I think it depends on experience, account hired for, etc. I was hired at .08 per line sm
but after 90 days went to 0.085 and then 0.09 about 90 days after that. I am now at 0.0925 and have been there a year. I have to point out that the line rate might not be the highest but I can verify my counts, have plenty of work, get paid on time and have a great manager. To me, leaving a bad national and the headaches that went with it was well worth the cut in pay I took. Funny thing is that I took a pretty sizable pay cut but make more money ?!?!

I am on an account that is determined by TAT, not set hours.
I find the sound quality not so great on some accounts. I guess it depends on what account you get

the difficulty of the acct dictates your line rate; PT vs FT doesn't really matter. Acute care varies from 8-9.5 CPL, plus production (bonus) incentives and shift differential.

When you first start, 100% of your work goes to QA until you are released on that acct. Afterwards it seems to depend on the acct as to how often you are reviewed. 98% or above is required but there is a detailed policy about mentoring, etc, posted for us to review.

Yes, you have access to older reports by doctor or by patient in real-time, as well as samples posted for reference on the community page.


I think it depends on the account. I have one account that pays sm
$2.25 for specials and one that pays $3.50. I was on one previously that did not pay them different at all, but they were all short and mostly PICC line placements.

I worked for a hospital that went to KS and they were not charging extra for the specials. I know what they charged per report, and there was no way they were getting rich on the difference after taxes and all that. I was suprised. I was in on the bid review and the average to charge was between $1.75 and $2.75 per report or 0.13 and 0.15 per line. There were 15 companies that bid on the account, and all were within those ranges.

I went to KS about 6 months after the hospital outsourced to them. When we were displaced, I accepted a different job in the hospital and hated it.

The two radiology accounts I was hired for
at Transtech immediately disappeared after much difficulty getting set up. Not blaming TT per se but not giving them high marks, either. Would suggest you ask questions to determine if any Radiology position is dependable - stay away from the Powerscribe jobs.

Just my experience so take the above with a grain of salt - others may have all positives..

They are hiring 100 MTs for it.  My training date is still open as I just told her I would be available after a certain date.  They are hiring people beforehand to let them get used to their platform, then will transition them to the new account when it comes mid July.  The account is 1000+ beds.

The Northeast has been hit hard by flooding. My accounts are all in areas that have roads washed out or under water, so I doubt that patients will want to venture out until things get better.

you are hired to do??? I am not totally sure. The ad I am reading states flexible schedule, IC or full time, nothing about Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat.

wouldn't it be easier for you to ask them at the office if the acct has started, if not when, if it has, ask for a backup.  Coming here and complaining does no good.

All of my accounts have been over loaded with work this past month. I'm currently doing 2500 lines a day. Maybe your friend should ask about getting more backup accounts added to her queue.

I have been running in and out, but still manage to work a full day. Absolutely love it here.
When I hired on they stated the account was listed as 30-35% ESL (sm)
but they thought the percentage might be a litte higher. I have had quite a few ESL, probably closer to 45-50%, but only one was what I considered really horrible and when I went back, QA had left some blanks too, so I didn't feel too bad.

Have been doing this for 20+ years and I still say I would rather have an ESL anyday compared to a mushmouthed speed demon.

So far everything about them and the account I am on has held true to what they said. Very nice people, good sound quality and the program is easy to work on.

WebmedX got the account. I was hired by them today for

the account.   I was also told by another company that they had bid on the account themselves and were told by the account that they were not going to renew with QT.  This was SEVERAL months ago.   Some people have been called about another account that was lost in addition to the big one.

Me too, just hired on, and already the account I am on had very little work over the weekend.
Hope this is just a fluke and its not like this daily.
I think a lot depends on your account...
and your supervisor. I currently work for them, just got a better offer from another company, so I'll be quitting shortly. My account is like 95% ESL, but I do get a 20% bonus for working it. I'm not sure it's worth it, though, because I could more than make up for that bonus on a better account and with far less frustration.

My supervisor is pretty flexible, mostly because she ignores you. I can count on one hand the number of times she has responded to my email on the first try. She won't do a damn thing about the cherrypicking.

I have a friend who works on another team who's happy as a clam, though. But, she has a great account and her supervisor rocks.

They do not penalize you for dropping below on quality.

$1.10 on one account and $1.25 on another. I think that they come out even though when I put them up hour by hour. I do about 1700 reports a pay period (2 weeks) but I work 6 days for my 40 hours. My hands complain if I sit for 8 hours a day so I spread it out and it helps them because I cover Saturday and Sunday and shorter days Mon, Tue and Wed.

I dont have trouble unless I have a bad day getting all ESLs. Some days I can get all the great dictators, but then there are bad days.

There are 2 platforms so I am not sure about the other platform.

I am on a Smartsource account, hospital employee (not DR employee), and work only on my one account.  I have never been happier and am making lots of $$. Benefits are as good as I had with an in-house job, very affordable.   Management does have high turnover for some reason, but hasn't really affected me negatively.  QA is wonderful. 


