I have been here for 4.5 hours today. Only got 1 job.
That's it. Period. How is this supposed to impress a new person? Or pay the new person's bills when they are new and no longer new? This is mighty mighty annoying.
I got my 5 jobs at MDI today
I got my 5 training jobs in and I feel fantastic!!! Perhaps better days ahead...it is amazing how such a small thing can make an MT feel better. Any other day this MT would be a nervous nelly all day because of not getting 5 little jobs.  Now, I made my quota, and can have a good weekend.  Silly isn't it how easy this MDI-MT is to please?

Jobs with flexible hours?

I have a 2 year old and want to find a job that I can work around her schedule, not have her play around my work schedule. Currently I work for a hospital full-time, at home, from 5:30 am until 2 pm. I'm trying to find a job that will pay decent (make almost $800 biweekly) but let me set my own hours or let me split my shift.

Can anyone help lead me to a flexible company? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Heather

P.S. I have 5 years experience and am willing to purchase whatever equipment is required, I just need the flexibility.

Are most part-time jobs with companies a few hours every day or are there
jobs that exist where you can work a few days during the week? If you can help, thank you!
Wont be changing hours..just jobs. I quit!!!
There are plenty enough companies out there who do not off-shore. I never thought much about it before because it didnt seem to effect me, but now it does, so I'm gone.
After signing up for 3 jobs totalling 80 hours a week as well as sm

an IC job for a few more hours, I guess I'm all about change for the New Year!  (ha)  Obviously, I cannot (or at least do not want to) work that much forever, but I have goals, and since I don't see the Pretty Woman fairytale coming true for me or perhaps winning the lottery, the only way to accomplish them is through hard work.  I believe we should change and constantly evolve into the best we can be, regardless of life situations and what beats us down.  I also realize that is easy to say, not always easy to do.

I have been a medical Transcriptionist for over 30 years now, starting in high school with on-the-job training.  I am thankful for having that inhouse experience with ladies who had been doing it forever and having the benefit of their ears to listen, not to mention their patience and caring and being willing to teach me and share their knowledge.  Like many others, I have watched the benefits and wages go down in this field and have felt frustrated, hopeless, etc., but ultimately we are all the captains of our own destiny.

I do not think I have the patience for QA, and I applaud those of you who do it.  To those of you who venture out and switch professions, I applaud you as well for your courage and determination.   To those who are the sole support for a family depending on you, I give you my cudos as well.   I am the only income for me and my doggie, and that is scary enough at times.  I cannot imagine the pressure of having others depend on me as well.

This is ending up a bit rambling.  I think I had a point when I started out.  I suppose I just wanted to thank you for the positive post and encourage others and let them know they are not alone.   Change is a part of life, but together perhaps we can all slog through it together.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here's what I've been doing: for example, today...(sm)
I had a patient with 2 cysts, in the OR for fine needle aspiration. The dictator very clearly said, "the 2 needles were aspirated."  So, I put what he said, and made a note in QA, but did NOT leave a marker in the report. That way, it goes right to the client WITH the note, but doesn't stop at QA.  That covers my butt, and helps the client.
I've been checking mine today
They seem pretty accurate, same as for the past +1 year.
Thanks for that. I feel a little better. I've had offers from three co's today sm
so maybe it is all for the best. What we want isn't always what's best for us.
I've been out of work 2 times today
7 a.m for 1-1/2 hours, and now. I don't count the 1 or 2 reports that slip in. I've worked exactly 3-3/4 hours today in my 8 hour shift.
I've been convinced. Resume going out today.

At the very least, they'll know I'm interested, and since there would be so little training involved, I would be able to take off running. I used to do 100-150 minutes per day and their requirement was only for 90, so, I doubt I'd have much of a problem. The downside to that is that there are no incentives above the 90 minutes. It's straight hourly pay.

The best part of it is that it is an at-home job after the training. DH says if I have to start 2nd shift, do it. I don't know if I could. I hated 3-11 shift when I first started there because I couldn't keep my eyes open after the witching hour of 8 p.m., plus I would still have to get up at 3:30 a.m. because DH leaves for work at 4:30 a.m. (when he has work) and doesn't get home until 5:30-6:30 p.m. My window of time with him is really only 2 hours a day.

We shall see what happens. Thanks for your input.

