Do you need a Cphone and your own LD for all accounts or do they have any internet accts.? nm

I couldn't make any money with them
for pretty much the same reason -- and I usually do pretty well with ESL dictators, but combined with the dictation quality it was rough. I think they started at 0.0875 per line, with maybe more per line depending on how many lines you produced. I don't remember for sure about that though.
While the acct does make a difference, the drop in pay
will make it difficult for anyone who has been a speedy MT to make nearly the same amount of mone. It appears to me that their goal is to put all employees in the $30-35K per year range. That's not good enough for me.

I should have listened to the warnings last year on this board last year, but that's okay - I've learned my lesson and will be starting next week with someone else who give me a CHOICE as to whether I edit or not.
Dawn, I agree with you girl! All my good docs...
have also been kidnapped by the cherrypicker gang!
Or it could be that "your company" couldn't quite make the cut.

decent money. They changed their QA and guidelines and I made even less due to extra proofing, looking up in their Style book and the BOS which oftentimes conflicted. Their spellchecker was full of misspelled words.  Drugs were way outdated. Couldn't use my own word expander. Took about three weeks to get feedback sheets and sample reports. Wasn't worth it. I figured if I had to produce a superbly quality document, I would go elsewhere for more money.
I think MT is becoming a niche business that will soon consist only of ESLs with the good docs

to really give it a chance. I know that now. I started but got cold feet and went back to my old job. I really liked their benefits, and I'd be willing to give it time, this time, to get more used to the account and system, etc.

I was just wondering if they ever hired anyone back. Thanks for asking and not flamning. :)

I tried it but couldn't do a good job of it.
It would be nice to just test out their platform before signing on with them and giving out so much personal information. If you spend a lot of time with data entry before even beginning the report, you can't really make any money that way either regardless of the nice pay rate.

good luck.:)
MDI-FL - is the internet platform/MS word a good

platform.  I understand they have about 4 different platforms.  I would be interested in the proprietary internet platform that uses MS Word.  Is it user friendly and productive, can you see your line counts immediately, what type of short cut Expander is used, and the type of voice player to download jobs?

Thanks

A lot of OT on my acct, supes are good, pay on time.

Can anyone tell me who a really good SE company is that is solely internet based and are nice to
work for with decent accounts. Thanks much.
Truthfully - I couldn't get a good line count on Bayscribe. sm
I have 24 years experience doing all acute care and focusing on op reports. I could not get more than 200 lines per hour as opposed to my normal 350 lph. I had to rebuild an Expander as theirs comes with absolutely nothing and their spellcheck is not up to date and not Stedman's. So, I was just not used to working that way. Plus the sound quality using wave player was terrible. So, I used the Lanier for another account and never got the same dictator twice in a week doing all op reports. I stuck it out for a few months thinking, ok let me try this and get used the account and maybe increase my line count. Guess what - it didn't happen. So, I left.

My gut instinct was this was not going to work the third day I was working there - usually your gut instincts are correct so follow them.

All-in-all, I guess it is a good company and you can make a decent line count with the right account; however, that was not the case for me.

I went and got my own accounts again and am up to speed doing 350 - 400 lines an hour working in Word and using my up-to-date Stedman's and my own expander.

Also, those daily 3x a day e-mails telling us we are going to lose the account and everyone stretch, etc. just got to me. In my opinion, they are so unprofessional and if an owner has that much time on her hands, there is something wrong. I found them not encouraging at all and, in fact, had the opposite effect on me. Once I got one of those e-mails, I didn't want to work anymore or extra and sometimes I just stopped working for a while. Never an e-mail saying thank you to everyone for getting the account caught up or keeping it caught up - only do more, more and more.

Hope this helps! Not everyone will agree. Some love it there and make a good line count; however, this was just my experience.

I used to have a QA guy that couldn't transcribe, couldn't fill in a blank,

but was anal retentive when it came to punctuation.  You would have a report with 10 blanks in it because of poor sound quality, and he wouldn't fill in one blank, but he had put commas all throughout your report, or taken apostrophes out, etc. and he wasn't correct in his punctuation a lot of the time.   Several of the MTs complained about him and asked to not have him do their QA, so he was demoted from QA to an MT.  Well, as I said earlier, he couldn't fill in a blank.  I saw a couple of his reports and there was blank after blank in reports that I had no trouble with at all.  He also didn't proof his reports because he would have inapproriate/incorrect expansions in them.  Not sure if he left on his own, or didn't really have a choice.  Anyway, talk to your supervisor.  Maybe this person is just on a power trip, knows you are new and wants to train you to do it her way, even if your way isn't incorrect.  I think punctuation is a valid issue, but if it doesn't change the integrity of the report and there are no other errors it shouldn't be flagged by QA.    You could also take into account her corrections and maybe try to use a few more commas, etc. and that might help.

Oh, I couldn't understand them. I didn't try them all, but the first couple, I couldn't und

How was your acct at Amphion? I have a HORRIBLE acct...

