Recently applied at local hospital that paid incentive.
The local hospital here also pays hourly plus incentive. New MTs start at $15 an hour and then anything over 120 lines are paid at an incentive rate with the incentive rate increasing with the more lines you completed.
I used to make an hourly rate at a local hospital but s/m

The home-based MTs were on a tiered hourly scale depending on how many minutes we typed daily.  The in-house MTs were not on this scale and I believe they are the reason we lost our jobs to outsourcing.  They made the big bucks and could not even produce 80 minutes of dictation a day.  The home MTs had to produce 100 minutes a day to reach the maximum hourly pay.

I feel that being paid by production is not such a bad thing because at least the ones who produce get paid for it.

A combo hourly/incentive or straight hourly rate based on
A platform where MTs have had major input in developing it.

10 annual days of PTO, at average hourly rate.

Affordable, decent health insurance.

QA done by very experienced high-level MTs, with open and respectful communication between QA and the MTs.
What happened to my post about hourly + incentive? nm

Local hospital - sm
I loved Medware until they started sending so much of their work to Medware India. I spent my days editing the offshore work.  Its incredibly frustrating.  It doesn't matter how much feedback you give, the same errors are made. A person cannot go day after day after day doing that without getting down. I made the decision to leave and have been so much happier.  I only have to worry about my own quality now.
Our local hospital...
has closed the entire top floor, and the nursing students from the local college are lucky to get 1 patient for their clinicals. They are asking the older seniority nurses and other personnel to retire early. Another hospital has the healthcare workers down to 32 hours per week. I am in OH, and my area is really bad economy-wise.
oh and they have incentive if you type over where they add $$ to your hourly rate for all hours work
nm
Then a small co or a local hospital SM
would be better.  You are not going to find an MT service of any size that doesn't have a bunch of ESL dictators.  That's just the way it is.
JLG did work for our local hospital when I was there.
They charged us $3.50 a line. I saw the contract. I was shocked. We paid ICs $1.50 a line. And the work was horrible. Everytime they uploaded reports, 2 of us spent most of the day correcting them. After about 6 months, we fired them.

Once, while working for a local hospital
I was also working PT for the service that the hospital used. The only conditions made for that were that I could not work on my hospital's account as that could be considered a conflict, i.e., less work for the hospital so more was available for the PT job. I have yet to have a problem working for 2 companies. Currently I work for a national company FT and a local company PT. They do not have the same accounts, so therefore no conflict.
Only when hired by a local hospital - sm
It is a little surprising to hear they want you to do this.  I was hired by a local hospital (an hour away) and had to come in for training there - up to 3 months, unless I got the hang of it earlier.  Some folks who worked there lived a little farther away (one was 3 hours) but all were within driving distance.  So I have been asked - however, I've not been asked for a place as far away as what you described.
It's just a local hospital account, not a
national.  Most of the time I do their acute care work on Chartscript; I just help on radiology in Meditech if they are backlogged.  It's not the Meditech Magic version, though.  Don't know if that makes a difference.
The local hospital I go to has it....I have to say it is impressive.
I have various scopes done periodically for surveillance, and for the last few years they have handed me a beautifully typed and surprisingly detailed report as soon as I wake up, complete with color photos. I recently asked how it was done so quickly. The nurse said the doc types it using a template.
Mine pays both ways, hourly plus line incentive over certain amount.
x
Often it is better to apply at your local hospital. Many times they
train on-site. The training is invaluable as you can get training on acute care and radiology and you would have a mentor with you all day.
i just started working for a local hospital. sm
They pay for the entire phone bill and internet for an extra line to do their work.
worked 3 yrs, went to work for local hospital nm
nm
Oh boy I will. It is nothing but depressing out there. I applied at our local hospital because I can
hardly stand another day of this disappointment. This business has gone down the tubes!!
I work in-house at a local hospital...
And it's been pretty much famine conditions there, too. We're having to use our VH hours when we're called off for lack of work. I don't know where you're located, but I'm in central California. Perhaps it's a nationwide phenomenon for some reason.