I've had a steady trickle today. nm

I've gotten several jobs through it
and from posting my resume.
I've worked 4 jobs before. I know what its like..
when money was tight, I got another job. (I had full-time MT job, waitressed at restaurant, bartended at a lounge, and cleaned and oversaw my apartment building) Did all that to move out of my parent's basement. That's how I am. Money's not so tight anymore because of BF, so now I have TIME to spend with my kids and I CAN appreciate that TIME because when I worked in-house, I didn't HAVE it. K. Enuf said.
I've been limited to 6 hours/day per ortho doc sm

It seems a reality. I've even seen jobs working every

We have work. I've been in your shoes though with other jobs
They are screaming desperately, I get the job, and the second day of the job, there is no work so I sat there all afternoon twiddling my thumbs. By day 3, when I was told there was only 3 reports to do, I quit. Life's too short to waste my time and energy.
Think the lowest I've seen is 600 lpd (maybe 500?) with Phoenix MedCom in 24 hours, but they..

I've been working 5 hours and it is still only showing 250 lines. It will
come up eventually correct, but seems to take forever.
I've been able to make my hours. No, you do not lose insurance if work should run out. nm

Yes, six files is ridiculous. I think we've all done ..four hours of testing to find out

we're offered a whopping 7 cpl. Why waste our time. I'm not a genius but I can tell you in three files or less whether someone knows what they are doing. I've seen graduates from MT programs that have blown my mind with their no concept of punctuation or just English at all. That definitely shows up in less than six files. Let us test and move along to the next disappointing test that will come back with a joke of an offer. Gotta love it!!!

I've had to submit mine for a lot of transcriptions jobs. Sounds okay to me. nm

Sorry, I work 15 hours a day 5 days a week and 5 hours the other 2, when I come here I dont proof.

Cherrypicking is when you work from a pool of jobs and being able to reject the worst jobs to those
,
Why would they give you a choice of 16 or 24 hours. Usually part time is anything under 37 hours.

That is extremely odd. Well they must have something up their sleeves. Well I will be working elsewhere part time as well as with MQ as I have no intention of sitting 40 hours with no work from Amherst and be expected to have 150 lph with no work. What is all this window of work time they said they would be giving everyone. I figured all along they would do away with SE. I have already been looking around and ordered a new computer  to send theirs back.

Any companies that allow line count rather than hours or less than 20 hours per week? (sm)

Wouldn't mind having something extra especially with Christmas and general winter expenses coming up but working a FT job and really don't want to do another 20 hours on top of that.

the day has 24 hours, I work only 6-8 hours, so, lots of time to post...nm

frustrated
I finished my DQS training almost two weeks ago. I was cleared for DQS two days later. The next day I received an email saying a DQS user request would be submitted for me and an update provided when I'm added. I've heard nothing. I've emailed several times with no response. Every email up till then was answered within minutes. I want to call now but fear sounding annoying and having it held against me in some way because I really need this job.

Is this typical? If so I can deal with it. I just wish I'd get some type of response. Should I call and risk being annoying after sending several emails?

I agree with the above post, it could just be an oversite with all the changes going on...as my Daddy used to say  "it's better to make a move than to sit and stew"
frustrated
Had you had any warnings in the past or did they have a policy on mistakes?

I'm Sorry Frustrated....
....I know how much of a pain in the rear it can be when no one will give you the chance to show your stuff. Keystrokes requires at least 5 years experience (I do believe).

I also just checked my email and another company has offered me a position, but it's not doing Radiology because they are fully staffed on their Radiology accounts, but has offered me a position in one of their medical records accounts. Waiting to hear if they will tell me what type of reports that account has and see what they say. I doubt I will take it though.

The only problem I see with Keystrokes is my schedule. I am not going to like working 2-10 p.m. Central time at all, but it was the only schedule that they had open. I wish you luck Frustrated. Just keep at it, someone will give you that opportunity.
Frustrated
I'm with you. I know what I should be doing, but get bounced all over the place from account to account. Just when I get my momentum up, I get either an ESL or a sloppy Engligh-speaking person. I don't want to wear out my rewing, but....I would love to be assigned 2 or 3 doctors and be responsible for just them. Dream?
Frustrated MT
company maybe CPR Technologies?
I am frustrated
with the ability to make lines at some of these companies and would give a pay cut in terms of cpl if I could have the chance to just MAKE the lines. Also, all these short 1-minute reports and the info put into the patienet information screen takes soooo much time and sucks the line counts from me daily.
Frustrated
Wow, $100?  I thought my $400-500 per pay period was bad, but in order to make that I have to log in every day.
frustrated

Thanks for the info.  Guess they are out because of the set schedule.  I am so sick of seeing companies hire as an IC but then turn around and make you work a set schedule!!!!!

