Pay will drop significantly with Dictaphone EXSpeech 1/2 per line, or something to that tune. nm

Is Dictaphone ExSpeech same as EditScript?

If so, since I have ExText already on my computer, will they have to dowload their version and do you know if it will interefere with my software I am already working on. I know I should be asking the company this, but just curious.   Also, which is the best ExSpeech or EditScript.  They say I will make 5 cpl for editing. I have never done editing before.  Been transcribing 30 plus years.  Though I would try ASR to break the monotomy and hopefully get out this slump I'm in.

Foot pedal not used with Dictaphone ExSpeech n/m

I make 4 cents a line, work part and make
over $500 a week on part.
Again, we make pretty big concessions to be in our line of work ...
First of all, I'd like to see this 'lucky enough to work out of the comfort of our own homes' stuff abolished. Many, many professions now work at home, and they do NOT accept a substandard quality of treatment because of that.

I know dozens upon dozens of coders, graphic designers, and support staff who work at home - BY THE HOUR - and get paid for the time in which they are working (or the time in which they are scheduled to be working, but have no work to do).

Let's say I make 9 cpl doing clinic notes (which is a really good gig, if I did that, but that's definitely NOT standard), and I make $19 an hour.

However, the first half hour that I work is answering work emails, starting my day, gathering the info I need, etc. Then, there's another half hour throughout my day that I spend answering emails or instant messages. Then, there's an hour or two during my day where I'm out of work because the company has over hired. Then, at the end of my day, I spend another half hour tallying my line counts, finishing up emails, and filling out a time sheet.

How much am I actually making per hour now?

Now, as a true fact, back when I started in transcription 12 years ago, I did start at 9 cpl. And I had an IC job that paid 13 cpl.

Earlier this year, I had to look for a new company to work for, and I was blatantly told several times by several 'reputable' companies that they would absolutely not start anyone, regardless of experience, over 8 cpl.

In no other profession would you find this, except maybe (MAYBE) fast food or waitressing.

The bitterness many MTs feel makes sense. We are asked to do many things outside of our work time that brings our actual hourly wages down. We are asked to sit for hours and scrounge for work, all without pay. We are consistently stripped of benefits like holiday pay and vacation pay. We are never rewarded for the years we have put into our careers or the knowledge we've gained because of that. We are very, very occasionally thanked (in mass emails) for the hard work we put in, and then immediately asked to flex our time regardless of the lives we have planned in order to suit the needs of our company. Our only hope for more money is to work more hours, or to somehow make our fingers faster and the dictators more audible. We are never, ever able to be dependent on our paychecks, because our line counts vary paycheck to paycheck due to fluctuating work. And, more than anything, we're treated as numbers (by many, but not all), and expendable because we're faceless, personality-less drones.

But it's our fault as much as it's the companies' faults. We've allowed ourselves to be treated this way. We've told ourselves things like, 'Oh well. At least I can do this in my pajamas.'

Can you imagine a coder in a hospital being asked to leave for three hours a day on random days of the week, only to be asked to come back and work those three hours at some time after 7 p.m.? Can you imagine an accountant being told that they are not to conduct company business like responding to or sending emails during their work hours, and that they have to do it on their own time without pay?

I don't condone whining, and I don't think dwelling in negativity is the answer to our problems. I also agree that the complaining can be easily misconstrued as selfish.

But I DO congratulate those who are constructively doing something to elevate our profession to a new level. Even if it backfires, even if it's all for naught, and even if it's misguided, at least it's not just sitting around and complaining anymore.

Venting- how can you make money or get line counts when all the work is given to someone else!
Nothing seems fair anymore.  Does anyone else ever have this happen?
C-phone accounts aren't any better, not enough work to make line counts there either. Sigh
nm
Because, you IDIOTS, Dictaphone DOES NOT make the business deals. I don't know
where you all get this misinformation and why everybody latches on to it, but they get their own business.
Line counts with Dictaphone EXtext

How long should it take to get up to a decent daily line count with Dictaphone EXtext. I have started with a new company and it is not looking good yet. I am hoping it gets better and I can get up to 150 lph.  I have had my share of ESL doctors also so far, but they have been okay.  Thanks for any help or suggestions.

