Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

Part of your issue may be that your account manager is in India and there is a time zone difference.

Is there any difference between full and part time IC status at DSG?
Trying to narrow down my choices and make my decision.  Thanks!
Well I work on an account that probably about 4 part time transcriptionists on it ...sm
There is hardly ever enough work. Never get a full day because the account is overstaffed. There are 2 doctors on this account also. It might not be as bad with you because you only have you and 2 part timers. But on this account there is a handful of MTs. Ridiculous!
Any companies needing part time help on a Lanier account?
nm
Are you in the same time zone?
That can make a difference. Also -- if they aren't even late yet, is it really necessary to be here on the boards worrying about it? If you are going to go with MDI, have a little trust; they hvae a good track record. Follow instructions. They say to call them if they miss the appointed time. So just do it. Each of these people work in multiple capacities, ie, the liaison may also be a QA person, and also have other job duties, as do the trainers, recruiter, etc. You are not the only person in their world. I hope you learn to relax, go with the flow, and enjoy your new-found position. You ARE in a good place.
I ask if work will be in my time zone in case of ?'s or need for
s
They've all said Woburn, Mass when I asked...same time zone as me grrrr! nm

They no longer hire part-time and may be eliminating part-time employees within the next 6 months.
They are going to have those that are PT go FT if possible. Some accounts require 1 weekend day, but not all. Most transcriptionists have 1 account with 1 back-up account. I know that they are hiring for hospital accounts in medical records and radiology right now.
No PTO for part-time. Not sure if you can work part-time or not since recent rule change. sm
You do pay a deposit for their equipment.
There is a part-time and a flexible part-time, just left there and they offered
me both. Flexible, however, is more or less when they need you (I.e. weekends), part-time is fixed hours.
Yes I know they hire part time because I referred someone there for part time.
They are internet based.
From what I understand, the part-time positions will be only be for those that are already part-time
It is not a restructuring of the company, just of some of the existing part-time positions.

I know that there are a few employees who have been with Keystrokes for many, many years who are part-time and they will not displaced.

Other than that, there have been many discussions why there will not be any new part-time employees hired, and I really don't think they will back down on that.
It really depends on who your account manager was - sm
There is one account manager there who is a b****! And that is when she is having a good day!! She switches people all over the place. There were other account managers that were GREAT and helpful. When I worked for them, I actually had two accounts that I worked on, and I can honestly say that I had very little ESL on both accounts, and the ESL that I did have were really not that bad.
So much depends on the account manager
you are assigned to and the account you are on. They have many accounts. After working on Vscript, their platform, and then other platforms at other companies.... Vscript is MUCH more user friendly and quicker than other platforms. An advantage of Transform is they are not anal about working set hours as many companies are or for getting a set amount of lines daily. Pay is always on time and direct deposit is available. I'd definitely check it out.
I believe she said the account manager, someone at her work
I thought I read that the OP said that the person at her work was getting angry with people asking questions. That's who I meant.
what's the difference between a VA account and one that isn't? (sm)

Are VA accounts harder than regular accounts?  Why is it harder to get a good line count on a VA account?

Beware Account Manager at Zylomed

Have been extremely happy work for Zylomed for almost 5 months now, had exclusive doc account to do every day.  Hired specifically for that account and specialty.  Former account manager tried to give me more work, could only do so much, but never, ever cut me off and not upload dictation for day.  Then--out of the blue they shifted accout managers, I got a new one who I don't think ever managed transcription accounts before.  She just jerked 2 days of work from me without notice and now won't communicate why she did it (knowing this was my regular work--my income!)  And, won't tell me if I've lost this account or not.  Won't respond to IM or email.   Am so, so angry and feel powerless over this--this person and her control over my income.   Will not let this ever happen again.  I've read so many sad stories on this board about such random withdrawal/no work available that I was afraid to sign on with a national.  But when I did apply and got hired. the hiring manager was so great, and so far I thought Zylo was different, so happy with their platform and direct deposit consistency.   How one ignorant, ill-equipped manager can ruin so much good stuff!  And cause financial problems.   I'm probably going to have to quit, but have to give 2 weeks notice.  I've gone to a higher up, but that's probably going nowhere.  I just want the account manager to not ignore my IMs and emails and let me know my status!  Anyway, it's back to the streets for me, I've had my own accounts for 10+ years, things changed along the way so thought it would be easier to just be a sub for someone else so tried this in early 2006.  Yikes.  Better put my selling hat back on.  I think chances are truly better out there finding your own work than selling your soul (and promise of livelihood) to one of these national outfits.  Sadder but wiser MT, no more nationals for me.   Actually, maybe it's one of those doors  I wanted closed (no accidents?) -- pay was low, I can do better on my own, just thought I could give myself a break and be a sub.   Grief and relief at the same time.   That's all, had to say to folks who understood.  I appreciate the forum.   Thanks.  (I'll answer any emails inquiring specifically re this manager.)

