You can't commit identify theft with general personal info
that is found in a resume. They would need to have more detailed info like ss#, which hopefully people aren't dumb enough to put in their resume anyway. Definitely if someone calls you asking for this, don't give it to them. However, as for the people that sent in their resume, it's not possible to steal your identity with the same stuff they could have just as easily gotten out of the phone book. Of course, I do believe that you should be cautious about your personal information, but there's no need to be so paranoid (like the Brian guy on the main page). People should be keeping a close eye on their credit reports anyway with the world the way it is now.
If they have stuff in weird locations, the techs will

Keep the flowery stuff for personal.
When you are applying for a position, you want to look as professional as possible. You want the company to know you are the best candidate for the job. It is not the time to be warm and fuzzy. I myself would be concerned if someone presented a flowery resume. I would assume they are too laidback and would be more interested in visiting and such. But if it works for you........
DO NOT POST PERSONAL INFORMATION. (SM)
If you cannot follow the policy of no e-mail addresses, names, or phone numbers, you will be banned.

A Reply By E-Mail service is available when you want to provide an avenue of contact.
Posting personal information
invites identity theft. It also shows the poster to be extremely naive. I would want to hire someone with a bit more business savvy.
Names and personal information not allowed (SM)
Everyone appreciates finding information on this board about companies.  Whether it's good or bad, it is always appreciated.  However, it is policy that people's names and personal contact information is not allowed, and those will be deleted.  Feel free to name the company and gripe/praise as you see fit, but please do not post specific names from these companies.  Thank you.
Are you serious? Would you like my personal information to check to see if I am lying???
Give me a break...I happen to like working at Keystrokes and if someone asks a question about them I will answer as best as I can...
are you serious? This board is for MTs to get information about companies from personal experience.

Does anyone have any personal information about Silent Type, Inc out of New Jersey, or

Van Belkum out of Michigan?  I posted on w/e, when not many on the board.  Will try again.   Thank you.

Sounds like a scam...I hope no one is giving personal information...nm

I don't blame you. We have personal information on those resumes, addresses, phone, etc. (sm)
and any fool can access those.

Hopefully they learned their lesson on this and will not post anymore resumes like that.
Not worried its going global. Worried its going to liars and thieves.
There IS a difference.
That is theft
If you sign a contract regarding equipment and do not return it, that is theft, and selling it is distributing stolen property. Theft over 500. is a felony.
That's fraud and theft
You need to report it.
Can you say "Identity Theft"
On MSNBC about identity theft. They woo stupid people in the US with marriage proposals and fake pics, then woo them to accept packages for them that are bought with stolen credit card numbers, then the US pigeons ship the merchandise overseas at their own expense because they believe they are engaged to someone who doesn't even exist.

If there is a re-run on MSNBC To Catch an ID Thief everyone should watch it. Amazing.

Imagine what these offshore MTs could do with the patients' SSN and birthdates.
Records theft

All the more reason why we should as MT's in this United States of America band together, go to Washington DC and protest!!!..I am more than fed up with seeing our skills and profession as a whole ****ardized by outsourcing.  I think it would be a good idea for us MT's on this board to seriously consider a sound strategy we can utilize to make our leaders listen to us and take us seriously.  Perhaps this is wishful thinking on my part but if we could put something together, I for one would be willing to WALK to DC if I had to (and with the price of gas out of control; I might have to) - to make ourselves heard.

records theft

Amen

Identity theft

I would have to wonder if there has ever been an MT convicted of identify theft?  I don't know but I doubt it.  However, that would make a good excuse for a company, not just MT, to invade the privacy of their employees.....

