MT Pay

Good for you!  If everyone, MT or not, would live as you (and I) do, there wouldn't be so much stressing over money.

That said, let me tell you what it was like when MTs were paid hourly.....first I started working in a hospital at age 14 washing dishes at 35 cents per hour (yes, that's right).  At 16 I was pronoted to nurse's aid and paid 75 cents per hour.  At 17 I moved to the business office and received $1.00 per hour; that is the wage I received for training as an MT.  Became a good MT and was raised to $1.25.  At 23 I was divorced with THREE kids and never got one dime in welfare, food stamps, etc.  except one of the Nuns in the hospital where I worked would often make a box supper for me to take home for me and the kids.  Eventually moved to Phoenix where the hospital where I got a job paid $1.75 per hour.  Yes, we got measley raises.  About 1974 moved to Houston and answered an ad by Transcriber Corporation, got hired and started working on production.  WHOOPEEE  I think I was paid $1 per page then and realized that production pay was a good thing.  The rest is history.  The thing is I grew up poorer than dirt (not even any indoor plumbing or water!)  I vowed I would never have to struggle with money in my old age as my parents did so the Jones be hanged!!!  Let 'em have their big houses and cars and big DEBTS.

Now, are you REALLY sure you'd like to go back to being paid hourly?  Yes we had insurance, HOSPITAL insurance, we paid doctor's visits out of our own pocket so we didn't go to the doc with snotty noses.

Yes, I'm making about the same hourly that I made in the 80s and 90s but in this day and age when I can average $30+ (working time, not total time signed in to the account) I guess I can't complain.  And let me add that I worked VERY hard to learn all I could and become if not THE best MT, at least up there among the best.  You can't throw me a report type I can't do nor an accent I can't do.  This because I made it a point to take the most difficult dictators (and I've  had some doozies).

Did anyone hear about the Circuit City employees?  If not there were like 7,000 of them laid off and they can reapply after 3 months, IF there are any jobs for them, at a LOWER wage.

Sorry folks, this country, not just MT is going to Haedes in a  handbasket and until we the people realize that and stand up for America, expect it to get worse.  Matter-of-fact I expect things WILL get worse.  But most people prefer to support the Wal-Mart mentality.  As for me, I refuse to shop there.  I will continue to take my business to local businesses even though it may cost a few cents more.  Back at the time Nafta was being passed my husband, a union worker, had a bumper sticker, which is still on his 10 year old pickup, that said, No NAFTA, the job you save WILL be your own.  Danged if he wasn't right.

Now stop whining, get off your butt and start working and spend your spare time writing our corrupt politicians.  Do something to change the course of America or there isn't going to be any America left for your children!
