Oh, I understood your point perfectly.

Posted By: Not because I get paid for it on 2008-01-11
In Reply to: OMG. Everybody else here understands my point. - outtamymind

Your statement was why call it a holiday if you don't get paid. To which, and I say again, it's a holiday whether YOU get paid or not, something you should have made a note of when you were hired.

And, BTW, individual beliefs and holidays and pay - and our attitudes to such - are all related to our human existence, existentially speaking.

I understood your point
I understand your point totally.  My point was that they actually promote those 10 days off without pay as a fringe benefit, when we have many more than 10 days off due to no work, or at least this has been my experience since October.  Add this to the constant hiring and it makes me sick.  I work with Editscript and they won't let me have a dictaphone account.  Unfortunately, I haven't found anything else yet.
You said it perfectly!!!!!
There is nothing I can add except that I used to love medical transcription.  I wish it was like the old days.
THANK YOU.. PERFECTLY WORDED

STYLE ISSUE... That is what I was trying to say, but couldn't find the words!!!

Wasn't that company, but a large national and a newer QA person.

You explained that perfectly! sm
Bingo! This job is very isolating and most of the jobs are found via Internet, so there is no personal (face to face) contact. This board helps network other MTs. Sorry that some people don't seem to understand.
Amphion would fit you perfectly. nm
nm
It works perfectly well.
xxx
I would think it is perfectly legal if it sm
is some kind of training you MUST learn in order to IC for the company. Don't see why it wouldn't be legal. I guess they can say that they no longer utilize ICs who haven't had this training.
What is not understood is that is that OVER AND ABOVE
throughout the day.  And NO she never said that at all.  For goodness sakes, if she had answered that one question without cryptic I start here and do this and then do that and come back and do more when it is available.  That doesn't say if she worked more than 8 hours total or not.
She understood?
nm
I never understood why anyone would

pay a company to work for them.  Shouldn't it be the other way around?  There are tons of companies out there that don't require you to use their computer and who do not charge for the foot pedal, software, etc.

I understood what you were saying. s/m
Very few things make me more angry than people who bend over backwards to not do what they don't want to do. I always say to cherrypickers: If *you* don't want to type a certain report what makes you think *I* want to do it? I know I'm flexible because whatever comes across my screen is what I've been hired to do. Reminds me of an op that I was privileged to get to do the other day, a quintuple bypass with the worst ESL I've heard in years. I think God Himself would have had a hard time understanding him. Obviously someone was HAPPY they didn't do it because the DT was way out of sequence. It took me exactly 1-1/2 hours to complete the sucker and when I was finished it looked like swiss cheese. I was at the end of my shift but when I heard it I wasn't about to sign on off and leave it for someone else. That being said, I do believe I can call myself flexible. For all I know Ms. Bend Over Backwards Happy may have been the one who skipped over it. And speaking of which...cherry pickers can cherry pick in so many ways that no company can do anything about it. I'd like to wring their necks right off one and all!!!!!
I am perfectly satisifed there. I like it quiet. nm
xxxxxxxx
Bravo! You stated that perfectly! $50K for me, too!
Then AHDI can call me and maybe we'll talk.
Understood - i'd go over her head. SM
I agree that different STMs manage their work differently but I'd sure talk to someone higher up. There's no reason for one MT to run out when others are inundated.
Not sure if you understood financially I am not able to
switch careers. Bless you if you have enough money to do that for yourself.

Luckily, I am not one of these people who does not have a good job, I do, but whatever the reasons, mainly greed in my opinion, I am losing a lot of benefits and money steadily.

if you want to blame the MTs that is fine but one thing I have never understood is managements lack of ability to well manage. when I was in management people were not qualified never even got positions so not sure who is to blame really. why do all these (yours words) shoddy MTs get hired. Management is an art, and companies that let this go on just so they get their work typed - I do not think a lot of them really care how it gets done. Now I am speaking of the bigger companies. they pawn off any conscience they have on the MT making us solely responsible for caring for the patient when if anyone was really concerned about the patients healthcare would still be not for profit and not a business like it has turned into. But we MTs are the only ones expected to put out 99-100% work or get our pay reduced in many cases?

