Praying doesn't put food on the table.
I'm back in school getting the degree that will get me out of this crappy business.

Complaining doesn't change anything, but neither does putting your future in someone else's hands and "praying things just work out."

Gotta take the bull by the horns and take action or the world will run you over like a steamroller.
Does credibility put food on our table, gas in our cars, and
clothes on our backs?

We must have been credible at some point in time. After all, we made good incomes because we were paid higher wages, we started MTSOs that were later bought out by the big boys with the big bucks, and we loved what we did and the product we produced. When did we lose credibility? Maybe when the big boys started offshoring? Do you think credibility will be brought back when the big boys bring our jobs back into our own country? Huh? Huh? Huh?
The company is not putting food on her table,
SHE is putting the food on the table?

The company is not putting food on her table,
SHE is putting the food on the table?

Have to agree ... keeping the lights turned on, food on the table, and sm
a roof over my head is pretty good motivation!  Plus, I do not want to exist.  I am single, but I want the same things my married friends have with 2 incomes.  Since I haven't found the seeds for my money tree yet, I work.  As I mentioned below, I have been an MT for 30+ years, but I have worked the last 10 years or so at home, and it is MUCH different than having to get dressed up and drive over town.  Working on a Saturday or evenings or anything is not so bad when you can sit wearing a t-shirt and shorts and have your doggie curled up under the desk.
Now I'm offended at your post, where you imply that
a neurosurgeon.  Shame on you!!  Janitor is derogatory - custodian is respectful and also the politically-correct term these days!
They pay 0.015 cpl for QA work! Extremely, extremely low, low, low. nm
x
Can type you under the table though.
nm
Well, I'd like to get paid under the table

and not report the income, so does that make it okay?  Because some people think it's okay?  It's illegal and they should be reported.  It is of no benefit to any MT to work a set schedule when you're an IC.  Period.

No need to turn the table to innocent MTs
You obviously weren't employed at OSi when the offshoring mess went down, causing the former QA manager to lose her job because she mistakenly let the cat out of the bag about the offshoring - which was a big secret until that happened. Then the current so-called manager threatened to quit and/or blackmail if she was not given the job promotion.

Pray tell me, what MTSO in their right mind would give a quality management position to a person who can't construct a sentence or even spell Douglasville, for goodness' sake? Not only that, but constantly harass the best MTs over insignificant crap until they leave? OSi, that's who.

OSi is a dirty company doing dirty business.

BTW, they have to train the newbies on the harder accounts because MT's with experience are so threatnening to the QA manager that she makes their lives so miserable they have to quit. Then she hires newbies to do QA to boot. What a scam, this OSi.
It is hard! They have been back to the table 3 times
where my husband is on strike and nothing still.  It is VERY hard, especially with children! I pray all works out perfect for your family and my family.  Hang in there
Not offended
Just do not know what original post was in regards to.
you should be offended

Just because your white ancestors had a heart does not negate or excuse what has happened to your native ancestors.  Do you speak for all native persons?  Do you have to be a native person in order for that remark is offensive to you?

Indian giver (or Indian gift) is a North American English expression used to describe a person who gives something and later wants it back, or something equivalent in return.

The term Indian gift was first referenced in 1765 by Thomas Hutchinson,[1] and Indian giver was first cited in John Russell Bartlett's Dictionary of Americanisms (1860)[2] as Indian giver. When an Indian gives any thing, he expects to receive an equivalent, or to have his gift returned.

The phrase is considered a racial stereotype and is often offensive, as it implies that Native Americans commonly practiced this behavior.

