They are not worth the bother.

After they are extremely nice and you get hired, they suddenly begin treating you poorly.  I guarantee you will be placed on an account that forces you to work weekends and they call you on days off.  That is how they operate.  They also dump tons of operative notes on you that are VERY time consuming because they are dicated by residents who do not give the proper patient information.  You spend most of your time doing detective work and NOT typing - which is what you get paid to do.  They also teach against the AAMT book of style which is the incorrect way to learn if you are a newbie and will do you more harm than good in your future MT jobs!  They are very demeaning to their MTs.  Glad I'm out of there!

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.

You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
TRUST me when I say...It is not worth your time, even part-time..

I hired on with them part-time on or about September 8, kept getting run around as to when I was to actually start transcribing. Team lead emailed to say she had a very very good account for me to start on.  I was trained 25 minutes. Then, there was an issue with my ID and password to get into the system.  After about 2 weeks, got ID and password, but it didn't work.  Then I get an email from another supervisor advising that I would be on another account and they seen the specs. So, I get an email some time around the first of October saying I can start typing.  In the meantime, Focus has a MT Forum, and I'm reading all these negative remarks from the MTs stating a lack of communication company wide, to the terrible QA department being not all on the same page, and being deducted points for blanks and such.  By this time, I was exhausted from waiting, and exhausted from hearing all the complaints from the MTs actually working there, that I sent an email to team lead saying, I had changed my mind about working there.  This is the most chaotic, disorganized, miscommunicated place I have ever seen in my entire 32 years of being an MT.   (If there are any errors in this forgive me.  Don't feel like proofing this)

that is sad, you're right, NO job is worth all that
/
You're not missing all that much. Not worth
being anxious over. I know they hire NJ MTs, so it must be a specific hospital account that won't let NJers in. They are often the middle man, or third party, or pain in the neck, between a hospital account and an MT. It sounded great on paper, but was not fun once working. Good luck.
at 12 years you're worth 13-14

Doubt it....  It all depends on what aspect of this business you are in.  If you work for a company, you are worth what rate they are willing to pay with or without many years of experience.  The experience helps in that you can get through reports quicker.

However, is then someone with 5 years of experience only worth 7 cpl?  Who knows he answer to that question?

If you have an MTSO, you set your own rate dependent upon what is expected from you by the client.  When you are an employee, you are paid what they consider the going rate which is usually very low.  You then must produce as much as possible.  I'm glad the MTSOs have QA because if I had to spend more than a few minutes on research, I'd leave a blank.

In the old days, the doctor reviewed the reports and filled in the blanks.  What happened to that?

We "think" we're worth more? We are!
In any other profession knowledge, skills and experience are worth more - not less!  Regardless of what MTSOs want to think, this is NOT assembly line work that any trained monkey or person off the street can do!  I defy the geniuses in management to actually type one horrendous ESL mess after another for an 8 hours shift like we do...and then let them say what the job should pay!
Your "Two Cents" is probably what you're worth per line.

not worth my time
I wasn't justifying myself not to the likes of you at least.. I was trying to point out to you just how judgmental and uneducated your are in a way that maybe you could understand without me attacking you, which seems to be your area of expertise....

I will say it now so even someone like you can understand..it wasn't that I didn't understand what you said, it was that I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you surely can't be that ugly..and trying to point out to you reasonably how judgmental you are..I see you missed that point too...I guess for someone like you who lives by the hammer it was just a little too finessed for you to comprehend..

thanks for verifying everything I said about you...

I don't plan to waste any more time on you...
No talking travel.MT worth is our time. MDI does not

I tried several other companies, good ones, but it was like regressing in time! Not worth it!
You won't be shuffling thru papers, trying to find doctors names, etc.  Its a fast platform. I never realized how much I loved it til I tried "greener pastures", which sure were not greener! Felt like the horse with my head stuck thru the fence, but luckily I got back in my own pasture! There's no place like home, there's no place like home...Good luck to you!!
Any company not meeting payroll on time is not worth it.
I wouldn't wait around. There is no excuse for them not to meeting payroll once, much less twice.

