I'm really surprised they chose you

I've read your posts about TT and they seem rather rational and benign. I wonder why they would choose you over, say, that one who posts on here in all caps saying they are 'stealing' her lines and other rants which could be construed as libelous if she has no proof of her claims.

I'm sitting here kind of shaking my head wondering why they picked you, unless you were the most easily identifiable.

Is anyone else named in the suit, or is it just you?

Why I chose MT....
plain and simple I wanted to be home for my children...I worked in-house before I worked at home and am so glad to be working at home...the pros definitely outway the cons....My husband works in sales/delivery and his bennies are awesome..only pays about 30.00 a week for the 4 of us...I am able to work part-time right now because of him...will eventually go back to full-time and more money when my baby is a bit older, only 12 weeks old now...
not sure who you chose but...
Webmedx was wonderful...I worked for them before having my children and absolutely loved them...I needed to cut hours way back so I resigned but I hope to go back as soon as my kids are older.
No they can't just no you can chose to say no to

You are working for them so the client is their client and not yours, hence they can say when they want the work done, but you can say no, I won't do it then.  So then, they look for someone else.  Unfortunate, but true especially in this profession.  Setting hours goes against my grain as an IC.  I stay away from those types of positions.  Set hours/days, etc. are for employees not ICs, but you can chose not to take their offer.

You should of chose a better
husband if you wanted to be SAHM, plain and simple. Don't play the women's libber's. Where do you live, Utah?
Why do you think because you chose to
work 3rd shift that everyone should? Should we not have a choice? Why force your own choices on everyone else? Should we all freak on you because you say you don't work weekends? It's the same thing... Live and let live....

If was YOU who chose to take on those duties. sm
And it is YOU who decided to take on these duties.  If all owners of transcription companies, big and small, would demand higher pay from clients, and not try to undercut each other, they could pay higher wages.  And don't moan about then jobs would be offshored.  If clients had to get these jobs straight from overseas with no US editing, offshoring would stop immediately.
You are welcome, I chose IC at Medware
as I do not need the insurance.  Plus I have always been an IC and I feel more comfortable with that than being an employee, not only at Medware but at other places.  I stay busy at Medware so they definately have the work.  It's what works best for me right now.
Why I chose transcription..

First off, I do not have a spouse or a significant other.

I went back to a local college to take a transcription course for a few reasons.  First, I was working for a credit reporting agency for $5.00 an hour (15 years ago), and to put it bluntly, found out I just could not deal working with the public, especially in the setting where a good percentage of the people you deal with are irate.  One of my coworkers mentioned medical transcription, and it sounded perfect for me.  I could sit in my own little corner, do my work, and be left alone for the most part.  Plus, where I live it is super cheap to live and I was making a lot more money than I did before, allowing me to save up and have a down payment for my house.  I had the opportunity back then to type nothing but ERs and I took full advantage of it, working 6 days a week, and there was never a shortage of work.

It was never my choice to work at home.  I do miss the interaction with and meeting new people through work.  Now I never see an ER note, the work keeps getting tougher with more ESL's, and the pay is going down along with the benefits.  Also, someone in India is now typing my favorite account.

I chose transcription

because I loved the medical field (worked at 2 hospitals in the admissions department), but was tired of the politics at work, and having to work with 20+ hormonal, gossipy women in one department.  I also wanted something with less patient contact - it was heartbreaking getting to know someone who came in every day for radiation treatments or something similar, and finding out that they only had 2 weeks to live or something.  It was awful!  SO, I started looking into transcription as something I could do from home - which is perfect for me too, because now I can work all day by myself  (with my dogs to keep me company).  I don't mind working at home all day without people contact - I almost prefer it that way.  I have become a less stressed person for it.