Frustrated IC
I just have a question for the other ICs out there.  Isn't one of the advantages of being an IC that you do not have to be tied to shift work.  I ask this because I have been looking for a part-time job to supplement my current one that has gotten slow because they lost one of the doctors in the practice and all of the ones that I see posted for IC work mention the shifts that are available.  For a variety of reasons, I cannot be on the computer at the same time every day or even the same hours week after week, but I have never failed to get my 24-TAT accomplished.  I am just frustrated and was wondering if someone changed the rules in the middle of the game and forgot to send us all a memo...
frustrated
What a great post! As a new graduate just starting out, I expected it to take some to get my first job. Hearing that experienced MTs are having trouble is really disheartening. Hopefully everyone WILL be busy next month! When I get my career going, I will gladly vacation in a tropical climate during the slow time, as my husband is also in construction. Good luck to all!
frustrated
Do you know why they had to hire so many all at once?
frustrated
Yeah, I wonder how hard the Transcend/MDI mucky-mucks are crying? All the way to the bank.
I got so frustrated, I was continually
we would sever the relationship and I would not be responsible for paying them the $125 for the computer.  Haven't got my last check from them yet, so it might be $125 short.  Go figure.  Will keep you posted.  I was having headaches and chest pains when I worked for them.  The day after I quit, all that went away.
Just Frustrated and down in the dumps....
I work for a National, everyone told me I would love this company, I am trying so hard and cannot seem to get the daily line count they want or that I want.  I am using word Expander for the first time with this company and love it but sometimes, to me, it is a hinderence in getting your typing rhythm down, and sometimes it expands things that I did not want, so I pause, hesitate, delete, find what I am looking for etc. then go on, but again, my line count isn't what I thought it would be.  I work Sun-Thu and on Sun and Mon I meet the line count but then they switch me over to doctors I've never had on Tue, Wed, and Thu and then my line count goes way down, trying to find reports, trying to understand the doc, and end up leaving blanks.  I love being an MT, I just want to be able to pay my bills AND have some extra money to save....I guess I just wanted to vent....I know there are many excellent MTs out there, and Ill be replaced without hesitation, I just wanted to make this work.  I've been doing it for 2 years and this is the first time I've had this problem.  I don't do laundry while I work, I have a private room for my office and rarely leave the chair.  I have not taken any time off and even worked holidays.  Any ideas to increase my line count?
Also frustrated in searching
Is there anyway you could archive posts sooner, like maybe only keep two pages of current post?  Or set up a search for non-archived posts?
Focus frustrated
I am very happy to read your post. I have worked for Focus for three weeks. I expect my first paycheck next week and I think it may be for $1.25.ha ha I get 100% on most of my reports, but some of the foreign doctors are soo hard to dictate and I get an occasional 95% because of it. That is my money!
Also, I have been keeping track of line counts. MS Word and Escription are drastically different. MS Word shows 118 lines and Escription shows 67. At .08 cents a line that is about a whopping $20 a day!
I make more doing contract work! Think I will just make the leap.
Do you mind me asking what company you went to?
Not so frustrated anymore
I was frustrated a little while back. My account manager quit and I wasn't getting paid for my 2nd shift differential, but now things seem to have settled down. They have a new person doing payroll, and everything seems to be fine now. I have always loved the account that I work on and I even just got a new secondary account, so things seem to be getting somewhat back to normal there.
Expect to be frustrated
You'll try to communicate with them in English but they will not understand and just keep pushing other issues. They do not understand NO so be prepared to repeat yourself over and over when you are unable to work a certain day or time etc. Good luck with that one. People do not stay long there and your QA is done by people in India so do not bother taking any notes on the correct or incorrect way to transcribe as what you learn will never apply anywhere else you ever work. Best wishes..
I'm frustrated with this as well. We must be on same account! :)