Hang in there. The powers-that-be where I work keep telling us it's just temporary (although I'm preparing for the worst).

~hugs~
Actually, my local hospital offered me MUCH less than what I make at my MTSO
By 4 cpl.
Anyone happier working for a national versus local clinic or hospital? SM
I'm with a national but from time to time, openings come up with areas places. None are in my own town, but would be 30 to 45 minutes away from home. In the case of at least one of these places, you are required to work in-house just to get used to their system, which I understand, but they say it usually takes a year before being set free at home. Now I can understand that if you are a brand new MT, but as far as just getting used to how they do things, that seems excessive. If you meet the criteria sooner, you can go sooner. It worried me about the length of time. That would put me in a bind with little kids and being away from home on certain days after they got off the school bus.

On the flip side, they pay hourly so I might like that, rather than make next to nothing on some days where the dictators are horrible on my current account. On the other hand, on a good day the lines are worthwhile and I'd come out ahead by LPH rather than hourly rate.

So many things to think about...oh, and another biggie...with this local place I'd get health insurance free for myself (not the family, but I have the kids covered on a plan I'm already paying for myself, along with me on the plan, which I could then drop myself from).

Anybody worked both scenarios and decided the national really was better? I actually interviewed here a year ago but didn't have to decide because they offered it to somebody in-house so I never got an offer. I have 3 years of experience but I still worry I would take forever to meet the criteria to work from home. I guess there are a few that have been there over a year and haven't met it. I don't want that to be me.
Why would the money be better at a hospital? It is hourly RO
...well it is *usually* hourly, but the sky is the limit when you are on production. I guess you just have to find the right company for at-home (I have, some have not), because I can be in contact with someone to ask a question within mere seconds via IM or phone. Everyone has their own preference, though. I liked the food at the hospital cafeteria! LOL
Hospital hourly PLUS production
I worked in-house (then later from home) for a hospital. We had hourly pay (but couldn't slack off because we had a minimum number of lines we HAD to transcribe) if we wanted to keep our jobs. We also had incentives in the form of tiered bonuses for all lines over the minimum required, so the more we typed, the more we made. We had to have at least 98% on our monthly QA. Yes, the benefits were much, much better.
Is $15.00 per hour without incentive worth driving back and forth to a job at a hospital? nm
NM
Where do you live? The hospital I work for has two openings and they pay hourly, SM
but they require that you train in-house for at least the first 90 days (sometimes it is shorter/longer depending upon how quickly you pick up the nuances of the job) and you are required to come in for quarterly department meetings
They have created a new position that pays hourly. Anyone know what the hourly rate range is? NM

just spoke to her - THEY DO NOT
NM
Spoke with them last Fri
and the recruiter told me that they don't really do part-time anymore.  However, she also told me she would either email me over the weekend or call me Monday to let me know she had worked out a schedule for me...and that didn't happen.  *pout*
I agree. I just spoke with NY and they said
an emphatic, "NO".
I did take their test and spoke with them sm
The dictators from the test weren't that bad and they are actually from the oncology acct I would have been on.  I think the pay was about 8 cpl and you'd be an IC with a line requirement of 1500 a day.  That's really all I can remember.  I just didn't want to be an IC.
Very low pay when I spoke with them 1-1/2 years ago. nm
x
I spoke with her and she was very nice. (nt)
xx
You said you spoke to the owner.
You are not credible.
Why I spoke with the owner - sm
SHE called me, SHE hired me, SHE promised me a job at a certain rate, SHE gave me all kinds of excuses why the job never materialized and then I never heard from anyone again. Enough said.
I also spoke with the owner for the same
exact reasons. She called me, she hired me, she emailed me daily, she offered me account after account, which never materialized while I did crap work just waiting for her promises to be kept. Guess what? They never were!
Is that company you spoke of . .
Is that company you spoke of hiring IC?  I have a part-time gig typing ER notes now and I'm not really happy there.  Some QA people are so nice and polite and very helpful when you have a blank/question, but others are down right mean and rude -- very unprofessional.  I have a ton of experience typing clinic -- not much ER.  It is so hard to find companies that hire for clinic dictation and actually have enough work.  The pool is almost always dry at the hospital.  I really love typing ortho and oncology.  Was hopeful to find full-time clinic work again in either of those two areas.  I am so glad to hear from MTs who have found a light at the end of the tunnel.  I worked for a few bad apples too.  I get a lot of offers, but from crap companies.  I was beginning to wonder if there were any good places left out there.
I got the call to and spoke with her...
The company's website is www.alsi-llc.com . She said she was looking for well versed rad MTs to work on VA hospital accounts..pay is 7 cpl.