I would have been very offended if I had been
asked if I NEEDED 3 days as well. It's almost as if they are asking if it's really that bad and are you sure you can't come back sooner!! I have never worked for a company that treated their employees like that. In the past when we've had deaths in the family (brother-in-law and both sets of parents)I was always told to take as much time as I needed and not to worry about a thing. Hubby on the other hand had to bring the little folder they print out and give to everyone at the funeral even for his OWN parent's funerals to prove he had been there all because some people in his company had taken time off supposedly for bereavement and didn't have anyone die.
Re above. Sorry to offended MT, but OP is prime
x
I was not offended by the comment
I have a child who stutters, and I know the problems faced with that difficulty.  For her it hasn't been a disability so much    I have had stuttering dictators.  Some were great  -  one I had on a clinic I LOVED b/c he took his time and didn't get rushed.  However, I have one on my account now who slurs, whispers, never corrects and is nearly impossible to understand.  I know there are issues w/ stuttering and I admire those who have overcome them to become doctors.  However, I don't think that gives them any more leeway to be bad dictators than those who don't stutter.  As far as being offended, I wasn't - i totally understand the frustration!
I'm more offended by the typos in the ad. nm

No Im not offended at all. Just dont want to start a war
/
I wasn't offended, please do not feel bad. sm
I rarely post here because of the nay-sayers and bashers and get a little defensive when I think someone is about to react that way.

If I were you, I would go to the lead directly and ask if you can either go to another ER account or work with you on this. Not every account is for every MT and vice versa. There is a perfect fit for everyone, and Keystrokes works with everyone to find it. Also, I heard there is another ER account about to start, might get your name on their list if you want!
I was not offended or feeling superior.
you meant by your question? Did you mean that you did not know what MTIA was and were asking if DSG made up an organization or if you meant that DSG was pretending to be a member of MTIA and intentionally misdirected people to a different website? Or did you mean something else entirely? Without knowing what you meant by the use of is it a scam, it was difficult to formulate an appropriate response. I am sorry if my reply made you feel inferior. That was not at all my intent, I was simply asking for clarification so as to better address the inquiry.

It is far more likely that whoever designed the website used MTIA.org instead of MTIA.com when creating the link, which I am sure you could have figured out for yourself.
I'm offended by the Rude TUDE
of the individual posting it.  Just doesn't sound like a professional first class operation.   Sounds low class, cuthroat and sends out red flags.  Danger Will Robinson!  Payment might be an issue.
Food for thought. What if...SM
I think helping to clarify the pay rate in this scenario was important for others to understand. It does show that the company is willing to try and compensate fairly for this transition, or at least it appears that way on the surface. But, what if there's more to it than meets the eye. What I would like to see us do as a profession is look at the bigger picture. Where does this all end? I see the potiential for it to end in our eventual professional deaths.

What if, for example, a significant enough number of MTs start doing the VR editing and do realize a reasonable increase in their base pay for their efforts. What I see is that, for an extra $200 bucks a pay period, they're getting us to help put them in the driver's seat. Small price to pay to ensure one's ability to eventually be able to cut out the "middle man" and have the whole profit margin to yourself. And once their feet are firmly planted on our ground and we have no where else to turn and no leg to stand on, what do you see happening to that extra $200 bucks a pay period then? I see it potentially turning into a scenario of: "We'll pay you whatever we like, and if you don't like it, hit the door. There are plenty of other hungry ex-MTs out there who would welcome a chance to come back at these lower wages just to have a job." Not a pretty picture of our collective future, but it could be an accurate one if we don't stand up now while we still have some ability to make a difference. What if?

Really, are the long-term results worth the minimal short-term gains in pay? At this rate, they're not only getting us to help them kill us off, they seem to be getting us dirt cheap to boot. From their perspective, the idea is to give us a couple hundred extra bucks dangling out there like the proverbial carrot while we help them work out the kinks, and all the while were really just lambs being led to the slaughter.

