Just passing along some wisdom

If any or all of you are really thinking about doing anything, I would get some kind of network going outside of all MT posts such as this.......since now that we all know that the suits are watching and listening.

WORDS OF WISDOM

To all you hard working MTs out there.

I've been in the business too long not to have learned something. I still have not found a decent, honest and fair MT company and this is after 20 years. They require tons of qualifications out of you but in return what do you get? I don't trust ANY of them! They're  in it for the quick buck and don't give a rat's ass about you. I long for the those old days when hospitals had their own transcription departments and MTs had benefits and some security. The MT companies now want you to have all this bunch of equipment, each has their own software (this drives me crazy), they expect at the very least 98% accuracy, fast transcription, and want you to stay put at your chair all day IN CASE work comes pouring in. They want you to have your own books, your own C-Phone, unlimited long distance, high speed internet, etc. Why don't YOU demand the same things they expect of you? We all know doctors hate to dictate because there's no money to be made there. The archive departments have to get on their backs every month, so, they come in and dictate a ton of charts and you can't understand a frickin word they're saying and God forbid the ESLs...but you see, the company you're working for doesn't care and the doctors don't care. You need to hold these companies at much greater standards than you do now. Affirm yourselves, question them, get it in writing, and don't take less than what you believe you're worth! Stand up to them for once, and you'll stop this abuse. After all, it is your life and your revenues are as important as theirs. Report them to everyone you can. They are not honest and have no integrity although they will try to convince you that working for them will be the greatest thing that happened to you. C'mon....wake up girls! Stand up and tell them that we are not going to take this anymore. If docs can't talk or write, and the companies know this, they'll shove it on to you...yes, you at home, working soooooo hard to do a good job.....I'm out of this now and will never go back because to home working because THEY can't pass MY test!

Love you all but please wake up!

Monique

No words of wisdom, but my experience is...
The better the dictator the fasting I sail through them. If I get a particularly bad dictator, usually ESL, my production comes to a grinding halt and I am not sure how to alleviate that. I just know if I get a clean report it really helps to keep going. All it takes is one awful one that I practically have to re-type and my motivation is blown. I wish you luck. One thing I do is that I just immediately hit the next job instead of waiting for the next one to load. I unload and download at the same time.
Words of wisdom or advice
I've just been offered a position at Transtech. I currently work at Medquist. Anyone have anything to offer as far as comparisons between the 2 companies. I've read some posts about Transtech on here, and it seems like mostly good things. I guess I'm just nervous about changing jobs. I know the grass isn't always greener, so I'm struggling with the whole decision.
Thanks so much, both very good advice, words of wisdom:)
:)
I am just passing through
but this is the reason I don't come here much anymore. I can't take the ugliness. A bunch of you need to suck it up and get to work. Fluff up, baby. Join the human race. Get a job at Wal-Mart. I did. Makin' as much as when I was QA. Try it. You get all the candy you can eat when they ain't lookin'and the girls in the deli slip me a couple of chicken fingers every so often. Good living. Seizure.
Merely passing on the law

For those who have found themselves at a brick wall.

To Passing Through MT
No, he left in January of 2006!!
Agree with Passing Through
I was with TransHealth for one week and knew it was not for me!!  You are so right, sound quality was excruciating, did not get feedback in a timely manner on QA and when you start everything goes to QA.  I had so many reports that they did not have the time right then to get to them and told me to quit typing!!  Please, this was my livelihood.  I was always following up with things they should have been.  Was not getting anywhere with reports getting QA'd so went above them. I was out of there before I wasted any more of my time or...........theirs.  They made it sound like it was my computer, my headphones or maybe even me that the quality was so terrible.  It sounded like they had never had that problem before.  Get REAL!!  That was even with foreign docs in radiology..  Was about to pull my hair out and getting no where.  Hope this helps.
pssst .... keep passing through - something better
will come along. I used to work for them. Some people like it, it just depends on what accounts they have. But they also offshore a lot of the work if they can't fill the need for US transcriptionists
Are you passing out Koolaid?
You sound rather oracle-esque
Wanna share your words of wisdom on who these companies are so we can be spared...

The trend is passing of indian MTs as US
I am not saying in this exact case and/or company, but many times over this has happened. Buy up the US based company and use the good US MTs to edit the crap and save big bucks on the Indian MTs. Clients don't know it is happening, but those that inadvertently find out will drop them...sometimes.

Again, not every company has done this but MANY have. I understand the fears, and i would never work for any organization that offshores or supports that in any way.
It's a large company, Passing, SM
offering a variety of opportunities and mixed experiences. Different platforms, different managers, and different accounts all over the country. Transcend kept me happy with lots of good work for a long time before my account went offshore without notice. I was then switched to another very good and interesting account, where the way the lines were counted was adjusted down again without notice (by the same account manager). If that hadn't happened, I'd be there still, and I have no doubt that the many people who say it's a great company are honestly reflecting their own experiences.

Knowing what I do, if I were you I'd go ahead with the training but, as with any company, be firm up front that as a pro you expect to be assigned to good accounts with lots of work. Then call on them immediately (first 2 days) to correct the situation if they are not, and mean it. I've never been in MT personnel, but I imagine they hire a lot of people who don't pan out, engendering an attitude that adversely affects the way many others are treated before they have a chance to prove themselves. If they allow it. Best wishes.
Passing through--update when you decide on a company please. sm
I'm not too thrilled with Wx myself and would like to see what a fellow ex-Qer finds a good company. Thanks.
You DO get a line rate increase for passing the CMT at Webmedx. sm
Ask your supervisor.
