Maybe they mean sign in and out for breaks etc to keep track of the 8 hours that you are to work. nm

I DO keep track, and work long hours, but only
If I say I can't do the minimum line count in 8 hours, they say I'm too slow. But if I eliminate quality (by not proofing or not correcting grammar, and just typing verbatim) then I hear about that, too. They just say to work harder, work faster.

The MTSO's only care about their precious TAT and volume. What we have to do to ourselves in order to accomplish THEIR goals is of no importance to them.

The only way it ever will be is if someday they happen to get put under a microscope like other fraudulent US businesses have, lately.

What I wouldn't give to see the fat-cats at AHDI up in front of Congress trying to explain themselves some fine day. Could happen.
I personally can't sit for 4 hours at a time. I work 2 hous, sign off and take a short break.

It might just be fixing something to drink or starting a load of laundry.  If you did something like that then you wouldn't have to worry about a disconnect and possibly losing a report.

Then we ALL need to start keeping track of our hours and anything that falls
below minimum wage - we need to start reporting these companies - don't care if this is caused only because of a decrease in starting VR or whatever causes it, no work, downtime if not paid, EVERYTHING included.  I do believe that might get the MTSOs attention.  They can't fire us all.  Looks like India MT situation might be in trouble so the MTSOs should be very cautious that perhaps they can't rely on offshore forever in the future.
I just keep track of my main break. I don't keep track
of every interruption during my shift, that would be ridiculous. Im not gonna log every potty break, or phone call I have to take. I take 20-30 mins for my dinner break and that is what I log on my sheet.
Sorry, I work 15 hours a day 5 days a week and 5 hours the other 2, when I come here I dont proof.
nm
the day has 24 hours, I work only 6-8 hours, so, lots of time to post...nm
nm
10-15 an hour for 8 hours is better than nothing for 8 hours when there is no work.

They do have problems with running out of work. You are never sure when you sign
in if there will be anything there.  The sound leaves a lot to be desired on their accounts.  Not sure what the problem is.  I only work PT and that is all I care to do with them.

Your point is...? If I sign a contract to work a schedule...sm

...then I am obligated to work that schedule.

If I happen to get all my lines in during 4 hours, then fantastic for me - but if I have contracted to be on for 6 hours, I still need to be on for 6 hours.  A schedule is a schedule.

I was just making the point that I do not have to actually punch in and punch out.

i wouldn't sign it, but cross that out and sign
the rest
I didn't sign up to work Thanksgiving, but I will in the evening for a while at least. I heard s
that so many MTs want to work the morning hours that there will be almost no MTs to cover any evening work. I heard like only about 1.2 MTs per account. If there is work, I'll have it to be sure.
How it breaks down...... sm
I stated earlier that I had almost 20 years in the business; I have 17 to be exact with 10 years as an independent contractor with my own accounts and 7 years working for various national and smaller companies. I started out with Edix and HealthScribe, so I have been through the acquisitions and merger thing as well. I have been with Webmedx for less than a year, and no, I am NOT in management. I have been in management at 2 other companies in the past, however.

I still see technology as the driving force of this industry because it is what brings about the changes we are all seeing right now. The MT, in my opinion, is the backbone of the industry, but that backbone has to be flexible enough to accommodate the changes as they occur. ASR is a major change in our industry right now, and yes, it does put out some garbage. It will never be perfected to the point that there is no need for it to be cleaned up by good, knowledgable MTs who are willing to accept the challenge of learning new things. I don't like it any more than anyone else because it has cut into my earnings because of the lower pay rate, but I realize that I must accept that challenge if I want to continue in this business. No one of us can make ASR go away, unless of course one has one's own accounts and can call most of the shots. I love medical transcription and realize that I must make changes within myself to meet the ongoing changes within the field or I will find myself out of a job. Like I said before, I may have to eat my words one day, but until that day, I will strive to make myself as marketable in this industry as possible.
You take lots of breaks!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Sorry but the tax breaks have been there for years. (nm)
NM
That's exactly what I was going to say. Yes, I work at least 12 hours a day, sometimes 15 hours
to get all of my line count in because I have so many interruptions in my day.  There is no way I would tell my company this nor expect them to pay me OT that they never asked you to do. Unless, I was called by my supervisor and asked to work extra for OT, I would never just take it upon myself to work and expect to be paid.  If you were not authorized to work OT, then your not getting paid. Point blank. I do not work at TT, but I have worked at enough jobs, at home as an MT and otherwise outside of home, that all have the same policy, your paid OT when your asked to work it. It's it is just a case of not being able to get your required line count in 8 hours, then maybe your in the wrong profession or possibly just the wrong company/account for you. This just seems bizarre to me. Just tell yourself, your not getting paid for OT because they aren't approving it so don't work it. Again, if you were asked to work OT, told it would be OT, and then they ask you not to record it, I'd pitch a fit, but from what I see, you've done this on your own.
Breaks & Line Count

The company I work for lets us take our breaks, but our line count is still based on 8 hours.  They deduct the 1/2 hour for lunch (shift is 8.5 hours) but don't consider our break time, so isn't that basically like we really aren't getting breaks since we are penalized for it paywise?