What if the way this particular company seems to have just sprung this whole deal on everyone was a glimpse of the boldness and in-your-face attitude to come? What if?
Food to munch on

Thank you guys so much for all your input.  Yes, we do have the advantage of knowing our docs, etc.  We are now using tapes, so we are not familiar at all with the service's platform.  There were four of us in-house transcriptionists.  One has already been deleted due to not having DSL in her area.  One is doing the unemployment route and going back to school, as she said she did not feel secure with going with the service, and this would be a perfect opportunity for her to advance her education.  So, there are 2 of us left and we are undecided due to the issues discussed.  Our CMO, who is Indian, would just throw a fit if we do not go with the service.  He has refused over and over again through the years to outsource transcription.  He only wants us doing it.  My doctors have been told that we are going with the service, even though nothing is set in concrete.  The docs have only been okay with this transition knowing this.  If the two remaining transcriptionists do not get onboard with the service, I think my company will have mutiny on their hands - - IT WILL NOT BE A PRETTY PICTURE THAT IS FOR SURE.

The MT who wrote the newspapers and such - - YOU ARE MY HERO!!!  Way to go.

You get to a point where you are tired of being #%#@@#.  That's where I am.

I would take it. That would pay for food for the week
and maybe something better than the usual mac and cheese and hot dogs we have been eating. Uggg. I would perhaps even try to buy meat like chicken or steak for a change. LOL.
Why have cable and little food. You don't say
internet.  But like you said you get your priorities straight.
I'm sure Anne, Sue and Mary are very offended by your comments...NOT!
x
I am offended by your "nonsense about no work" comment.
I have been with MDI for many years and very much like this company, but the workload on my accounts has been very slow for several months now, and I have multiple accounts.  I have not had a full paycheck for months and I work all hours of the day and night, so it is certainly not no work nonsense for me.  I am hanging in there because I really like this company, and the workload will surely pick up again after the summer vacations, at least I sure hope so.  I can't ever remember such a slow summer, and I am not sure if there is a lack of work or too many people trying to cover it, but there has definitely been a work shortage for quite awhile.  This may not be true for all the accounts, may only be on certain accounts, I do not know, I just know that has been my experience, as well as some other MTs I am in contact with.  So to when we're out here struggling, for you to say it is nonsense and you smell a troll, especially being fairly new to the company, is really lousy, IMO.
Not being in the 'inner elite circle' I used to be offended
because they were always posting about so-and-so making a kazillion lines and how happy and wonderful for them, and on and on - yeah right, while I would be sitting there struggling with the really bad dictators, losing hundreds of dollars a month doing VR - not even able to make my minimum.

People should not be forced to be social on the job. If you had a private site somewhere for those who do then you would not be offending anyone. Then you could all go warm and fuzzy over each other.

This business is cut-throat in reality, and it seems to me there are always a certain group of MTs who get all the good meaty work, but you always have the people to clean up the garbage.

Not nice to have it thrown in your face.
And she actually seemed offended when I politely declined...geeeesh! nm

Transcender who doesn't want to go on food stamps
How is Spheris as an employer?  Are they hiring?  Are they fair?  Do they have benefits?  Can someone make a decent living there?  If their employees give them everything they've got, is Spheris loyal to them?  TIA.
Can you use a food pedal with on-line tests, or do
nm
Oh yeah! A food pedal would be great..just think..
Supper time would be so easy..just hit the left pedal for the microwave, the right for the fridge..just push that pedal to the medal and whip up some potato salad and green beans..

Sadly, I make $300 too much to get Food Stamps
I was going to bite the bullet and get them. So obviously I'm overpaid. Time to switch companies.
The people at CardioScribes called us transcribers. I wasn't offended, sm
but I always thought a transcriber was the piece of equipment on my desk.  The other poster is right, though -- better than typist .. UGH.
If poisoned pet food and toys doesn't keep people (sm)
out of Wal-Mart (and it doesn't seem to, read the blog Behind the Counter), I can't see it stopping offshoring.

Not to excuse it, but I've watched the trend over the last decade, and I honestly think a lot of companies offshore only because of the bottom line; transcription is one area that hospitals are always trying to cut and the pressure to drop line rates is tremendous. I used to take several calls a month at the small MTSO where I used to work requesting us to drop our per line rate. It ranged from whining and pleading to outright threats of losing the account if we didn't comply. It was a constant aggravation and stress.