Obviously I'm not painting too many gourds today.  LOL  I'm coping with the retiree syndrome..........a pretty sad time really....and just feel like chatting but having a migraine trying to get a foot hold, I don't feel like going anywhere.

identity theft is huge
and always on my mind with these things.
Info posted on the net/identity theft
At least our county auditor has gotten smart and removed a lot of info off line.  He got slapped with a huge lawsuit after 6 people complained of identy theft relating to their divorce/traffic/ civil matter info being posted.  Heck, all a thief needs to do is go in and pick out an identity...you get all the basic info you need to become someone your not
Identity theft is a big in the medical field. nm

Would a company ask an MT to commit identity theft?
Why would anyone do this or ask someone else to do this?  I do not understand.
identify theft - not sure what world you live in
but they can steal your identify with resume information - all they need is name address and telephone number. With past employers, one phone call gets them anything else they need. It is the same information on an envelope they get out of your garbage can, or on a prescription bottle. We do not need to be paranoid - but you need to be realistic too.
It is in MOST STATES, called THEFT OF SERVICE, FRAUD - nm

I wonder if those places ABC was talking about selling bulk identity theft...
information online with the internet could be getting the information from health records overseas. The identity theft is sold in bulk to bidders on the internet from overseas. ABC I think had a special on it but never did identify where all of this information was gleaned. Something to consider I guess

Like I said -- I'm not worried. No need for you to, either! :)
..
Worried
I was told pay day was 1st and 15th. Do not know if pay day is different for employee vs. IC. They pay from 2 weeks behind. Your invoice from the 1st does not get paid until the 15th. It takes a LONG time to get paid.
Worried
I had an invoice for 2 days work on 11/1 and did receive that until 11/25. Two more invoices in since then and still have not received my first 2 week paycheck. I am functioning on no funds at present.
Worried at QT also. SM
I also feel like things are happening and we are being kept in the dark. The work and the pay are there and that's good. I don't like unnecessary e-mails, so that is good, but instead these days it seems that the lack of communication is ominous. It seems that they are cutting back on every expense that they possibly can. Raises seem to have stopped quite a while ago. Why discontinue the IRA program if everything is fine? Is the rumor true that they only hire ICs now? I am a little worried, but I hope the company is okay because I still would not want to go elsewhere.
I'm worried about that too.

To the nut job who was so worried....

about someone stealing something that belonged to them in the first place -- YOU'RE A MEAN 'OL A$$HOLE!!!!

I'm sure I'll be kicked off of here now, but it's worth it ;)

I'm a little worried also
I worked in the hospital for 3 years before they sent the MTs home. Same full benefits, hourly pay, 10h PTO accured every 2 weeks, cable and 2nd phone line for Lanier paid by company; I use company computer and Lanier system, and union ratifies our contract every 3 yrs.

I will be moving to another state and, therefore will no longer be employed by the hospital so I will be working under 1 of our current vendors being I already know the doctors; the pay will be 11 cpl, but of course, now I pay my own medical/dental. I can still make good money being I am familiar with the hospital, but I think the medical/dental part is going to put a big dent in my pocket. The good thing is, coming from in house, it's good to know when the vendors are working (like weekends and evenings) where I can make jump in and make the best money.

I have an IC job where I am the only MT on the account so that will help financially (I HOPE)

SCARRRY
Worried a bit too
I work at Webmedx too and I absolutely love my job! I love my supervisor and I love the people at Webmedx, but I too am concerned about the lack of work.  I have been having to jump on when it is not my regular shift to get my lines and in the last 2 pay checks I have not made my line counts. I have several accounts too.  I am hanging in there for now though, because I love it, just hope it gets better.
Worried too
Sounds like we may be on the same accounts. I actually did get a part-time job that I'll be starting soon. I'm not going to leave Webmedx, just going to supplement my income because this is a trend at all companies that I don't see ending any time soon.
worried too

This is a problem that Webmedx really needs to address.  I am not sure what the answer is, I just know that there are a lot of people who cannot pay their bills.