Gotta run right now but I could not disagree with you more really in some things.
I understood what the other poster was saying

Of course your management will know what type of report you get.  What the other poster was saying was that the end product would be the same if it was corrected by you through editing or corrected by you through erasing and straight typing.  Being familiar with VR editing, I can tell you that some reports are so bad that it is far less time consuming to completely erase the whole report and type it than it is to try to correct it.  This often happens when the physician or account is new to the VR platform.  It sounds like you have been very fortunate to be placed on a VR account that has been trained for a while now and so the reports generally come through as a breeze.  I've been on the other end where it was much easier/quicker to erase the VR report, enter my shortcut for a particular procedure and make 1 or 2 adjustments than it would have been to edit all the garbage that came through.

yes, understood BUT it is the fact that sm
it is more -- it is that we are losing our jobs period. I don't blame the phillipines or India employees, that need to make a living just like us. It is when we become the minority.

Just like all the foreign born doctors are here (and bring there cultural attitudes with them, I might add. I believe in sharing and a better life, but we no longer even have a choice of American born, attitude, culture physicians, etc.very very few in my area which is
Victorville, Barstow, Apple Valley California. Just are none, not even half a dozen.

There was a thing on TV, I think it was PBS where in India, the Hollywood cartoonist (there was another word for it, I forget, anyway, their jobs are outsourced from Hollywood to India because here it would be 73 million and there it is 30 million to do the job.

There must be some solution where the U.S. employees are able to survive too.

Look what they expect us, very well versed, very skilled technician in the medical field, who must actually know more that the doctors (they get an inch to the left or the right and they need to call in a consultant, and we are offered, 2.5, 3,4, 5, 6, 7, 8 cents a lines.

Figure it out, say 1000 lines a day, that is 125 lines an hour TIMES THE ABOVE to get your hourly rate. This why the MTs are frustrated. This is WHY.
Oh. I use my own expander ShortHand and it works perfectly.
No problem getting my 275 to 300+ lines an hour either.
No, wrong again, it is in modern times perfectly acceptable to
start a sentence with 'But' and even with 'And,' especially when putting emphasis on a statement.
Not Seymour, but I understood the post.

Seymour wasn't making fun of ESLs.  Anyone working for Transcend would know that there are several accounts that are very heavy ESL.  Seems kind of [fill in adjective of choice] to post an ad for 1 account that is no ESL.  Most people aren't foolish enough to believe that the majority of applicants are going to apply for a heavy ESL account when there is one with no ESLs.  We're also not foolish enough to believe that if we get hired for the no ESL account we'll be on that account for long before running out of work.  The no ESL ad is a carrot.  I'm just figuring (from Seymour's post below about Gone with the Wind) that the Scarlett interpretation is because Transcend is in Atlanta.

KUDOS TT23,,,like you I understood what TT was doing
they explained rather clearly. It is a shame that this situation (which was only meant to help TT MTs) got so blown out of proportion. These are just rumors, bad rumors,, it amazes me how someone could totally miscontrue a very clear email!
I understood her to mean she was paid hourly plus
x
Exactly! Glad you understood (& I'm ex MQ myself so I knew it when I saw it too!) nm
x
Understood, but MTSO's cannot afford
to sue every poster on these boards because of their bad press, or whatever you want to call it.. defamation seems extreme, but I didn't read the comments made by the posters who are being sued. Most people here post general angst-y things about companies and if a judge were to read over the comments on this board, to get an overview of the climate and what is considered normal conversation and postings on these boards, they would probably see that this is a normal, everyday occurrence on message boards. Are they going to shut down every message board? Where would they start? As someone said, some of the angry, horrible postings in the political forums are much worse than anything said on the company forum. IMO. I believe that on these boards the MTSO's AND the MT's BOTH post angry things at times. No one is innocent here.
Oh, I understood the post precisely and still
the people letting VR just go thru in order to not be docked should be immediately terminated.
Would you please be so generous as to send your company gift to me since you are perfectly satisfied

with our job paying us for NO holidays, use PTO earned for sick, holiday pay, and everything else that may come at us in life!  You better believe those inhouse clerks, etc./sups, leads, execs and on and on get their GIFT and a hefty one at that.  Why are we at-home supposed to be satisfied with nothing, but a low-paying job, low work most of the time, requests from company to flex and flex for THEM, but no flexing when the MT needs off.