Apprectiate any thoughts on this and if it is standard.

interesting reading, don't know if this varies by state as overtime laws do, but anyway...
I know about the tax breaks, but what about taxes for overseas, .... I know companies don't pay t
I know companies don't pay taxes for them. So, is it also an advantage to overseas jobs for companies not to have to pay insurance, taxes, social security? Do you know how many American jobs are overseas with not one of them paying Social Security? I am also not for illegal immigrants per se but my heart goes out to people in a strange land who can't find anything but menial work trying to get out of a desperate situation in Mexico (it must be desperate to go to the extremes to get over here), and of course can't get a Social Security card, driver's license. Surely it is humanitarian to care for these people.

The thing is, even voting for the one who says they will stop it (and it is not Hillary Clinton, she has even gone overseas to promote jobs to countries), the businesses have the money for lobbying and big business is not going to go down without a HUGE fight.
you borrowed money from someone who breaks legs?
I know you're probably kidding about the breaking legs. If you've been paying payments for 4 years, shouldn't you have that thing about paid off?
Why would anyone work 8 hours a week. The poster above said 16 or 24 hours a week.
:
No one is changed to desk or have to post potty breaks. Probably better than ever,
zz
All nationals I work for you only work 40 hours unless they approve overtime.
x
Actually, companies get BIG tax breaks if they do offshore thanks to Prez Bush; who we all know supp
x
Talk to a tax guy. There are plenty of tax breaks, supplies, mortgage, electric,
;P
Isnt it sad. We just want to go to work every day on our shift, work our 8 hours and be done with it
Instead I sit here hours hoping the Indians leave some work for us so we can at least get our 8 hours in. Nothing like logging onto you shift and being told no work. Nice.
they cant "make you work certain hours" but they can find someone that is willing to work them
If not, they dont have to hire you as IC or anything for that matter. So yes it is perfectly legal.

If she hires you as an IC and it doesn't state in your contract when she needs that particular IC coverage and she then dictates what hours you work, she cannot do that.

But she can refuse to hire you if you don't provide the coverage that she is looking for.

track changes
Ok, I am correcting one of my girls documents.  I am trying to use track changes.  After i email this to her i want to get rid of the red marks, save, and send to my client.  How do i get rid of these red marks?
NOW you are on the right track.
As to noncompete agreements? They are generally not enforceable IF they are too broad - and that's where an attorney comes in - for interpretation. IF YOU DON'T target THEIR clients, you are free to solicit business where you choose. So bypass the legal stuff and solicit your OWN, different clients...

You should ALSO contact your reps in congress - in a serious professional can I have a meeting type of way. Start with your local representative and be prepared to some serious homework. This is if you want to undertsanding why and how offshoring exists. Not as simple as some would have you believe.

Good luck!
What hours do you work?
Also, which days? I was thinking of applying with this company. Maybe you could switch your schedule around a little.
They do want you to work the hours (sm)
you have committed to.  If you do that, you shouldn't have any problems making your lines - minimum 6600 per week.
How many hours do you work
between the 3? I have enough trouble working part-time at one and taking care of 3 kids, a dog, my house and husband. How do you do it?
I work 35 hours

The schedules used to be based on 35 hours a week, 172 lines per hour.  I don't know if this has changed with the new account.  It is something you need to discuss with the recruiter/supervisor on your interview.

I type well above 12,000 lines per pay period. So, it is definitely possible.

and how many hours do you work...100? LOL
x
I only work 6 hours a day - M-F. nm
x
They can get away with it, if they need someone to work those hours

then they can give the work to whoever is there to do it.  If you contract to paint someone's house, you are going to do it when they say you can not when you want to do it.  The customer has a right to expect something done when they want it done, not when you want to do it.

No IC should have to work set hours.
That is absurd.  If there is any sign of control such as set hours no matter whether these MTSOs like to word it nights and/or weekends equals employee status.  Be very careful of these MTSOs who are getting away with paying an IC to be an employee.  PHewee...
i would want to work more than 40 hours is what
I just need a certain amount of lines since they only start out at 8 cpl!!
There isn't enough work for 35 hours. nm

Maybe she wants a PT job so she work her hours
around her husband's schedule, so that she won't have little kids interupting her work (which is what I do).  Don't be jealous just because you can't do it with kids, because there are those of us that are good enough to handle it.
Have to work all hours to try to get my sm
lines in.
You CAN work over 40 hours you just
can't put it on your time card
You have to work hours that are the best sm
for you and your family. If your family time is important then work your hours around it. I would pick fly s**t out of pepper before I would lose my precious family time. It is more important to me than money. The trolls on here can drop dead or go back to wherever they came from.
off track totally....
And we have a Chevy with 300,000 miles been going strong for years plowing snow, blah, blah, blah....but all this is off track and is very unfortunate that it appears that many just simply do not care if the MT industry gets off-shored or not.  But again, that is every individuals perogative to care or not to care and only someday when it affects you or someone you love personally will you ever truly understand!!
They also track your location

because you cannot post anonymously anymore.  If you are using a proxy site you cannot post.

Big Brother MTSO.

Does MQ address how one is to work 40 hours when there is no work available?
Do they cover any of the things they always refused to address before?
Can work as many hours as I want at the national I work for now, and they don't pay OT until you
to a certain level of production.
No work here for 1 and 1/2 hours now. Bad thing is my PT gig also has no work.(sm)
I don't mind flexing to get my lines/hours in but when you are balancing more than 1 job it isn't easy. Tonight I am scheduled to work on my PT job so can't make up TT lines unless it is really late this evening and that just ain't gonna happen.
Why do you have to work 40 hours if you are statutory? nm
x
You will be required to work set hours.
:
how may hours a week do you work
or maybe a better question is how many lines a day do you do?