I am new to Amphion and have this account that has a lot of account specifics, no automatic ADT (which means I have to search for the names, etc) which is not a problem for me, but there is one dictator who is ALWAYS awful, and I have been getting him back to back to back my first week with Amphion.  Did you find that you basically only had 1 or 2 dictators while there or did you have more?  Of course, I would not mind doing him occasionally but can't do this all day.  I will never be able to make any money, especially at the line rate that I am being paid.  I have 2 children of my own and 3 of my sister's children in my care.  I cannot afford to do this everyday and don't know what to do.  I work as an IC for another company making 9 cents a line, which is much more than Amphion, but really wanted employee status so was willing to make a little less, but I am afraid it is not going to work.  I do not want to have to find yet another company and start all over with them to only find out that they suck too.  Any suggestions?

Any good MT knows that what you make
per line is just one part of the equation. Do you have enough work? How are your lines counted? Bottom line is how much you make per hour. They have a tiered pay plan if you are FT. They have line rate incentives for both quantity and shift as well as CMT incentives. They will pay for your CMT if you pass the test and contribute yearly to your CECs I believe up to $150 a year. That is reason in itself to at least think about it.

You make good points. SM
I agree with you. Just experience does not make a good MT and some newbies are excellent and careful. If you have 20 years of experience with no mentoring and substandard training, you probably make dumb mistakes and are not aware of it. Everyone makes mistakes but some seasoned MTs make way too many. Keep up the good work.
Does experience make a good MT?
I am so confused right now.  I am a newbie trying to get a foot in the door.  I finally was accepted in a mentor program for a national.  In the mentor program you must reach 516 with 98% accuracy before you are allowed to become full time.  I am unable to make the line count because there is never enough work.  I am happy for this opportunity, but I feel because there is never enough work, I will never make the line count.  I have been offered a full time position to do operative reports and discharge summaries.  I am doubting my abilities and do not know if I can do the operative notes.  Should I go for the full time position or do I need experience before I am a good MT?  How do you know you are good enough to take on a job doing operative notes.  I want to go for it because the mentor program never have enough work to meet my goals, but what if I am not good enough yet?  helpful advise is appreciated.  Thanks
LOL. And with whom? Only good MTs make that much, not recruiters.

You make a good point..
You know what, you're right. An experienced GOOD MT will hit the ground running and not need their hand held. I'm sure an experienced, good MT is worth their weight in gold and SHOULD be paid more. There should be a way to do that, and if all those companies out there that are crying because they can't get experienced MTs would compensate in a way that is perceived as more fair, people would be beating a path to their door. The only thing that bothers me is the assumption that all MTs with many years experience are good at what they do. I've seen with my own eyes that this is not the case. Some of them don't seem to even know proper English usage. Why should that person be paid more just because they've put in X number of years? I guess it just reminds me too much of the labor union seniority systems that protect and reward the mediocre. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post above; just wanted to give another perspective. If I were sitting where you are, I'd probably feel the same way. The MT profession has been eroding for years, and it's got to be tough on those who were part of the good old days of being an MT when they felt reasonably rewarded for their expertise.
Does anyone who uses MediTech make good $ ?
I've checked the archives, etc., and mostly MTs have said it's cumbersome.  But is Meditech such that after getting used to it you can make good money, $20+/hour?  I know it depends on the account, but just wondering.
You make a ver good Point.
The stuff that I have read was from 2 years ago, alot can happen in two years time. Every company has something wrong with it in someone's opinion. I just saw a lot of bad remakrs about it. Maybe it will be more of a positive experience for me.
Yes, and make sure the training is good, and
if you are going to Meditech, make sure your word Expander will work and it is a good spell checker. IMO
you make some good points but may I just ask
what is the point of posting all this information? Most companies post upfront at their sites how much they pay, and there are always those who make more for some reason or another than others. What is the data for, just curious...
You make a good point
You were able to get some recogniton because the doctor knew who YOU were and the quality that you put out. That doesn't exist much anymore. I think THE major factor contributing to the decline of the MT profession is depersonalization. As employees of MTSOs, we are no longer individuals, but part of a big MT machine that cranks out dictation. The true consumer of the MT product, the doctor, has no contact whatsoever with the person who transcribes the report. That means that there is no recognition for the excellent MT; they are mixed in with all the substandard MTs and the doctor never knows who is typing the report. He gets back good, he gets back bad, and everything in between. Basically, the only reward we get these days is our own pride in doing a good job. Unfortunately, that doesn't pay the bills.
You make a good point -
I think you're spot on ~ each of us has different needs and different capabilities. Some companies get bashed just because they weren't a perfect fit for someone and some companies are really are validly not so good to work for.
I've been with SoftScript for nearly 7 months and I have nothing bad to say. I had about 12 years experience and a few years away - things in this business changed drastically during that time. Softscript gave me a really fair go. I worked for Medquist before for many years and did a short period of time with Spheris, but went back to Australia. I was doing VRE with them ~ that was weird, but not their fault.

Some people can't be satisfied with anything ~ I'm happy knowing I have a job and the people are really nice.

Just my dollar's worth (2 cents doesn't go anywhere anymore)
Does anyone really make a good living doing VR??? sm
I currently work for one of the larger MT companies that is mostly VR, platform isn't bad, but just not able to get my line count up.  I was curious if it just me or if there were MTs out there who were doing good on VR and glad they have made the switch.  Thanks.
