Cherrypicking is when you work from a pool of jobs and being able to reject the worst jobs to those
,
They must deduct FEDERAL taxes.. NOT STATE taxes.. if they took out state taxes.. it would be FLORID
which would only have to be refunded to you for you to pay YOUR state what you owe them which is nothing but a pain... be glad they weren't handling your state tax.. and I think in this case.. if someone at the IRS told you they have to deduct YOUR states taxes.. it is that person who is uneducated... they only have to deduce federal income tax

8 cpl for IC work? And I get to pay my own taxes too - sheesh nm

My weekly paycheck was $1800 before taxes - IC work. sm
It can be done with own accounts working no more than 8 hours a day!
I work for a company in Florida too who gladly pays state taxes because
they know it is the law.
That is why I work 2 jobs, 1 FT and
1 PT, so I NEVER run out of work.  If 1 runs out, I switch to the other.  It is working out great.  Ya got to keep ya U-know-what covered. (Hope I'm not banned for that.)
PT IC's who work 2 or more jobs (sm)
What kind of interesting schedules do you keep?  Do you work X amount of lines on X days?  Days versus evenings?  Weekend sometimes?  Just trying to get an idea and be creative with my scheduled and would love to hear how you manage to juggle...thanks!
Would you work two jobs if the first

says you cannot work for anyone else as long as you work for them and that all your transcription time must be for them only?  This includes above a 40-hour week.  Do you think they'd find out if I did?  I am thinking of it because of the account I'm on and cannot make any money with.

My account is very complicated and they are always asking for extra help on it and it does not pay well.  The account specs and headers are very intricate.  You are supposed to know when dictators want stuff that they don't even ask for and the specs are constantly changed and updatead.  The company does not pay for spaces or headers.  I made 5.39 cents yesterday for two hours work.  That's nuts.  I've got two years experience and am not toally new, but can't make any money on this account and the company can't hardly keep anyone on it either.  They don't seem to understand why they can't anyone and keep saying is it such a nice account.  Duh!

Can you work both jobs until you
figure out if Keystrokes is on the up and up.  I have been burned so many times and understand how you feel;however, every time someone posted on this board and said to be careful, I have learned to listen.  I was warned against Precyse, Spheris, Medquist and did not listen and went broke with those companies because I did not listen, but you also have to take what others say with a gain of salt and do what is going to help you.  You said you make good money right now, well you have your answer.  I would stay put or work them both until you are 100% sure about Keystrokes.
Not everyone is able to work 2 jobs or even 3 sm
due to family responsibilities, personal health issues and/or other commitments. They took a job with TT and have had more or less enough to work to keep them happy. TT is their only source of income and in some cases, they are the sole wage earner, so be nice. Maybe TT should go ahead and lay off some people instead of going with the low work no work issue so people can collect unemployment and maybe food stamps for those who need it. I myself would give take a layoff at TT so someone with children could have enough work to put food on their table, even though I need the money as well. No need to flame me, that is just my own opinion.
No, you should not have to work 3 jobs
I think that if those of you who have to try to juggle multiple jobs were to get an on-site job in whatever field, you would be surprised to learn that nowdays working at home is not all it's cracked up to be.  I never tried it but I think juggling 2 or 3 jobs would leave no time for a life.  Believe me life is short. Too short to put up with the nonsense feast or famine.  There has always been feast and famine but it used to be that the feast times were the norm.  The famines were a welcome relief, not meaning out of work totally, but maybe a sacrifice of a few hundred lines during a pay period.
I don't even work there, but if there are 300 jobs
can't the company share that work with some of the others out of work? Seems kind of one sided to me. My observation is you like to gloat in front of those who have little or no work. Quite possibly you could mention to the company that others need work as well as you.
I work 2 jobs, get DD on both and never pay a fee!..sm
I think there are only a few companies left who actually charge for DD, but those are probably the ones who are always in question.
Then what? MTs need jobs & will still work for them,
q
For those who work 2 or more jobs and they both want extra work? sm
Do you automatically give it to the one you do full time or the one that pays the most?  Feel like there is some loyalty to the one who gives me benefits.  How do you all do it?
Maybe we all don't need to work two jobs, or care to.

