the voice files were 10x harder than those I work with every day -- you need to find out from these companies if their work is like the voice test files or not.  It is my understanding that there also 3 categories, easy, medium, and hard dictators -- and that determines my pay scale.
testing
I believe I took a written test only, if even that (I only remember filling out application and sending my resume, but that was to old recruiter for KS) and I KNOW I did not take a verbal. I've only taken a verbal with one company I applied with, and that was odd. I believe the heaviest weight for this job was my interview with the Lead. I did the same as you - took it on PT. I've already been offered FT, but I'm not ready to do that yet. Give it a whirl ... you'll like it, I'm sure.
re: testing
I just took their test this morning and I guess misery loves company because I am glad to hear I wasn't the only disgruntled applicant!  The sound quality was very poor. They must be looking to hire psychics...I prefer it when they try to stump you with obscure terminology.
testing
What companies?
testing
I graduated in November from PCDI and had no problem finding people to test me. I am not disagreeing about PCDI being a less-than-average school, but she is 3/4 through it already, and it can be done.
testing
What companies did you find that were willing to test PCDI grads?
Maybe testing is new
I have been with Keystrokes for almost 2 years on an account that I love. I never tested when I started. Maybe it is something they have recently implemented.
testing

I refuse to test. I have 7 year experience. I send them a sample of my best work, maybe a H and P by a pakistan dictator. It is insulting to be tested. Dustin Hoffman doesn't test for parts why should I test for a danged typing job.

Testing
I recently tested for an in-house hospital position and the supervisor told me up front the dictator was American, and she saw no point in testing on a heavy ESL dictator since it really would not tell her much about my base of knowledge or interpretation skills. The file she did give me though had a lot of tricky phrases and common-sounding words that an MT with lack of experience would have a problem with. It was by far the best testing philosophy I had ever been exposed to. In other words, a supervisor who actually gets it.
testing

HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Applied for a TRANSCRIPTION job, not a QA job.  In the testing she sent four jobs that need to be edited and they don't have voice files to go with them, just read them and edit them.

Maybe I am wrong, but I sent them back to her.  IMO if you are testing for a transcription job you are testing on your skills of typing, not editing.

correct me if you think i am way out of line

Testing

I tested also and sent my tests back on 02/14/07.  I just assumed may be they had filling their positions?  Not sure at this point.

Testing
Is there both a written and transcription test?  If so, do you think they are difficult?
Testing?
I have been out of the loop for many years when it comes to applying for a job. Can anyone please tell me what to expect as far as testing when it comes to applying with any transcription companies. I need to leave the Q in the worst kind of way before this company drives me totally crazy! Thanks for your help.
Testing

When I worked for MQ a few years back, their pedal worked with Express Scribe. (free download) or if you have USB pedal such as an Infiniti, use it with Express Scribe.

testing
Yes, I agree. I totally ask how much they pay before hand. I have never run into any problems. Why spend so much time testing to get told you will be paid 4cpl!
Testing
Their testing is hard to pass!!!
testing

Phoenix will be glad to test you at anytime.  We receive 100's of resumes a week and all applicants who have the experience necessary are replied to.  If you did not receive the testing information, just email hr@phoenixmedcom.com and we will be happy to send you the testing information.  Some emails are returned as undeliverable as well, so there is nothing that can be done about this.

Testing
On their site, there's a link to click to take the test. Be prepared to spend 45 minutes to over an hour. There are multiple choice questions and transcribing. I went ahead and did it today just to get it out of the way if they do call.
Testing.
I am recently going through this testing process and what is send my resume with a note asking them if they could tell me what their pay scale is before I do the testing. That way, if they are only going to give you 7 cpl and it is unacceptable to you, you haven't wasted all your time doing the tedious testing. Also, 3 or 4 companies I applied do actually didn't even have me do the testing, saw my experience, talked with me on the phone, and offered me the position! Good Luck!
on the testing, but
They have a tier'd pay rate on production and 3 different sets based on employee with insurance, employee without insurance, and IC.

like 6 cpl to 7 cpl for up to 3000 lines, a bit more for up to 6000 lines, and a bit more for all lines over 6000.. 8-9.5 perhaps. No shift differential, no weekend pay. No holiday pay.