States right on dictaphone web site when you go for line count

that your company sets the line count.  Dictaphone does not!  and you have no idea what they set it at.

it is a sad state of affairs when transcription companies feel they have to steal from the little they already pay transcriptionists by manipulating line counts.  I know it is done, and really makes you wonder how these people sleep at night.  I guess they do it because they can.  If ever an industry needs to be governed by somebody it is this industry with all the flagrant stealing going on with national companies and plain immorality.  There are honest companies out there, I know I finally found one, but most nationals steal, lie, manipulate, and are totally dishonest, I also know because I have worked for a number of them.

I, too, went from MQ to TT, and line counts are much harder to get at TT with Dictaphone ExText.

I have always been called *firey fingers*, so know it is not me, as I am very fast and accurate on the keyboard.  Line count continually gets harder to achieve.  I know it depends on how the company has Dictaphone set the line count parameters -- whether to pay headers, footers, spaces, demos, normals, expanders, etc.

Also speech recognition using ExSpeech at TT is so cumbersome and awful.  Really made good money and line count with DQS speech editing.  Just must my opinion.  Other comments would be interesting.

Thanks for the info! Do you *feel* like you make more with a gross line v. character line? (nm)

Oh, they make money off us. Line rate is 17 cents a gross line.nm
z
I left MQ for TT. The base line rate was less at TT, but overall I make more per line with the
shift differential (I work second shift) and the incentive plan (I have never once failed to make at least an extra half cent per line on incentives - most of the time a penny). I was scared to death to make that move, as I had been with MQ since back in the Transcriptions Limited days. I have to say, though, that it was the best career move I have ever made and I have never, not once, regretted it.

I hope that was of some help.
Line rates for Dictaphone EXText Correction Client (speech)

What are the going rates for EXText correction client?  Anyone else working on this now?

Escription has been out of work. Dictaphone has lots of work.

Nuance is the parent company of Dictaphone. Dictaphone makes ExText.
s
I currently work for them on the dictaphone...
side and REALLY enjoy it. The benefits are good and the platform has been easy to work with. They also have holiday pay, vacation pay after 1 year, sick leave, and other benefits for fulltime workers. I am not sure what the starting pay range is, but they are an AWESOME company to work for. HTH!
Does Dictaphone obtain the accounts for the companies who use Dictaphone EXText?
I was just wondering if this is the same as it used to be.  Dictaphone installs the equipment in facilities and then gets a MTSO to take the account.  Therefore, the MT company never solicits for accounts, but Dictaphone notifes them when they have installed equipment in a hospital.
ExSpeech
I tried ExSpeech and after 3 months still could not make my lines. Went back to transcribing and I'm able to make just over my lines daily. This line subject was discussed here extensively in the past. TT said they were installing a new line counting progam but that still has not happened and with Jesse gone, I doubt it will for a long time.
I work for them on the dictaphone side...
and LOVE it. They have good benefits, and my supervisors on my primary and secondary accounts are AWESOME! Also, the platform is really good and even works with my shorthand. It also has it's own Expander (ESP), which I hear is really great also. HTH
That is it as Dictaphone doles out the work
so it is basically up to Dictaphone how much work all the Dictaphone MTSO's get. Like when there are huge backlogs on new accounts that is Dictaphone's call as to who gets what. So apparently Dictaphone is sending the work to other MTSO's now but it probably won't last long because they know we have to eat and pay bills.
Dictaphone Software/VR work
I am finding that I have to work 12 hours when doing VR work to come close to getting 1000 lines. Is anybody else having a hard time getting lines when doing VR work on this platform? I work for Focus and am just curious if it is just me.
I work on Dictaphone Editor...sm
But you will NEVER be able to sit back and relax and let the words fly by. Where you got that notion is beyond me. you still have to work. You still have to be careful. You will still need to make corrections. If a software was that good, there would be no need for MTs. I think you need to change your idea of how VR works or you will be sorely disappointed. I am sorry you have the wrong idea about it, and give it a few more weeks. Training on VR for 2 or 3 weeks is not long enough. I have been working on it for a year (MT for 15), and my production speed is STILL improving. Good luck to you.
And always make sure you don't make line
counts that amount to anything.  They always place you with impossible ESLs as soon as you start making decent money.
ExSpeech doing it, reckon?

