These companies offering IC status need to understand that as an IC, they are considered a client just like any other and cannot make you work when you don't want to or can't for some other reason.  They need to find p.r.n. coverage for the times that the IC cannot commit to the job.  This really is insane how companies abuse ICs in this field. 


You should in no way feel guilty about taking time off.  It's their worry to find another IC to do the work while you're away.  So how much fun are you going to have on your vacation worrying about whether or not the company you IC for is stuck or not? 


Also, don't think for a minute if the company were to lose the client that they wouldn't cut you lose in a heartbeat anyway.
