Seems to me,

there might be consequences for the MTSO, in the amount of all the FICA they ought to have paid half of. 

I would be very hesitant to open this can of worms right now since I too like my IC flexibility with my current company, but it's good info to have for the future, or to take a past company to task!   Like the one that used to call me an IC, yet phoned my house any time I happened to be late logging on.  It could be great fun messing with them....