Yes, here too.

I know they are getting hot and heavy into VR. Was not aware that it would be this soon when I hired on with them. My account is already going that direction. Is a little scary! Knew that it was a huge account, but never thought VR would replace me so soon.

Dictaphone is a company offshoring our work.
x
BUT don't they pay on a 55-ch line to make up for it? nm
xx
Not many & you make a lot more by the line anyway
:)
Do you make more that .15/line?

I worked for a company that sounds similar to your situation.  I worked so many odd hours and sometimes long hours to make 24 hour TAT. Made a whopping 11.00/hour.  In today's economy that's not much.  You don't get paid vacation, benefits, etc.  Hated it - in fact, I hate this profession and glad to be getting out soon.

Just not sure, as I would make less per line
at Transcend, a cent less and a cent and a quarter less for VR.
ExSpeech gets **turned up** and getting better jobs
Also, QA and Transcription Manager can do the same skipping as the MT's can.  I think TM is an MT, also, so she could be transcribing some during high volume times.
Extext nor Exspeech is as MT friendly as DQS
Editing on DQS is much more profitable and MT friendly than ExSpeech, too.   IMHO
ExSpeech and EditScript are 2 different platforms -- sm
but both are owned by Dictaphone as they bought Escription. Who is offering 5 cpl for editing on EditScript? Most companies are only offering 4.
Anyone worked on both eScription and ExSpeech?
I would like to know if one platform is better than the other.  I appreciate your input.
Yes ExSpeech from Extext and also Escription
.
You have been there TWO months and make 10c/line????
nm
I could not make line count
in 4 months
I make 0.105 per line, started at 0.08 but got a
few increases over the past few years.
I make .05 - 65 char line now, what should I be getting?
I have been working for almost 2 years.
Transcenders-Per line how much do you make?

Current Transcenders, how much do you make per line and how much experience do you have?

Is 9.5 cpl any good?

I currently make 3.0 cents per line
and I average about 2400 - 3000 lines per day.
I know...I can't even make my line count
each day. I just saw in the newsletter that some people are going over and that is causing this problem...but I think they have hired too many also. Such a shame!
Unfortunately I could not make line count w/o OT
:(
I make 9 cents per line. I am not

on an account with VR.   Regarding the platform, there are several.  Do you have one in particular?

THANKS! Now as soon as I make my line quota
and can afford something other than thrift stores or Walmart I WILL check them out. LOL

Seriously, thanks for the link. I will keep it.
TransTech gets work from Dictaphone/Nuance; not the piece of equipment, but the co.

TT uses Dictaphone's WordClient and ExSpeech platforms.

Dictaphone (the company) contracts with MTSO's to use their equipment and they (Dictaphone/Nuance) *divide* out the work each MTSO gets.  That is one of the reasons for OUR VERY LOW WORKLOAD anymore !!!!  We would be better off if we worked for a company who is not Dictaphone/Nuance-dependent for work.

The very few accounts Transtech has -- mostly  overflow accounts -- are Dictaphone/Nuance accounts.  We TransTech MT's wait for Dictaphone/Nuance to throw a few jobs our way, which is NOT happening.  All of TransTech MT's are making LESS than ever day-by-day, paycheck-by-paycheck.  Heads up ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Is it difficult to make line count at
nm
Depends. How many characters make up a line?
.
Are the ESLs really bad and can you make line count?
nm
How can you possibly make any $$ for 2 cents per line???

Am I missing something??