Gave up nearly 60K as account manager with QA, etc., to get my life back.
I now make around 35K as an MT and am MUCH happier. I work around 5 hours a day as opposed to 10 or more, plus part of a day every single weekend in addition to that 10 per day M-F. I actually have free time now. Always working left me burned out and unable to enjoy all that money was doing for me.
Does it have to be an account your manager has or any account? nm
,
The account that I am on is FIFE, but it is a total outsource. Might make a difference. nm

The pay issue was not a one time occurance.
TTS talked a good game but couldn't hold up to what they promised.

I had my line count switched with someone else once, but other than that my line counts were correct with TTS. Getting the correct pay for that screw up was another matter.

Pay was, for me, an ongoing issue for several months. I called the owner late one night and while she was pleasant on the phone, I got a not so pleasant email the next day.

I heard the whining about how mean this board is and how it hurts her..and then I got paid late again. Can't say I care if it hurts her feelings. I'll never recommend her company. There were some MTs that never had an issue. Good for them.

There are companies out there, like the one I work for now, that REALLY does respect their MTs and treats us well. My line counts are correct. My pay is on time every time.

I agree to take what is on here with a grain of salt, but becareful who you work for.

I have never had an issue with time off or adjusting
schedule for appointments.  Have no trouble meeting and exceeding minimum standards.  Platform is basically Word and not difficult at all.  Tact is something that could use some work for sure.
There is also the time difference.
xoxo
Maybe the time difference and turnaround?
xx
Forgot to add, the issue is lag time, not incorrect counts
sdf
what difference is even double time if there is NO WORK...

this is about the slowest holiday I have seen but even we are holding back on healthcare visits right now unless emergencies because we cannot afford it.  perhaps that is part of it but whatever it is I have had no work for 2 days so my holiday pay I was promised is actually putting me back in the red...

Merry Christmas

I'm lookin for part-time work (about 3-4 hrs daily) after 13 years of full-time, anyone know of a
company that is hiring flexible part-time?  I'm starting a career in real estate but don't want to totally quit transcription, but I think most places require 25 hours a week and I cant work weekends, as real estate sales are the biggest on the weekend with open houses and people off work to shows homes to.  If you know of a place I'd sure appreciate the info.  Thanks!
Not what I was told; 3500/wk part-time & 6000 wk/full-time. nm

Precyse Solutions is hiring part-time and full-time right now.
Saw this on their website.
i work 3 part-time jobs now. it can be confusing if you are learning both at the same time, but sm
other than that not a problem for me. best to get one down before starting to other or you might become overwhelmed.
MDI-MD: What are daily line requirements for full-time/part-time? Thanks! nm
nm
I have one full-time job and 2 part-time jobs. It can be tricky at times, sm
but at least I now have plenty of work always. I have some big financial goals, and right now that seems to be the only way to accomplish it.  I can't see any reason why it would not be legal -- why would you say that?  I am cheating no one, except myself (out of sleep and a social life).  Fortunately, I am single with no children or anything.  I cannot imagine doing this if I had a family.  At least my dogige understands.
Don't know about cherry picking, but time of day makes all the difference (sm)
If I worked day shift, got a fair mix of work. The days I worked early evening, seems like I had to work through 8-10 pieces of rejected poop to get to the regular mix. I thought perhaps a lot of people ended their shift when a crappy one came up and therefore the next shift had to wade themselves out of the doo-doo.
Full time/part time based on # hours or
# lines per pay period, nothing to do with quality. The lower the quality the higher the pay it seems.
Solution: Find another job, part time or full time.
Post your resume, hope for the best.
Depends on how flexible you need to be and if full-time or part-time
They are a little more flexible if you are part-time.  Not so much full-time, where you can be a little flexible within the day (not a strict 8-5), but if you are scheduled for Monday, you have to work Monday unless you request off, and if you are scheduled for a Holiday, you have to work the holiday, unless you request off.  They encourage you to clock out every time you are not typing to keep your lph rate up, which means an 8 hour day can turn into 12 hours at the computer.  If they run out of work (which they do quite often), you have to make the time up.  They are also leaning more towards Voice Recognition, so MTs are getting trained on that, but not sure what percent will go that way.  It does affect how much work you may get though in the other accounts.
They are advertising for full time HIM now, do they still hire part time? nm