ITA. I'm going one now who if he spoke up and wasn't

banging what s/l a stapler while dictating I might be able to do him.   He has a very strong accent and I was halfway through the report before I learned the accent and after I finish I'll go back and relisten.

I spoke too soon I must need new glasses
.
I just spoke with the HR representative
on Friday.  If you want her information, contact me directly and I can give you the information on who you might talk with.
I got a card and a gift.. as did everyone I spoke to
You may want to wait a few days and take that back.
I just spoke with the recruiter today.
They appear to be hiring for both Diskriter Employee status and Hospital Employee status. Im not sure why, but she only spoke to me about being an employee for Diskriter and benefits were cheaper than what I have been quoted from other companies, but still pushing up to $300 a month for family plan. I would like to know what the hospital employee benefits are like in comparison. Hoping to get clarification on this today.
oops, correction, spoke too soon -- sm
OSi does not appear to offer health insurance, etc. on their website ... they do offer holiday pay and other nice things ...
Hourly?? Where does one get an hourly editing job?
I'm at 5 for VR/8.5 for straight typing.  I know we aren't to mention names, but I'm curious how hourly VR jobs are located.
I spoke with the gentleman from Transcription Inc this morning - sm
Their headquarters or corporate office is in Hot Springs, Arkansas.  It is a start-up company, not in business yet.  What else do you want to know?
You have GOT to be kidding. She was one of the nicest persons I ever spoke with regarding MT.
She is very upfront and open, and was even willing to discuss pay rate pretty much from the beginning, so I wouldn't waste time if the rate they could pay wasn't enough. I thought she was great.
I thought it was rude that they never spoke to me or let me test
Believe me, I have a lot of good experience and don't feel I am just entitled to a job. I am flexible on my hours and days and can do any work types. My equipment is state of the art.

It just really fries me to see these companies complaining about a shortage of MTs and then just brushing them off when someone good comes along. Do they really want quality MTs, or do they want newbies that they can pay nothing and walk all over?

The way I figure it, it is their loss, not mine.
The recruiter I spoke to was VERY misleading about holiday pay.
I never would have known (until it was too late!) about their holiday policy unless I had read it here.... I've tossed my notes from the interview but as I recall she said something about as long as you work your next scheduled day before and after you get time+1/2 on holidays.  Could be wrong but anyway it left me with an impression apparently pretty different from the truth.  I'm so glad I said, I'll think about it!
Hi, Any new info on Teletrak in California? Just spoke....
with the recruiter and she is super-nice, everything seems great for an IC, just wonder if anyone has worked for them and what it is like....doing a balancing act here, any info would be sooooo appreciated!
Not personally, but I spoke with a friend this morning and she sm
has a friend who went to work there recently and so far is very happy there. Hope that helps even though it is only from one source.
Hey great! I spoke with the recruiter yesterday and SM

Does Bayscribe have to be downloaded onto your computer or is it something you just call into? Thanks for ANY info. I will be ueing a C-phone, havent used one of those in years!
