I know!

I lived in the Bay Area of California for almost 20 years; ex was in the Navy and then I stayed for a while after he split. Even after he got out of the Navy and we had split up, I had no problem for a while making the $1500/month rent on a 3BR place (which, sadly, even then was not really luxurious), utilities/cable/DSL, and still make a car payment, insurance, supporting 3 kids, provide everyone with cell phones, etc., etc, even without getting child support. Yes, I did work 10-12 hour days then, but I felt that I was well compensated and didn't mind it at all. However, about 4 years ago it began to whittle away and then 2 years ago I had to immigrate to the midwest. I'd gotten myself into a bit of a personal jam and really mangled my life. I'm in the process of trying to piece things back together, but even still working 10-12 hour days, I barely eke out a spartan existence in the middle of nowhere; I don't know how anyone could be a single income MT in any of the metropolitan areas. God bless them, because there is no way I could now provide my kids the lifestyle that I was able to give them back then.

Sorry for the rambling...the economics of this new global workforce and my own foibles are taking a cumulative toll on me, and I sometimes run verbally (typeally?) amok.