Yes, I am thankful for a job, and that is exactly what it is . . . . a job (almost).  That is if you consider NO paid HOLIDAYS like all other types of companies give.  Yes, these are hard times, but these hard times are hitting the MT harder and harder each and every year!  It does not affect the office support staff, etc., etc., etc.  They are paid for holidays and whether there is work for the MT or not.  We are piecemeal workers only (similar to sweat shop workers).  Yes, I am thankful that I have a paycheck coming home, BUT I have to WORK VERY HARD for every penny that comes home to me in the form of a paycheck -- without any paid breaks or holidays.  The office staff are the lucky ones -- everything paid for them!

I never understood how MTSOs came up with not paying for spaces. sm
You have to hit the spacebar just like anything else, and the document would be pretty darned hard to read without them.  I refuse to work for cheaterhead companies like that. Thanks for passing along the information.
From the MTSO's side, try to realize how difficult it is to maintain a perfectly even flow of--

work for everybody. You might say you want ONLY XX minutes a day but what happens if a doc decides to get caught on his backlog? Or another MT wants off for the day because her daughter has a fever? Or another MT just has to take off a few hours to run her dad to the doctor's office? And then another account realizes it's almost the end of the month and they need to get all their reports in? Or if there is a chlorine spill at the edge of town and the ER account gets swamped? It is impossible as an MTSO to keep the work at an even keel. If you hire people just for overflow, then some days it's too slow. So your overflow person quits. Or it gets slow because it's February and everyone is avoiding deductibles and your MT's are b****ing about not enough work. Then August hits and work comp pours in along with weekend warriors, then the MT's are screaming that they are overloaded. There has to be a certain amount of flexibility in the MT's end or it just won't work. MT work is like LIFE, it comes at you in waves.

It is perfectly legal. You need to be FT to get benefits. You need 12000 lines to be full time. I
period so there is no issue. Why do some people here try to make everything ugly?

What the person did NOT say is that it is averaged by quarter. So if you do 12,000 lines one time, 15,000 the next and 10,000 the following, it will balance out. They also do not count it against you if your account is slow.
Excellent point, and point in case
look at the charlatan christian in the
Whitehouse who uses religion to push his agenda...

Christian IS as Christian DOES...
I understand your point, my point is why can't MTs and QA work together..
being QA doesn't mean you are above everyone else, you are just an extra set of ears...and why do so many MTs take offense to QA??? That is my point...you made have had bad experiences in the past with QA but not all QA are bad...
Actually, I can see your point AND the opposing point
.
I do see your point. sm
I just don't know how bringing up old news affects the here and now. The article did say that Linda only referred to this time period as the "black hole."

From what I can tell from the article, a lot of court, attorney and ESI quotes were quoted, but no real fresh news, i.e., something present. If this article was never published, I would have never known.

I also understand and recognize your personal feelings. How do you think that this is going to impact you and/or the MT community? It could go both ways of gaining clients or very wary practice managers.
My point exactly, and....

Respectfully, if this story had not been published, you would not have known.  You would have not been fully informed of the business history of fraud.  What if, for example, instead of selling your business to her, you entered a partnership with her ??  And then found out this history in the newspaper?  If it were me, I know I would feel pretty ticked off and deceived.   That negative association could possibly last a business lifetime for you.

Execuscribe (Linda) had awards locally, and has been in several news clippings and featured in Inc. magazine.  She is definitely in the public eye.  She has to take the praise along with the truthful reporting of fraud in her business.  She owns both.  Would you vote for a political candidate with this history???  Would you want your son/daughter to marry somebody with this history??

Her clients may jump ship -- I know of 2 MTSOs locally who have already received inquiries to change providers.  They may change, they may not.  Are they wary?  YOU BETCHA!  But, why is that?  Not for anything they have done, but because they may be lumped into the "Execuscribe" category simply by association of being MT.  Don't ya think that's a bit unfair?  From what I've been told about questions asked to these MTSOs, they have to go in with their defenses lined up about how they DON'T do business, before they can even present how they DO business.