WWWaah. I used to make good money til the health problems hit, now it seems hardly worth my time!

you're not alone - been doing this a long time
but every slow down, expected or not, causes anxiety - I think we all feel more anxious now than we used to because we know the work is being done electronically and offshore.  I got a second job just to try to save money for the lean times and emergencies.  Only one provider in this household - nervewracking!  I think you hear a little anxiety in the other posters' replies too - they are trying to reassure themselves in the process.  This holiday seems to be worse than I remember it, this is more like Christmas and Thanksgiving!  People must be really taking off!  Imagine that.
Long-Time MT, you're so very right ...
I'm one of the MT's still on straight transcribing and after having my primary transferred to PI and having the majority of decent work either going to ASR or being outshored I'm struggling every day just to try to make a below minimum line count.  My paychecks have been nothing short of pitiful.  It's so frustrating.
Don't waste your time - they're a mess
.
3rd time's a charm or 3 strikes you're out
Another childish travel tale, thanks for telling about it! LOL
Sorry, you're weakening your argument big-time. nm
for your lack of discipline in saving. But for legal purposes, they should be taking the taxes out.
You're not. VR = same amount of time for less money.

Sounds like you're gettin' ripped BIG TIME!

Comment from December says they're understaffed and overwhelmed, no time for their MTs.nm
.
Seems you're spending more UNPAID time/work e-mailing..sm

and xeroxing as if you were sitting there with no work.

You aren't wasting your time, you're investing in a potential "yes!"
As to why you don't get a response, it might be for one or some of the reasons below, or none of them:

a. You don't meet clearly-stated qualifications. I delete every resume or application that doesn't meet standards required. If you can't follow instructions, don't expect me to take time out of my busy day to spend time on explaining this to you.

b. You're an Indian pretending to be an American. Again, I'm not wasting Keystrokes on you.

c. Your application is filled with errors. Maybe the dead silence from recruiters is a message to go back and review what you've put out there.

d. Maybe your application got overlooked. It has happened. Email the recruiter. If you don't get a response, review a, b, and c above and e below.

e. Maybe the recruiter is swamped. There are days when 10 hours will fly by and I've hardly had time to breath. There are applications to look at, resumes to review, tests to score, interviews to schedule, paperwork to complete, interviews to do, reports to file, fires to put out, and someone has to beat the tech people/MT supe upside the head to get them to call an irate MT, who feels that YOU are responsible for her every woe and calls 6 times a day to tell you about it.

From a recruiter POV, don't put your experience on page 4 under everything else you've done. I don't care that you work in the church nursery, or that you drive bus, or that you swept floors at Mitzi's Kut n Kurl. Don't make me wade through all that to find out if you can do the job I'm trying to hire for. I suspect I've tossed good resumes because I don't have time to read someone's life story before getting to the information I need. I also don't want to know your parent's names and professions (why do Indians do this?).

So, if you don't get a response you can either call or email, or just move on. It's not necessarily a rejection of you, but rather the reality of a busy society.
Nope, more like a matter of time before we're all working for chump change.

Better be glad you got the easier dictators soon, because you're time is coming for the ^^^REAL^^

dictators!  Be glad you got off now.  I wondered where my better dictators went the last week or so !!!!!  Lucky you !!!!!

I can always tell when the TT favorite MT's are off, because I get their dictators -- making it easier for me to get my line count. Yea !

TT is constantly hiring, so the above scenario is a norm.

"Taking up valuable time of MTSO." You're digging deep now!

Amphion hires part-time - they're very strict schedule-wise though
Since part time is so hard to find these days your options are limited, so if you don't mind working for a company that is a stickler for strict schedule adherence, I say try Amphion.
Would it bother you as much....sm
if the AAMT meeting had been held in Detroit or Cleveland or some other place that was not as, shall we say, vacation like?

