I am QA and I could't agree with you more. MTs need to care about what they are producing but... what is happening is that these companies don't want to pay MTs what they are worth for their experience. As a result MTs don't give a crap what they do anymore if the company could have such little respect for them as human beings. QA on the other hand is hired to do a job to provide accuracy scores. But then some supervisors do not back up QA and sides with the MT. Why? I guess because they feel badly for them making such lousy money, thus the vicious circle keeps going round and round and nothing ever changes. The answer is not to point blame at anyone but the company executives themselves who are making this a horrible situation for everybody by paying such low line rates. Believe me, it isn't a bed of roses being on the QA side either, the money is not what you would think for years of experience, and respect? Forget it, we're treated just as much as trash as anyone else.

Personally, I'd rather have a company that is picky about QA. We must have accuracy in all areas of the healthcare field, so I say hooray for Amphion for insisting on it.

Obviously somehow you got the idea that I did not care about quality in a medical record. By no means do I think that a company should compromise quality for any reason. But they should also be realistic about the entire situation as well. When an account is verbatim then it should be verbatim, not verbatim if and when it applies. In our QA system you are scored down when you do not follow the dictators instructions of where and how to punctuate, yet just recently I had a report returned from a doc when I did just that. Not only did this completely contradict what the rules for this account state, but it will also count against me during the next QA eval. Do you think that is fair?

No, I did not get the impression that you didn't care about quality, but I do applaud companies that have strict standards. I think if you are following the rules of the account, BOS, and whatever other guidelines your company has, then you should not be counted off on your QA score. However, I know every company has different policies for their QA department, so I can't comment specifically on why your company would count an error for this.
I made over 40K as an MT with 100% QA scores. SM
It is possible - but RARELY as a new MT. The money starts increasing when your fund of knowledge increases and/or you're using your Expander effectively.

For what it's worth - I also read very quickly, so I proofread as I transcribed without slowing down.
Testing scores being perfect...
I do agree with you that on testing for positions when it is obvious especially with radiology that a physician is blurbing a blurb that he probably says a thousand times and you have no access to a sample, it is unrealistic to expect someone testing to make that 100% accurate.  I had that happen to me on a test for radiology I'd say about 2 years ago and the recruiter and I went back and forth.  She got really nasty, and all I was trying to get across to her was that obviously that radiologist has a canned normal.  She was very unprofessional and I was very offended.

why would a client ask for someone with a quality score of 96.7?  I still see people well beneath the minimum amount of lines (back when we had work) for even part time.  These people are still there today.  Why can't they use the time we are low to start weeding these people out?
What range of QA scores are MTSOs looking for when hirng MTs? sm