I am seriously worried about it -
In fact, I went and got an inhouse job this week that is part time and only pays me half of what I average typing at home hourly, but I know those 20 hours a week will be guaranteed pay. I am down right now about $600 for the pay period with only 2 days left to go. If those 2 days are anything like the last 2 weeks, I will end up $800 down for the 2 weeks.

I have the same thoughts that if you cannot pay for food and the basic necessities of life, then you won't be going to the doctor unless it is no longer an option. All these elective procedures are over for awhile - I wonder how many people will miss being diagnosed early for something and will end up losing their life anyway because they could not afford their routine care? I guess that is when our work will pick back up...

No, just worried. Being ignored.
Am I being paranoid? Yeah, guess that's it. Doesn't matter that they don't return my call.
Not worried

I have all documentation that they chose to let me go in their illegal manner and know that unemployment will be disgusted with them.

Yeh, worried about that as it has been at
the place I work now for the last, oh, probably 7 years and the dictation just keeps getting heavier.
Is this weird?
I am new to this board and new to transcription in general, so let me know if this is usual behavior for companies that hire new graduates.  I was hired by a company a few months ago as an IC and worked for them for a week.  I was told that my accuracy was not high enough and was offered the chance to move to a RAD account.  I said I wanted to try it and she never sent me my login information even after I emailed her several times.  She kept telling me she was waiting for it and that I would get it soon.  It has now been several months and I haven't heard from her.  However, she did send my first (and final, apparently) check with $30 deducted from it for a pedal she said I needed that she had sent to me awhile back.  Anyway, this is probably a stupid question but do I need to contact her at all regarding dissolving my contract?  It seemed to me like she didn't think my accuracy was good enough and just wanted to drop me like a hot potato...has this ever happened to anyone?
It just seemed too weird to me
I heard the same thing, I really liked her and they fired her for that, I did not feel comfortable with OSi after that.
Weird?
If you thought it was weird why not get clarification, ask questions!! You can get good lines on escription if you read fairly fast, and its easier on the hands. Doesn't sound like you're in too much of a rush to go to work.
Weird
That is very weird. I've always used p.o. when I work for them. In fact, p.o. is on a list they sent me of approved abbreviations that they use! It is definitely not on the forbidden list. I hope you get it straightened out and that I never run into that QA person!
This is weird
I didn't see anything either that referenced what you are talking about. Why do you feel the need to post here in response to KS posts. Why don't you get a thread going about your own company and let people respond there about their experience instead. Happy for you too that you have found your place.
Weird
I sent her my resume, she was very interested and said she would call me on Friday or Monday.  She did not call on Friday or Monday.  Tuesday I received an e-mail in which she indicated she would call me later in the day.  Then, I received another e-mail later in the day that said that she would have to get back to me on Wednesday because her computer crashed.  Haven't heard a thing since.  This is very strange.  Even if she does get a hold of me now, I think I will pass.  I don't like being hung out to dry, as I feel she would not want to be hung out to dry.  I also feel it is very rude.
That's really weird.....
I have 2 accounts at Keystrokes, both on ExText, and I just get whatever jobs are highest priority first...never heard of picking unassigned jobs. That sounds weird to me.
Now that's weird...
When I worked there a couple of years ago and wanted to set up a second computer and router, I asked their help desk for advice and they not only helped me set it up, they advised me on the best router to buy. Strongly dislike Spheris and their ever down-spiraling pay, but must say their help desk was great.
Something is weird about them..
I tested about a year ago and they said I failed, uh yeah okay with 20 years' experience.  So then I get an e-mail a week later asking me to test again because the test was being scored wrong.  Needless to say, if they can't even test properly, what else can they not do properly?  Hmmm... makes ya' wonder don't it - heehee!
Seemed a little weird to me..
But knew right away I with my experience was not interested.  Sorry.
weird
Because when I was hired by FN, they said it was either a Saturday or Sunday rotation, didn't know having weekends off was an option, especially in this business. I don't get calls on my day off. I work my one day on the weekend (more if I want more $$$) and that's it.
