Not the discharge summary position
I just tested for acute care. My appointment was set for Monday, so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it doesn't get changed. :)
KS summary

I guess it boils down to the luck of the draw (not skills).  You will either double your line count and be happy, or you will lose a lot of money.  If you are a gambler, your odds are 50/50! Fair statement?

Good Summary but

don't forget the advice about not putting all your eggs in one basket ( I could count the months that I worked solely for one service as an IC, or even as an employee )

and

dont forget the advice about not quitting your day job.

I wish you well!

Good summary. I would add....

Quite honestly, I think medical transcription is a dying field. With advances in voice recognition software, eventually the only jobs available for transcriptionists will be editing reports created with VR software. In Oklahoma City (near where I live), the Integris hospital system has already gone to VR software, and they only employ about five transcriptionists for two huge hospitals, a huge rehabilitation center, and many other smaller facilities.

No, VR may not take over the field in my lifetime,  at least during my working lifetime (I'm in my 50s).  But it is not a field that I would advise someone in their 20s or 30s to go into.

Just something to think about.....

Excellent summary! Kudos!
I couldn't have said it better. I am cautiously thinking our stock might go up down the road because the brick and mortar schools are slowly dropping MT training from their curriculum. No more ads on TV about going into MT. So those of that are left and haven't run for the hills may be at a premium soon. I've seen it before back in the 70s when we were paid too low and we all just walked off the job. Maybe they will get a clue before we do that again.

H&Ps, discharge summaries, consults, OPs (nm)

H & Ps, consults, op notes, and discharge summaries. nm

I used it for the same things, psych reports and discharge summaries...
where it was hard to create shortcuts for the reports. For the time period I used it, it was not that much faster, but it was a much needed break on my hands so the rest of my dictation was faster and more comfortable.
The basic 4's are: history and physical, consultation, operations, discharge summaries. sm
Radiology is not one of them. Sorry, but I don't have an answer for the strictly radiology question.

Are you looking at same backlog I am? sm
There are literally hundreds of jobs available now on a number of different accounts.  What you need to do is discuss with your STM getting on some of these accounts.
At least you can see the backlog report
NM
You are SO right..the least backlog and emails fly. Overstaffed now for sure. nm
nm
Or what about when you get the e-mails that there is too much backlog and D will have to hire..sm
more MTs if you don't get it cleaned up and then you dial into your 3 accounts only to hear requested dictation completed. I don't understand this and it is very frustrating and
Did anyone else stop getting backlog emails?
Usually get an email from the account liason in the mornings plus backlog reports through the day and then suddenly I get no email at all from them.  But I can still log on and work.  I know they were changing the email system and I got the email last week sometime I think asking if they had the correct email address, and to let them know if not, but then I stopped getting emails!
Yes there is a major backlog on that account
nm
Why is that Rah Rah? Don't you check the backlog page?
I get tired of ppl who shoot down every positive post when they are TRUE....
Not my C-phone account. Just got a backlog report

...always a backlog by the client. If it ever gets cleaned up, you have no work for that day. This

For some of us, it can last all day. Just look at the Acct Backlog page, especially on the weekend.
Maybe we all have the same supervisor. Don't know. Can you have accounts that are under more than 1 STM?
The backlog page doesn't always show all the OT - sm
Beg to differ - my STM just send her daily update saying you could work extra on about 6 different accounts. I saw another STM this morning saying the same thing in her update. So sorry if I offended you.

One person's experience is not everyone else's. If you are limited to only radiology, no wonder you are out of work.
what are you talking about - there is a huge backlog on the oncology account....
they are even offering bonuses to help get the work load into TAT. What account are you on and what center are you talking about?
According to Allstate, they have a new account and have over 1500 jobs in backlog, is this not true?
What's the real scoop?
Low work?? Hmm - check backlog page - lots of OT offered right now. nm
Are you on the ChartMatrix side mebbe?
I'll check that our. I mostly stare in disbelief at the Acct Backlog Page.
Disgusting. I'm disgruntled, too. Just got an E-mail asking for help from some newbie on my secondary on which there are only a couple dozen jobs. My primary is out and my STM will not give me a 3rd. I had a 3rd, but we lost that hospital in June. Sick of it.
