I got an email from them today as well....it was very vague about what positions ....

were available.  And the person who sent this email sent a mass mailing to several (at least 25 or 30) transcriptionists at one time.  Seems to me this person is canvassing or trolling per se.  I'm very uncomfortable with this one because I've never heard of them nor are they in any archives here on this board.  I am also looking for any information on this company.  Merry Christmas all.

hardly. They cut the non MT positions to the bone today. I know I'm not the only one.

We now require a minimum of 5+ years of recent, full-time medical transcription experience. No other medical experience, experience gained through school or nonmedical transcription is acceptable. Recent means no more than a 2-year gap since last full-time transcription position.

I got the same email from the president of AAMT today but like
you say, a day late, a dollar short. I think they would best serve themselves by staying away from the Heartland employees. I personally do not know how they can hold their heads up with what has happened to our industry. I believe in global economy, but what they did was wash us right out of it.

I have no reason to meet with you, have a good job and certainly do not care to discuss with you where you send your work. I know what I read and it was quoted by a top official at your company. Even though you said the newspaper slanted the story like they wanted it to read, I saw quotes and never saw where the paper did a retracation of the story.

I live literally 1 block from the shore and have only been twice this year due to baseball with kids, my mother being in town for 3 weeks who does not like the beach and wants to be entertained all day long and a bout with the flu. I am going to take the rest of today and tomorrow and bake like a french fry!

k, all I did was do a search for Smartmed and a ton of stuff came up.  Problem is that it is not recent. 


 


ANYBODY have recent info on them.  OR are they offering 10-12 cents because of problems keeping people, still cumbersome software, etc.

There is a large window of about the same in this field anymore. Ive seen as little as 6cpl and as much as 10cpl. Are you saying they pay about 8?

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Independent contractor for assorted local and national accounts.  Worked on blah, blah, and blah specialties.  Experience in basic four, SOAPs, blah, blah.


May I ask why you were not happy? Vague statements don't help very much. sm

I was very shocked to read this post. I have not defamed, posted or made negative comments about KS since leaving - not once, and I would have been very disappointed to know they did not show me/us the same courtesy. Again, thanks for clarifying.
Testing requirements often way to vague.
In defense of those experienced MTs who do not pass muster when testing with new companies (and we hear that a lot, that they just aren't up to snuff somehow), I have to say that sometimes the failure may not be with the MT at all. Some MTSOs behave as if the specific ways they want their tests done are the ways ALL reports are always done at every company in existence. A really experienced MT knows that there are MANY ways to transcribe a report (verbatim, modified verbatim, edit for clarity, for example). The MT can hardly be faulted if the MTSO demands absolute verbatim but the MT has always worked where editing for clarity (not being creative, but producing a superior document, IMHO)is the order of the day.

I always have to roll my eyes when asked to test as if you know every detail of the BOS!! - when really the BOS gives very broad latitude to change/edit unclear and sloppy dictation. How are we supposed to know how any particular MTSO wants its reports done, unless it SAYS SO - and they rarely do. It's often a no-win situation for the MT - tweak the report to enhance clarity, and the MTSO is sure to want strict verbatim. Go strict verbatim, and the MTSO is sure to think they don't want you, you're way too rigid and the final report is unreadable because of dictator error that you faithfully transcribed.

I always say, do the report the way you would want it done if you were the patient in question. If the MTSO hates it, you didn't want to work there and be asked to do what makes you uncomfortable, anyway. Eventually you will find an MTSO that appreciates your skill and is a good fit for your talent, so keep on testing, and don't let it get you down if they don't call back. Again, it may not be that you aren't proficient, but they are simply looking for a different style and neglected to tell you about it beforehand.

I've been with Webmedx for 8 years and nothing has changed lately for me. I'm happy, plenty of work (in fact lots of OT), same accounts that I've worked for years, same manager. What has changed for you for the worse?

Both positions are for...
large teaching facilities with many different types of reports.  The test reports I did included a chest x-ray, mammogram, MRI, CAT scan, and a few interventional procedures.  So I'm thinking maybe the gross line method would be best?