My DH worked as a truck driver/heavy equipment operator before, but needed to find something less stressful on his body.  He had built me a massage table for my birthday after we first got married (almost 8 years ago), and then took a course in massage at the local college.  He loved it, and decided that was what he wanted to do full-time; so he went to school for it, and now he has his own business as a massage therapist.  As he is self-employed, he doesn't get any benefits, so we have individual insurance coverage for both of us.  I am actually going to be working for a new company soon that does offer some benefits, so I will at least be covered under group coverage.  He will continue with the individual coverage, as it is cheaper.

why I chose transcription
I actually swore I would never do transcription after going through a tech school for Medical Secretary diploma. Hated it. Only job I could find was transcription. I actually left the field for a few years to work at a bank. But then, when I had to take that beautiful baby daughter of mine to a sitter 45 hours a week, I decided to come back to transcription (never left it COMPLETELY, always Filled in), so I could be home with our kids. It was important to both my husband and I, but could not handle it financially without me working. I would not trade it for the world, as I have seen my kids through everything. I know my children, they know me, they know they can come to me. I am there every morning and every afternoon . . . would not miss these memories for the world. It got REALLY tought at times, but well worth it. It's all about the children.
glad I chose JLG over KS

Landmark vs MDI...which do I chose?

Landmark only does transcription which is a positive IMO. I would be doing only operative notes (which is my favorite work type) and would be an IC so my schedule would be flexible. No required line count per day. The only thing holding me back is I'm afraid of running out of work (I'm coming from MQ where I have a cesspool to chose from and rarely run out). I would be working on Bayscribe. I could also work 4 days a week (I'm part-time).

I also have an interview next week with MDI. For some reason I have a sense with them it's more secure. Maybe because I see more posts about them and that they are a larger company?

Thanks!

If you need benefits, you chose correctly.

I chose to stick with Clinic.....sm
because, in my experience, they are almost always closed or at least very, very slow on holidays.

So, over the years I decided I wanted a M-F schedule with holidays off. That's why I stick with Clinic notes.

Good luck!
Well there are other MTs who just applied that have said they have to clock in and out and chose
not to get into that so not sure why some do and some dont.  Maybe different recruiters.  Cant answer that.
Have any of you MDI employees lost your job or chose.. sm
to leave since they switched some accounts to VR?  I was thinking of applying but unsure now after reading about the VR switch on some accounts.  I wondered how many employees are affected by it and whether or not to consider applying as I am only interested in straight transcription and not VR.
well if you chose to work for a company sm
where you had to find your own replacement that was your choice. This poster did not and she should not be treated like that.

You sound like you are bitter because of your situation. Don't push it off on this poster. Folks like you are the kind that run these companies that treat people like this. I ahve worked in-house with folks like you and that is why I got out of in-house years and years ago! Never regretted it and have made a good living all these years.
sorry...if I chose not to take the benefits as I don't need them. Never heard back. nm

OK - your other post said you chose this account because of the challenge

A job is not an afterthought to me. I had a FT MT job before my children and CHOSE to work PT so I

can enjoy them.  I think anyone with children can understand that.  I do take my job seriously and work and am a high producer.  I enjoy my job but I also enjoy my other FT job, which is my children!

This year they chose one that really is a good company to work for. nm
nm
Wrong. Companies chose to or not to offshore work, nobody makes them. sm
My company does not offshore work, absolutely will not. We've actually gained/kept accounts assuring clients that we do not. We have many clients, cutting edge technology for both customer and employee, a healthy growth rate and a high MT retention rate. It's not impossible to have a successful USA-only based company. Sadly that may not be the norm anymore, but it's a choice MTSO/CEOs (whatever they may be) make and in my opinion maybe cutting some of the bottom line and offshoring is being done in place of producing a high quality of work that keeps a customer happy and not looking around for other service options. Subsequently I think these companies then suffer inferior work further because they are paying less and/or maybe have contractural obligations. Personally I'd like to think they'd still prefer high quality to low prices and inferior product. I have to wonder if these offshore companies are losing just as many accounts because of their product. I just know I am glad I work for a company who doesn't outsource, doesn't plan to, and has every intention to remain successful because quality does count.
I have talked to MANY DSG workers who are badly treated. I chose to move on when I had enough!
Feel sorry for those who are miserable and stay anyway.
That is one of many reasons why I chose to work at home! No thanks to in-house! Good luck. nm

Most of them do - You would be surprised.....
how many are doing it that have not come out.
I am surprised a lot of the MTs
at Heartland did not follow Tracy to Transtech.
I'm surprised
about Trinidad because their website states they do not outsource.  They seem to be very family oriented and all that as well from what I read.  I do know the accounts have 12-hour windows and the scheduling is flexible within that time frame.
I was surprised
that it was mentioned that they pay some of the MTs in India as independent contractors.
With what I know of them, I would not be surprised
about anything that they do.
Why are you surprised?
What are the names of some professional organizations who require that you live in the US in order to join?
Are you surprised???
They don't care if you have work or not. Their only concern is keeping the reports within TAT. They don't care if you quit as a result. They will just post more ads here and more suckers will apply and get hired to take your place. DSG is the pits.
Really? I'm surprised because
work has been really slow on all my internet accounts for well over a month and I've not been able to make lines. But I love MDI, so I'm hanging in there.
Are you surprised?
I would guess that 90% of MTSOs read this board. They would be dumb not to know what is being said about their companies.