If you work for DR directly, it is like any other MTSO out there.  You will probably work on several accounts at a time and get moved around (a lot harder to get in lines and make any $$).   


One plus is that they pay an hourly wage for downtime (computer issues, no work, etc).  Haven't had to use this hardly at all, but it is nice if you need it.

average. One account is all ESL but that is separate from the regular system. Sound quality is as good as any. Company is nice to work for. Work is not overly plentiful though.

Radiology usually has tons of work. The company is has taken on some new accounts lately, and is taking on a couple more in the near future. If you are assigned to a newer account right from the start, you shouldn't have to worry about workload. Good radiology MTs are always in demand.

I love the program.  I had very thorough training.  The pay is another thing.  I feel it is low and you don't get paid for spaces.  As everywhere else, there is good and bad.  Pay is always on time and direct deposit.  Very nice people to work with.

and what type of reports you do.  Some are harder and some have more templates, etc.  If you do fewer doctors you can get a better count and not so many different hospitals.  Also, I think the big MT companies don't pay as well as getting your own accounts.  The problem with having your own accounts is you are responsible for everything.  If you have a computer problem, doctor problem, need vacation, whatever, no tech department, no vacation, etc.  Taxes can be a headache also and I always paid more taxes running my own business.  I work for a large national now and if I apply myself, it is much better than on my own.  I don't have to buy my own equipment, if it breaks or I have problems, tech takes care of it.  Also the taxes are easier and I pay less percentage.  I think if you are working for a company, I would approach them and tell them you aren't making enough.  You might need to find another fit, another company, maybe your own accounts, or maybe just in the company you work for they can find you something different that you can make better money for.

When I worked for them, I wasn't literally required to punch a time clock, but I had set hours and I was expected to be typing during that time (and way, WAY beyond).

At least, that was the case when I worked there (I left in February 2007). The account I had used a C-phone and required me to have unlimited long distance. But I know not all of their accounts are that way.


KS has good benefits, offers direct deposit and pays on time. As far as pay scale, I feel they are a little on the low side, but it depends on what your specialty is.


The problem I had with them was with my lead, not the company itself. And I believe she is no longer a lead. So I would say give them a try, but definitely negotiate for higher pay if you have the training and experience.

2400 per day is a tad high requirement I think but is doable.

Some accounts are internet-based and use ExText, and a lot of others require a C-phone with unlimited long distance service.

Dictaphone has many MTSOs subcontract from them. So, when they get an account or have an existing account, they subcontract and take a certain percentage of the income. Sometimes, when you see new companies pop up that use DP ExText, in most cases, they just contracted with Dictaphone.

applying for. Most hospitals require drug testing and a physical exam and background checks .. the Expander thing got me .. you cannot add your own on some of these accounts and must use auto correct. Not in my lifetime .. my shortcuts are my ticket to a good paycheck. Bad enough to start something new but to type long hand so to speak, no thanks!!

I started on a primary, then secondary accounts at Amphion. They ran out of work, so they added a tertiary and so on until I reached 6 accounts, all with different provider requests that you have to learn. And your pay IS based upon your quarterly QA score, some of which is unfairly docked because of having to learn so many account preferences. There are the lucky ones there who get the good accounts, and those who work at Amphion know the good accounts I am talking about. But the new peeps to Amphion just get tastes of the good accounts. ESLs were average, but sound quality was poor (re-recorded). People were nice, they don't offshore, but too much BS to get any good line count there.

I was hired to do mainly OPs and it's a rare day I help out on other work types. If OPs only is really important to you, make sure you are being hired on an account with a high volume of OPs and then just hope for the best, I guess.

I have been there for 3-1/2 years now and the growth last year was typical. KS has grown steadily since I started. I think they are still personal.

If you don't think so, try contacting Becky or Lee or Karyn and explain how you feel. They will jump through hoops to fix it. I think that they are back to being personal again compared to a year ago.

Best change ever was the email I got about the IS person a week ago. I refused to work with her, as did many, many others. She was rude and nasty.

Other good change was the new person in charge of staffing and Laura coming back to HR.

On my present account, I average 2,000+ lines per 80 minutes of dictation.  So, if I were paid by the minute, I would make 65-75% less than I make being paid per line.  For me, it definitely would not be worth it.

I work on an account where I have to meet the TAT and that is it...no set schedule...so that is flexible in my opinion..plus if you are not happy on an account they do everything possible to find a good match for you...also flexibility...

They have a overflow clinic account that they say has a ton of work - I work on a hospital account that seems to really only have work on the weekends, but tons of work on the weekend.


I do not take their benefits, so I cannot speak much to that - but weekend work there is a lot of - and that overflow clinic work I think there is a lot of work all week long.


They have been good folks to me and understand when family stuff happens.  I have enjoyed the folks for the couple of years I have worked with them.

Some accounts will need people to work mornings, some afternoons, and some evenings. We don't go by set hours to define the different shifts since every account has different needs.
