there would be no need to fire you either - your services are no longer needed end of story. You're only a subcontractor, not an employee. You state this person complains and speaks of other employees which you feel is unprofessional. The right thing to do would be to excuse yourself from the conversation if you felt this way. Listening is just as unprofessional in my opinion.