Asking about dialup, work, jobs, etc. (SM)
If you are looking for a job, please read the job ads on the Job Seeker's board. The ads are very descriptive and have contact information for your convenience.

Otherwise, the Company board is for asking about a specific company (or companies).

Does anybody work two jobs? Advice please :)

I work as an employee for a company with a 12-hour window, 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 1200 lines per day minimum.  I've been offered something local to do on my own, approximately 1200 lines per day of work, but I would have the entire 24 hours to do it.

If I get my first job done at 1 p.m., I could get the other lines done in 5-6 hours max.  Geez...I don't know.  I'm probably going to kill myself doing this, aren't I?  I was just calculating this as I was typing and didn't realize what a long day that would be.

Does anybody else do this?  If so, how is it working for you?   Do you feel burned out?  I would really like to manage this somehow but want to be realistic.  Any advice from someone who has done this or is successfully making something like this work would be appreciated!   The extra money would be soooo nice right now.

I would work 2 jobs, but the job you describe above would not be one of them!
I don't believe I would do the job you described at all...first, second, or third!
so you work 2 jobs to make that much

If HL people know they are going to be losing their jobs, why are they still doing work for them?
:+
I usually work both jobs until I determine that the new job is really all I thought it would be. nm

legit work at home jobs

i have worked for west.com - made $12 - $14 per hour, paid every 2 weeks

hope this will help

We have work. I've been in your shoes though with other jobs
They are screaming desperately, I get the job, and the second day of the job, there is no work so I sat there all afternoon twiddling my thumbs. By day 3, when I was told there was only 3 reports to do, I quit. Life's too short to waste my time and energy.
Yes. Check the # of jobs...0, 4, 21, etc., the words OT are there. The work soon won't be.
This happens often. Yes, it says OT is offered on an account, but there may be 0 jobs available. They absolutely do not owe us any OT at all ever, but it would be nice to get 40 hours in during your posted availability and not have to constantly flex to do so. People have other obligations in life besides Webmedx.
I like to work 2 part time jobs. sm
I don't like to put all my eggs in one basket. (Easter eggs LOL!)  That way if I lose one I still have one to fall back on.  Been burned too many times between offshoring and VR.
Why do companies advertise for jobs if they have no work?

I lost my job with a big offshoring company a couple of months ago.  I knew it was coming so I started applying for jobs and sending my resume for posted jobs.  The company that hired me responded to my resume submission within 2 HOURS and I was hired the next day.  They had an immediate need, speciality I love, good pay.  Now, a couple of months later I am getting calls and e mails from companies that I applied to months ago.  One recruiter said, I don't know when we received your application, it was probably 90 days ago.  During this same time period I have seen the Q advertise twice, claiming they have steady work (????)  Of course, after reading posts here I would not even consider any offer from them.  A lady from Spheris e mailed and ask that I let her know a time I could interview some time in the next several weeks.

I don't get it.  If you do not have work, why are you posting jobs?  I would consider this a big red flag.

There IS work out there, hundreds of jobs right now. Be a squeaky wheel!

Jobs just trickling in here, too. IC's have decided to show up for work! nm

Work for a company that does not offshore. Save our jobs.
nm
Work both jobs for awhile, part time for the new one. Most
of the MTSO will understand your reluctance to quit your old job until you are sure the new one will work. I have worked for two companies in the past year and told both that I would have to work part time until I was comfortable quitting my old job. I ended up keeping my old job because the new ones didn't work out. Also, 1 cpl decrease in pay isn't that much to make up if the work is good. Hopefully, you won't have to sit around waiting for work, and you can follow the BOS which will be easier for you and probably help you transcribe fater.
they are constantly out of work. Will show 40 jobs and a minute later none.

The jobs I have doing acute care work seem to be quite busy. sm

The clinic work that I do is still low, but that was discussed below ... I don't think it has anything to do with the holidays, and I do not care anymore.

Generally, probably hospital work is the way to go as far as a steady stream of work.  With clinic work, doctors can take off, shut down totally for holidays, etc., which leaves a big hole, obviously.  That's just my opinion, of course.

