In Reply to: Anyone here live in PA??? - I am moving to the eastern/sm

all my family is still there. Live in Oregon now, but would go back in a heartbeat! Nothing like being close to New York, AC, Washington DC, not to mention all the great food in Philly and the wonderful WaWa! Mmmm, TastyKakes and cheese steaks!

Yes I have children that I raised alone
and the last one grew up and left in 1994. Back then people did not take junk pay for work. They refused it and back then we got what we asked. Maybe you were not a QA person then (neither was I BTW), but when I decided to go for it, I got still only half what I earned as an MT with over 25 years of acute care experience, any work type. It's not the average wage in your town. It is national and I find that no matter who you work for, you can get a decent wage...well almost...if it weren't for you who take less money. It was easier two years ago.

It's all in how you learn to negotiate.

Please rethink that $14 and not a penny less than $15 bottom cuz if you do take $14, that makes them think the wage is ok.

I am on your side, but please think hard about this.
The fact that she said *raised*,

as if by taking them to daycare 6 or 8 hours a day 5 days a week is considered raising kids, was rather insulting to all moms who have ever had to take their children to daycare.  It's meant to cause guilt, which isn't what the OP needs right now.

Daycare facilities do not raise children.  They care for them while their parents are working and trying their best to support them.  In the end, it's the parents who make sure that their children are raised, not daycare.

What's wrong with that opinion?!

Medware raised premiums
Medware no longer has good benefits, at least as far as affordability goes. They recently increased the premiums and if you live in certain states, they are extremely high. Expect to pay between $100 to $200 a month in premiums depending on which state you live in.
Don't know if they've ever raised their pay above 7 and 8 cpl. It's been that rate for year
s
Very difficult and they raised the minimum lines per wk. nm

Born in the USA
My own physician is not U.S.-born (Indonesia) but has told me he feels if one is to be an American (which he now is) then once must have some commitment and loyalty to America. He thinks the off-shoring is horrible, is angered about the way U.S. MTs are treated in general, refuses to allow his work to be sent out of the U.S., and tells me he thinks the stress of MT is causing me health problems and not enough exercise. LOL
Now THAT is a patriot.
:) LOL...well, I was born in CT and lived in OR most

of my life, so I'm a yankee through and through!  I lived in SC for 2 years, though, when I was in the Navy, but that's my only southern accent experience.  Funnily enough, my first-born son had a southern accent for his first couple years.  (He was born in South Carolina.)  He would crack me up by saying, I doun't wanna go ta baaayed!  I doun't wanna take a naaaayap!  Where's my Batmaaayan?  I wanna go ta MACdonaud's!  :) :)

Born yesterday, nope and not everyone knows
what Toth is as per the person asking above in this thread. I work as independent, I work certain days and certain hours and if I run out of work I don’t have to make up and just do whatever I want for the rest of that day. I am not a slave to my computer, my home, my employer, no one. You gotta first grow a backbone and do what ever is necessary in order to try to retrieve your pay.
My father born same year so
you and I are probably 2 golden oldies, right? I love these years, so far, so good.
Originally from Waterford, born in sm
Pontiac. Now live in NC. My sister still is in Highland, other relatives/friends, White Lake, Novi, Waterford, Pontiac, Clarkston, etc, all over Oakland County. Actually am going up on October 10 for 2 weeks.
Boy do I miss Philly.
:(
Philly,PA Landmark
The person who always comes to the defense of Landmark may actually be working for the company in Philly. The tone and language sound like someone in particular. This person may very well be getting enough work for their needs.

However, many MTs from the Landmark located in the Philly area left in the Spring or this Summer when things went in the toilet, along with QA staff. Many others chose to go from full time to part time. It's my understanding that a lot of their MTs never worked full time for them.

THey had some really nice accounts, just not consistent quantities of work. A couple of the accounts that are left are downright nasty (poor sound quality, the least desirable dictators that the other services or the hospital does not want to transcribe).

It's really a shame. People had big hopes for this company. They knew what didn't work with MQ. Their location gives them access to many many good accounts that they could easily manage without the huge expense of long-distance travel. They should be in the inner loop of contacts, as well, since they have all been in the business for years.
Landmark-Philly
Does anyone have any current information on this company? Did they ever get anymore accounts to make up for all the lost work last spring and this summer? I know they use both Bayscribe and ExText platforms.

I did learn that although the owners are formerly associated with MQ and include SecrePhone in discussing their history, they do not actually go back enough years to have actually worked for the original SecrePhone. One account manager may have, but not the owners.

Thanks for any pertinent information.
Landmark in Philly
This company is advertising again. Do they finally have more accounts or are they still trying to cover for loosing all the previous MTs? They seem to have positive comments about the platform, supervisors, and overall company policies, except for a lack of work when they lost a ton of accounts all at one time. Any information would be really appreciated.
Philly Landmark
I agree -- nice does not pay the bills. I don't know which person you spoke with, but nobody I ever dealt with from this company (and the owners and people who run the company are few) would be considered weird.

Their pay is about the same as most companies currently. The issue would be whether an MT can get enough work from Landmark to make a full time paycheck. In my experience, that was not often the case. They either had tons and work and were begging for help, or the accounts were empty, with no explaination or a lot of time going by where they asked the MTs to hang in there until they could get more work. Those weeks of waiting did not pay the bills. It appeared that most MTs were working part time for Landmark for this reason.
BTW- I started with TL out of Philly too
then on to SecrePhone! Doing this in the 70s, was way different than doing it now, no??
Good for you; you're a natural born MT and I wish you well. nm

Christmas is a holiday because Christ was born...
President's Day is a holiday, too. And I'm guessing very few people in this industry get paid for THAT!! It's not all about YOU!!!
True. My dad was born in 1914 and I heard him use it
I think they may even say it in some old movies. I grew up hearing it... it was slang for looking for, hoping for, jones'n for a new job, etc.
I was born in Roswell so that makes sense
=)
Boy, so do I (NJ gal but got to Philly enough to enjoy the cheesesteaks. I miss them

My godson lives in Glenholden near Philly..sm

I find the people in western PA (Pitts area) are just so nice (just my opinion folks, no flaming necessary *grin*), whether it be shoppers, employees in the shops and/or restaurants...and especially on the road - I have spent so much time there and nobody seems to be into road rage (thank goodness!) - but my godson lives on the east side of PA and loves it....as does a good friend  near Philly airport area (Jersey side but 10 minutes from Philly airport) in Collingswood, NJ.

Best of luck whereever you decide to go!!

Gorgeous horse country right outside of Philly!
Google areas near New Bolton Medical Center in Pennsy. If country is up your alley, there are lots of great towns. If you like cities, then Philly is for you! Go EAGLES!!
Depends on the person. I live right in Philly and love it here.

If you want big, move to Philly (3.6 mil); or on a smaller scale, the surrounding suburbs where
you can live as if in the country, but only be minutes away from all the action. Philly really does have it all.