For MTs who want to work 20 hours and under, they work when they are needed or something like that. It's in the other posts.

IC positions
Does anyone know of any IC jobs that allow you to work the hours you want, with just a weekly line requirement?
MDI positions
Keep checking back with them on your resume, and if nothing pans out try again in a few months. I imagine they have been flooded with resumes this week from MQers. They are usually pretty good about not overhiring and keeping the accounts staffed adequately so it all stays in TAT but people have enough work.
PT Positions
Hi - I currently work part-time for a company that is consistently running out of work (a bunch of you can probably guess which one). I am looking for somewhere where I can put in about 10 hours weekly to supplement. Can anyone recommend anywhere that would hire for such limited hours? I do not want to leave my current company just yet - only been there a year.....but do want something permanent and steady.

This is possibly a stupid question but how do you get a job in QA?  I have been a medical Transcriptionist for over 24 years and would love to do some QA work.  Can anyone give me some insight into this?  THANKS!

What's with all the IC positions I'm seeing lately?

It was just a matter of a few years ago that the IRS was stomping on just about any MTSO that used what I will call (for want of a better term) the IC dodge to get out of withholding taxes, paying their share of SS, unemployment insurance premiums, etc., etc. 


At the time, the IRS published a list of something like 20 questions or criteria that had to be met for an individual to truly be considered an independent contractor - and none of the MTSOs they audited met the criteria.  I was personally involved with a company that was declared in violation and it cost them plenty.  I also heard about a number of others that were similarly penalized.


For the most part, this IC thing is just what I called it above - a DODGE.  In almost every sense, in most cases, the individual is an EMPLOYEE.  One of the criteria, for instance, included the degree of control over HOW the work was to be done, WHEN the individual had to work, etc. and it's almost impossible for an MTSO not to exercise more control than the IRS likes to see.


One explanation could be that the IRS is concentrating on other industries right now. They're so short-handed in their auditing division that they have to prioritize what they go after each year.  Maybe they thought they had cleaned this up and moved on.  If so, they should come back and take another look, because this is starting to rear its ugly head again.

You can email me the information if you like..First off, are they hiring for ortho? and what is their scheduling like, FT or PT, IC status or employee etc. I would like to find a company that is pretty flexible. Also, what platform do they use? I have worked at some like you were saying, took forever to get the line count and I want to work 8 hours and be done. Oh, do you have benefits, and what are they like if you have them? Thanks for any information you can give..

eliminated positions
Well.... I'm not sure which account you are talking about, but what actually took place was this.... for each of the .. I think 3 accounts there was a day and an evening lead MT. On the acct I worked on there was also a night lead .. though I'm not sure about the others. What they did was tell the leads that their positions were eliminated and actually created new positions, positions which were lead positions, both covering 3 accounts instead of one... plus they are required to type 600 lines on their shift... which basically means they will be of no support to the MTs.. which I felt was the most important part of my job. You will not find anything which violates labor laws in this.... As far as integrity in a company that would do that to their employees.. that is different story. Now.. what you might learn by reading through the facts on this site...

is that these people seriously violate the labor laws when it comes to the amount of work-related hours their MTs put in which they are not paid for.... now THERE is something that cannot be denied. Please tell whichever lead it is ... that I know how she is feeling.. and it shouldn't be allowed... but then..firing an employee after 28 years of working in the same hospital for fabricated reasons after you find out she knows you have been playing doctor with one of the married physicians on staff... and are afraid she might tell... well that isn't right either.. but .. it still happens all the time...the only and very best thing we can do ... is swear to be better people than those who are willing to screw the rest of us to get ahead....

Hospital positions

The hospitals themselves have rules that they only hire from certain states. I have never really gotten a definite answer as to why, but I believe it has to do with the state tax withholding and they are only compatible with certain states.  I work for one of these hospitals, but I could not work for the other one because of the state I live in.


It's too bad they put you through all of that without checking first. It should be one of the first things the recruiter checks for a hospital position I would think.  There is more than one hospital, so make sure you don't qualify for any of the other ones.
