I think you at least wanted to have some company in your misery. And as to the company charging $15/month, their income from this isn't that high either. It would only be $1500/month for every 100 MTs. They do have to pay recurring licensing and support fees on the platform and now pay taxes on that income instead of taking all their expenses as write offs. Maybe their point of charging to use their platform isn't to rip off anyone, but rather to support for their platform to minimize downtime. Some years back the hospital where I worked paid $40k/year just for support on their Lanier equipment because every one or two years SOMETHING would happen requiring a service call. The cost to replace the system was way, way more than a single year's service fee.