OSi with part time health insurance and paid time off
OSi does offer health insurance and paid time off for part time.  Yes, there have been changes.  Yes, there will probably be more changes.  I don't see anywhere that hasn't had changes.  If they don't change they will be out of business the way the economy is these days, just like some other companies.  If they don't make money, then I don't make money.  So, what is so different with OSi compared to other companies?  I see complaints constantly about all companies.  I don't think it is the fault of the company that they outsource or use voice recognition.  It just is life on life's terms these days.  There is still enough work for us, at least for me.
This is all part of the cost-saving plan..first, send your American MTs work to India so we sit here
with nothing and then manipulate the way the lines are counted. Sounds like cost cutting at our expense to me.
Your account went to India?
During my interview with Landmark, I was told they do not offshore. Do they?
Yes, my account went to India.
No, Landmark does not offshore but a client at any time can decide to take away an account and that's what happened here. Client called and decided to give India a try. Poof, the whole account gone in 1 day.
just resigned because India took over my account
nm
OSI also has this account & definitely offshores it to India
.
Its holiday time. I just took a part time job at K-Mart and
it is really quite fun because I get to interact with humans and do not have to stare at a computer. My part time benefits included an employee discount on merchandise from day 1 of employment, can put that on lay-away, and if the item goes on sale before you pick it up, you get it at the sale price as well as with the discount. This is a Super K-Mart, and with kids this will really help with paying for their presents. It sure beats running out of work every day and wondering if I am going to have any money for gifts.
Question on MDI-MT full time vs. part time
Does anyone know how many lines per week or per pay period are required at MDI-MT to be considered full time?  Thanks.
Part-time MT getting full-time work ??????

TransTech should not be giving out work to PT people on their DAY OFF, or any other time BEFORE a full-time MT has enough work    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Full time is 40 hours, and yes they have part-time.
nm
TRUST me when I say...It is not worth your time, even part-time..

I hired on with them part-time on or about September 8, kept getting run around as to when I was to actually start transcribing. Team lead emailed to say she had a very very good account for me to start on.  I was trained 25 minutes. Then, there was an issue with my ID and password to get into the system.  After about 2 weeks, got ID and password, but it didn't work.  Then I get an email from another supervisor advising that I would be on another account and they seen the specs. So, I get an email some time around the first of October saying I can start typing.  In the meantime, Focus has a MT Forum, and I'm reading all these negative remarks from the MTs stating a lack of communication company wide, to the terrible QA department being not all on the same page, and being deducted points for blanks and such.  By this time, I was exhausted from waiting, and exhausted from hearing all the complaints from the MTs actually working there, that I sent an email to team lead saying, I had changed my mind about working there.  This is the most chaotic, disorganized, miscommunicated place I have ever seen in my entire 32 years of being an MT.   (If there are any errors in this forgive me.  Don't feel like proofing this)

probably because they OUTSOURCE OVERSEAS...perhaps that number is reserved for the India account...?
Good luck to you...
Were you full time or part time?
I would like to get about 1500 lines a day in if possible - not possible? The pay seems good.
Not sure about part time but for full time you get SM
up to 12 hours to do a 7 hour shift. Webmedx requires 35 hours a week for full time, not 40.