It would be great to have just one great job you could rely on to always give you a nice fat check each time, but I am beginning to realize if I truly want to be safe, I need to hedge my bets with several other jobs as well.  At least until I win the lottery

work is decreasing because VR is replacing 10 MT's with 2 and India et al is taking 2 jobs out

AMEN TO THAT.. I worry all the time how fast our jobs are dwindling down thanks to work going
to other countries and more companies going to the voice recognition programs. Obviously, they will still need proofreaders and editors for the VR stuff, but not as many people. I feel like someday our jobs will just be gone so yes invest your money into nursing or something. Anything else medical is a win-win situation, just not transcription as a whole.
Don't think any do except for those in-house jobs. Some QA jobs are paid hourly. nm
s
They didn't take our jobs, QT gave them our jobs. The account is now
back in the hands of US MTs, or will be in just a couple of weeks.
Are MTs that are looking for jobs finding good jobs right now with everyone looking or is it
getting more difficult to find a good job.  I am most interested in jobs for experienced MTs with more than 10 years service.  I wonder if it is better to put a resume on or just keeping applying or what is the best way to go about this.
i work 3 part-time jobs now. it can be confusing if you are learning both at the same time, but sm
other than that not a problem for me. best to get one down before starting to other or you might become overwhelmed.
Look at all the jobs on the jobs boards.
You can find a job and won't have to apply for unemployment. You would be surprised how many companies need qualified MTs! Go get 'em and get 'em now!

Don't wait until the 11th hour. Too many needs to put your hat in the unemployment slot.

What they lost is our gain.

Taxes

When you work for someone you STILL PAY YOUR TAXES, your employer does NOT except for the 7.5 SS.  Look at your pay check, are not taxed withheld??? As an IC you are RESPONSIBLE for withholding your own taxes and sending them in but either as an employee or a IC -- you still PAY them, except for the 7.5 of social security.   Sorry but it bugs me when people say as an IC you pay your own taxes as it is incorrect -- you are RESPONSIBLE for paying your own taxes.  With your write off's, flexibility and most of the time more pay it does cover the extra SS you have to pay.  Been doing it for almost 20 years.

SE and taxes
I'm seriously considering accepting a job as an SE.  The employer holds and pays social security but not income tax or other federal tax.  My state has no income tax, but I was wondering if I would have to pay Medicare tax as well as withholding tax.  Also, is there a way to pay via IRS monthly or bimonthly rather than quarterly.  This is new to me and I'm a little spooked. If I would have to pay Medicare, does anyone know what percent that is.  I understand I should hold or pay 25% roughly for withholding.  Help please.
Taxes
Absolutely and you do not have to be only an IC for this write off. Even if you are an employee expenses that you incur in order to perform your job which are not reimbursed by your employer are all eligible. I write off my ink cartridges, printer paper, internet service, etc.
Taxes
I really believe a sharp CPA is worth every penny.
Taxes
It is my understanding that if the state your company is located in does not have a sales tax - then they do not handle the state taxes period. Examples would be companies located in Florida and I think Tennessee.

Taxes
The cost is the same to the employee either way, it is just the convenience of not having to deal with it. Whether they deduct it out of your check and pay it or whether they give you the full amount and you deduct it - either way you owe it and have to pay it. Of course it is less convenient to file quarterly taxes. According to my CPA the employer does not have to withhold if their state does not have state income tax. The employee is responsible for paying quarterly in order to avoid any late fines. Maybe each state has their own standards but I can't imagine all these companies in states without state taxes would be getting away with not withholding if that were the case. By the way, having more held out of hubbies return sounds like a good idea to me if you are filing jointly anyway.

Taxes
I wonder then, since this seems to be different state to state, if some of these companies would legally be able to just not employee MTs from states who require the employer, regardless of location, to handle the state taxes. I could see them thinking the paperwork/accounting costs would not be worth it.
SS taxes
just taken out of pay, you have to use bayscribe, but certain programs they can import into bayscribe and yes, they will if asked provide sample reports.