I think some companies dipped a toe into offshoring just to try to keep up and then it trapped them into continuing so as to meet expenses and the TAT. JMO on the mid-size MTSOs; not sure how it worked in the big ones.
There are, Food Shelf, Goodwill, Salvation Army. LOL! nm
.
If they invented a food pedal, we would never be allowed to take a lunch break, lol.

Transtech no work situation putting me in the Salvation Army food line?

This is utterly ridiculous -- NO WORK/LOW WORK.  It is not even the holidays yet.  D. giving the title of an email Census does not make that the reason for the low/no work situation at Transtech!  There are other reasons OTHER THAN CENSUS.  That is so sickening all the time.  The greatest need of us MT's is honesty from their employer --- from the very beginning of employment to the end!

Even a child could see through their excuses for NO WORK.

YES, extremely sad. Especially,
When you search and search and try to find a great company and you find one like DRC. Gone now. Who next? Very depressing. Time to get out.
What do you consider extremely
I work for a company and I average $20+ an hour. For my city I'm at about twice the hourly pay for someone without a 4-year degree and about twice the hourly rate for an in-house MT. I don't feel like I'm underpaid.

If you are talking about companies that pay 6 cpl or something... well, that's a different matter.
Extremely low
I agree that the people at Proscript are great (wonderful in fact), but nice doesn't pay the bills.

My work load there has been very low (to sometimes nonexistent). I have sometimes had to just sit at my computer for up to an hour or more just waiting for a job to finally come in.
Pay was okay, staff was extremely
rude, they will fire you for anything and you cannot trust them at all!! Worst company out there IMO
He was extremely rude to me when he was at JLG. nm
x
Extremely unprofessional nm
Are you a member of management?
That's extremely hard to believe
xx
As of a few months ago, the pay was extremely low.
nm
I would be extremely leery
of starting up with a company if there was a lot of negative comments here.  Granted, we have all had bad experienes with different companies and there are sour grapes out there but if there are a number of negative comments and the comments seem reasonable and not real 'anger-based' - just mostly frustrated - then I would make note of them.  We are only going to grow and stay united if we give appropriate feedback from our experiences.  If you do start with this company, just be cautious and don't quit the one you are with now unless you have a really good feeling about them.  IMHO only.
I took what I felt to be an extremely
long and involved test to be an Editor for SmartMed. Got hired but still did not understand why it was necessary to test that extensively.
extremely unorganized and this

is after being offered a position three times by this company over the past few years and each time I have been turned off by how unorganized they are over there.  I had the same experience this past week with them not getting back to me.  Then they did and told me about two positions.  I told her the one I was interested in but needed an answer about the ins.  Then they called me back the next day but she forgot why I was even waiting for the call and then to top it off was told the position that I was interested was no longer available.  This is the third experience with them.  I don't have time to tell you about the first two.  Incredible.  I have a better job offer from TT (actually to return back to them on a better account) and Axolotl which I will decide on by tomorrow, and another from Transcend which I am turning down but Transcend is right on, very organized, answered all my questions, and told me what all she had available and I picked the one I wanted, no surprises and no being left hanging, immediately sent me the ins info by email before we even got off the phone!  That is the way a company should be run as far as HR is concerned.  The two that I am deciding on also are very efficient in answering ALL questions in a TIMELY MANNER and are organized.  Debbie is great and Axolotl is very very nice and polite and immediately sent me the information I needed such as INSURANCE.  I need to have questions answered before accepting a position.  I will not go in blindly.  I have a chronically sick daughter for crying out loud and some companies did not even have the decency to respond to me on ins. so they got nothing back from me.  Oh and get this when I finally did get the ins. information from KS it was this!! http://www.geoaccess.com/phcs/po/  No information on nothing, just a provider look up and when you click on the home icon and travel your way through the website trying to find info there is nothing that states anything about what the coverage is!!

I will never apply for KS again.  Three strikes and your'e out!!

I'm extremely happy.
Have never had a late paycheck.  They just rolled out a new incentive plan that looks like it'll boost my pay.  I like my supervisor.  No major complaints.
