I think it is absolutely within your rights to not give a 2 week notice. There is no excuse in the world for you not to receive your paycheck on schedule. How awful that you must then come up with a 400 dollar late fee! What is the sense of even working, then?
I work for Focus and despite having seen some negative comments on this site, I am very happy here. We are having some changes going on right now which are a little frustrating, but I have never, ever had to wait for a check! In fact there was a bit of a dust-up about us not getting paid on Good Friday which was a holiday, but enough of us complained on the new Focus Employee web site and we received our checks early.
Good luck to you. I really feel for the bad spot you are in right now. Life is hard enough in our economy that no one should work at a job and not get their money. What do these companies think, you are doing this incredibly challenging work as a hobby. Geez!!!