The management of MW (and any other company for that matter) who went to the AAMT meeting did so as a part of their job. Their job is to watch the industry, make contacts and interact with other companies in the industry to try to better our working conditions and further our ability to do our jobs, just as our job is to transcribe and edit reports and learn all we can to improve ourselves and the work we do. Whether you like it or not, there is a separation between MTs and management and a separation between what we do and what they do. Don't like it? You have a couple of options here. You can work on improving yourself and making a name for yourself with your company as a trustworthy and valuable employee and rise to the ranks of management and then have the opportunity to be sent to the AAMT meetings or you can work hard, put some money aside, join AAMT and go on your own.....or you could just continue to sit there and bellyache about it. The choice is yours. The meeting next year is to be held in Queensland on Australia's Gold Coast. Better start saving up now.
TRS - don't bother
I talked with the recruiter in October and he could not explain their pay rate and/or guide that is used.  It is very confusing and they have a very difficult time keeping people.
Don't bother with them.
They're trouble.
Don't take the job if you think it will bother you
I hated working for them just for that reason.
Don't bother!
I did not like that company whatsoever. Office manager was not nice.
Don't bother!
This company is a nightmare. I live in New Jersey. Constant turnover. Horrible management. They advertise over and over again. That should tell you something about them. They cannot keep somebody for more than a week. Do not even waste your time with this place! You will be sorry!
why bother
Some companies think that just because you have those 3 little letters behind your name you know more than any other MT. This is far from true, it only means those people paid the outrageous price to test and passed the test. I started a part-time job over 2 years ago and the company refused to pay me what I was actually worth because I didnt have CMT behind my name. Even though I have 18+ years' experience as a Transcriptionist and Editor they refused to pay me the 2 dollars more an hour that the CMTs were getting. So I did the same work and somebody with less experience but with the CMT got more money than me. Needless to say I have since left that company.
Why do they bother?
I was contacted by a company to work for them.  I told them exactly the days I could work and how much I was willing to work.  When they sent work for the weekend, I explained to them that I do not work weekends.  Well, I did not hear from them again.  Tried contacting them Monday.  Tried sign on Monday and was locked out.  Did not get a email until Tuesday afternoon stating my quality was just not good enough.  I've been at this for 15 years!
Don't bother...

Maybe I'm just not what she's looking for, but she emailed me back and said the positions were filled.

If they were, that was pretty fast!

Don't bother. They still run out of
schedule but there's never enough work to do that.  It's the same one account and it's still APEX.  Same crappy dictators.  The disorganization in the office is getting worse every day.  As far as QA it depends on what QA person you happen to get.  Difference is night and day.  If I was already out and had the choice to make I'd never look back.  I'm probably leaving after the new year so you can always have my place
Okay, thanks! Will not bother then! no msg
xxx
Run... why bother to beg?
Oh my gosh, please just apply to a company that will appreciate you and stop coming across as a beggar...  Please save us the dignity...  There are soooo many companies to choose from.  Why would you want a job with a place that never even returns a phone call???????  Tell me why???????????  I've been doing this for over 20 years, and I hope to never be in your position with all of that experience on this board begging to work for a particular company.... Why are you doing that?  How sad!
Don't bother
If you like spending $100 for equipment for a job that you don't know will work out, spending all day at your computer waiting for work that may or may not be there, trying to type 20+ files in 2 hours because all the dictation was loaded at the same time, having your line rate cut to help support the MTSO's lifestyle, then this job may be for you.
Why does it bother you what I say? sm
Not the business for me? Sounds like its not the business for the poster or you either. I have been in this business I am quite sure longer than you have and I still make very good money. I guess that could be because I am not worrying about what the MTSOs charge and I just sit and do my work and make my money.

Why do you care?

BTW, not the business for your? Hmmmmmm You are the one who is bent out of shape and defensive and stressed! Good Lord!
why does it bother you what sm
she says? Does it strike a raw nerve? She hasn't said anything that isn't true yet.
I won't even bother to answer this.

It's "misspelled." And most don't bother with
nm
I agree, don't bother...

The pay is low. It's based on multiple factors including QA, lines per hour and how much of your work you send to QA. I actually didn't mind the low pay because (at the time) the staff was very friendly. It's when they started the training in Trinidad that my warm feelings for this company started to sour. My feelings for them completely soured when they announced that they would be training people in Guiana as well. I don't approve of the offshoring of medical records (and American jobs) to other countries, however, the fact that they put a humanitarian spin on it is what really did it for me and I left just a few months ago after being there for about a year.

I wouldn't bother if I were you,
not very nice owner.
When I tell people, it really seems to bother them
It even freaks some of them out, especially in light of electronic identity theft and no way to enforce U.S. law of confidential records in other countries. Some woman in Pakistan actually threatened a hospital in California with putting patient records on the internet! Claims that software is made so it cannot be saved on the computer are bull: It can be copied and pasted or even written down by the MT and passed on. Here it's a felony and we're accountable. Not there. It does scare people when you tell them that. And it should. I just don't think many people are aware, realize the ramifications of it, or know what to do about it.

They all will be. Do they even bother recruiting in US
xx
I agree, don't bother
Now i never had the tech issues but i was IMed to death and just flat out got annoyed.  Didn't get my last check either even long after returning their foot pedal.  That is one company that definitely does not have it together
Why bother answering at all
if you are a no thanks?

WHAT PART OF WHO WOULD *SUPPORT*... was confusing?

:)