This is a public board that most MTSOs know about. There are probably just as many MTSO owners/managers/and other suits on this board as there are MTs.

If you'd notice, YOU are the only person who posts here with your full name. Most people know that MTSOs read these posts.
not surprised
How do you find things out like this?
I wish I could say that surprised me, but...
sadly I can't. So many things about this industry seem to be going down the tubes.

I first got into this because it seemed so secure. After all, people are always going to need doctors - right?

That part is still true; unfortunately, though, those doctors don't seem to need us anymore.

I wonder if anything is going to be able to pull us out of this awful downward spiral we all seem to be trapped in.
I'm not surprised
Watch out - they are vague about everything, and expect you to magically know everything then fuss at you or terminate you when your QA is 100% after a week. One friend who worked for them was done that way. they are rude jerks as well.
I am really surprised - sm

You do not have to associate yourselves with AHDI. There is information on how to contact your state representative.  There are other links there.  I am not a supporter of AHDI, but I thought you would see that that information is useful.  It is convenient.  Get off your duffs and write!  A lot of good it's doing you to get on this board and slam AHDI.  So what?  Not exactly constructive behavior.  I would be willing to bet that not one of you who has responded has done anything but whine and form and share useless opinions.

Not surprised
I contacted them about a Rad position, they said it was filled. Then they called back and said there was an opening, to take the test. After I did this and passed, I was then told there was no opening. Question: Do recruiters make commission on each person test and interviewed?

Not surprised in the least.
ccc
I'm somehow not surprised but....
Have you also tried to email D and your liaison and anyone else in the upper ranks to see where all the work went? If you've read the thread below, you'll see several of us have tried but our emails go totally ignored.

I'm also wondering if you and Fatcat are on the same account(s). Out of the blue her accounts were quite suddenly chock-full last night and we kind of suspected that work would disappear today.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. If it's any consolation, know that you are most assuredly not alone in your catfish, bottom-feeder feelings. We're all right there with you.
What are you surprised about? I know several MTs and
There is nothing wrong with this. It is on the American compound. It is a tax-free (or at least it used to be) excursion. You sign a contract. They pay for your round-trip travel there/back at the beginning and end of your contract plus usually 2-3 more trips within the year. They usually provide paid housing on the compound, etc.

?

Not surprised
I am with you. I think you have called the situation correctly. MDI/Transcend will drop the shoe when it is convenient for THEM. If anyone thinks they really care about the needs of their MTs, review in your mind the events of the past, say, six months. Did you have enough work? Were you given flimsy excuses? Were you promised that things would be fine for once and for all in September? Indeed, SAD, but also, APPARENTLY TRUE. I will never trust another MTSO again. Ever.
I am really surprised to hear this.
When you say your pay is always late...have you looked at the postmark date to see if it was mailed on a payday Friday? It may take 3 days for me to get it but it is always mailed on time. These are the most professional and aboveboard people I have ever worked for. Why is your pay always wrong? Do you type or QA? Did you make them aware of the problems with your check?
I am surprised anyone still works for them!

I am surprised about the low pay posts below as
when I applied with them, they offered me great pay. They must have changed. How sad:(
I am surprised you were treated this way after only ONE day of being ill.
:+
Really surprised about your post..
I have been there about 4 months now and have had no trouble whatsoever with getting paid on time and my pay being right. I guess with every job some folks like and some don’t. I for one am really loving it.
I'm surprised you would ever be able to find a
nm
not surprised about the poor
communication and the jumping the gun. I think someone there likes to blame all the unreliable transcriptionists for the problem rather than taking responsibility for poor pay and poor management.
I'm surprised you didn't get something that was

QUALITY...You'd be surprised by how...sm
many MTs with 10, 15, or 20 years of experience are still getting paid peanuts, barely able to make minimum wage, yet highest quality is demanded of them. Where's the meat???