There was no "slant" to RBJ reporting.  Simply the facts taken from court records.  It's fresh news if it has not been disclosed previously.   I, for one, will be watching them closely.

you do have a point! nm

That's my point
The "not saying more" poster said "Don't believe everything you hear about Transcend. The GOOD MTs like this company" and made it sound like if you didn't like Transcend, you weren't a GOOD transcriptionist. Those that left were there for years.  They must have been doing something GOOD with the strict QA to last there for years.  If they were that bad, why would Transcend expect them to sign a waiver not to sue when they leave? Transcend could always say that the MTs sucked, they were unreliable, their QA was terrible, etc.  Instead they want to clear themselves from future lawsuits.  That alone says a mouthful.  So "not saying more" is just plain wrong in assuming that it's the MTs at fault.
You have a point.
That would be the only drawback for me was the pay. I make 9 cpl now and at Amphion I would probably only make 7.5 to 8 cpl maybe. But I love the fact that I wouldn't have to work, weekends, evenings or holidays and I can spend that time with my family. I also am trying to consider the fact that if I get a good tax return this year I will pay my SUV off and that would save $300 a month. My baby is due any day now. The hospital I am working at has me working Labor Day (if I am not in labor), and Christmas. I worked Christmas last year and that was bad enough but this year will be my baby's first Christmas and mommy will be pounding away at the computer while dh, MIL and my other dd have the big family gathering.

OK I am not bitter.....lol. Probably just PG hormones.

I also see the point, however, sm
I meant no harm, just trying to offer help and/or encouragement to the original poster.  Most probably I could have done with just saying QA lest someone be offended.  I expect anyone who has ever been in the position of having that type of QA person would call that type of person the same, or worse, than I did.  Matter-of-fact, in real life I swore viciously at my monitor over that type QA person and called her everything but a good milk cow.  'Course no one saw or heard me and my email to the super was quite professional and simply referred to her by name. LOL
My point, exactly. Thanks. nm
:)
Yes I am, to the point I am looking for another job. nm
x
This is my point
MTSOs have to be willing to walk away. Yes, the facility can find someone to do it cheaper and more than likely, the quality will reflect this. A company I used to work for had a large hospital account with all overseas MTs on it. I did QA for this account. The MTSO was dumb enough to release several of these MTs from QA which allowed them to upload directly to the hospital. I'm laughing as I type this. Two weeks later, the hospital had bailed. Account gone...POOF!

I can only imagine what those reports looked like that the offshore MTs were uploading. QA is like life support for the offshore MTs. They will always need it 24/7. What company in their right mind would allow these people who understand nothing about the english language and proper grammar - to come off of QA? Unbelievable!
and your point is?

That's not the point...sm
Word Expanders have NOTHING to do with being paid for spaces.
That was my point :)
.
Yes they do... but I think the point is that it is not always right.
NM
And your point is.....
LOL.... Having postings proves nothing. And you cannot follow directions obviously.
the point is . .
I've been in this field almost 25 yrs. and even back when things were so much better, there were the catty, whiny people who chose to be unhappy no matter what. At least here we don't have to click on their posts, now do we? I hope as I get older, I won't have one of those permanent frowns I see people like that acquire. Such unpleasantness is such a turnoff. This is the first time I've come to this site in 3 mos. because I got so fed up with the petty nastiness. Sorry to see nothing's changed. :0)
And your point is what? I said
it had been at least that long, so if you are correct that there has only been 1 male supervisor, guess that's who we're talking about.
Exactly my point...
As long as this is the way we look at things, it is the way it will be. Once again, you have a couple of people who have had a bad experience, therefore ALL employers are bad.

With this kind of attitude, it's no wonder that many employers think of MTs as a group of whiners. We make that bed for ourselves.
Just want to point out...
This is NOT about ethniticity or race or anything like that. I was a marketing executive before I opted to do this and stay home with my daughter and worked with many, many foreign countries and people. The work is just as good and some cases better. HOWEVER, this whole situation is not good for anyone involved us as US-based transcription and the transcriptionists in India. They aren't being paid fairly and the AAMT has made things sound quite a bit better to them than it ever will be as many of us know from experience. As far as the horror being turned out by US MTs, in your particular situation or not, there are, in every profession, the bad apples. While unfortunate, I know that most of us care about our work quality and strive every day to put in 100% to make sure each and every sentence, word, note, dosage and spelling are perfect and correct. I have also found that those companies that treat there transcriptionists as people and with a lot of respect and awesome, noninsulting QA tend to be those high-rated professionals who are confident, hardworking and 110% more dedicated, in my particular situation.
At what point
did we resign ourselves to just being paid on time being enough from a company?  There are good companies out there that pay on time but are fair and honest.  Focus just ain't one of 'em.  If anyone has worked for Focus full-time for any length of time and still think they are a good company, I got some ocean front property in Arizona and a couple bridges for sale.
