Shorthand is a very easy expander program to import dictionaries into.

In Reply to: I was very encouraged about Spheris when I went to work for them. sm - Ex-Speris MT

Other than that, I agree with most of what you said about Spheris.  I didn't care for them either.  They weren't completely horrible, but I was on three different accounts in less than three weeks because they kept running out of work on my primary.  I couldn't keep all those account specs straight and was off of QA after a week.  The accounts were serious ESL, and the reports were ultra short.  I couldn't make any money with them either.  I put my resume out on the MTStars database and accepted a parttime IC position with a small MTSO.  I made three times as much there per month versus what I made at Spheris.

trying to import DQS expander to Shorthand (sm)
What file do I look for and where/how do I find it?  Step by step instructions would be nice.  Thank you. :-)
ShortHand is an expander program.
www.pcshorthand.com.
Do you mean the Shorthand expander?
nm
Oh. I use my own expander ShortHand and it works perfectly.
No problem getting my 275 to 300+ lines an hour either.
I only use my Shorthand. I have never used the Bayscribe expander..too much trouble. nm

Shorthand or ExText expander system? Which is

Shorthand, any expander that works with Word
Great company to work for - some dictators are difficult to understand at first, very good compensation.
Axolotl computer comes with SpeedType Expander which is the same as Shorthand
Don't know where you got your information about not being able to use Exanders with Lotus, but I just started with Axolotl and the computer I got was already equipped with SpeedType  (another name for Shorthand, which means you will be able to transfer most other Expanders directly into it).  Also, I did some random character counts on reports where I used expanders a lot and ones where I had to mostly hand type, and the lines counts were right on.  You get credit for the lines whether you type it or use the expander.  Also, a lot of companies ask for computer rental -- Webmedx $250, Amphion $25 per month for 2 years, and I would much rather have their computer that I can send back if it crashes (and they will get another one to me in 24 hours) rather than have to run out and buy myself a new one in order to be able to work again.
TransHealth. In fact ShortHand is the expander they recommend for use with...sm
their platform.
I am not following how you make the macro, in word? or expander like shorthand? Help me.
nm
Shorthand IS the name of the software program.

Here's a link to download it if you'd like to try it free for 30 days.

copying a shorthand program
Any suggestions:  On my current job I use the ShortHand expander, which is part of the company platform, not something I purchased.  I have used it extensively and have built up quite a bit of shortcuts.  If I decide to leave this company and to to another is there some way to copy all those Shorthand shortcuts from this program so I can use it at another company.  Call me  technically unsavvy.
Is there an expander program out there that works

I'm looking for an Expander that can do the following:

1. Backspace function command.

2. Will expand a shortcut even when hitting the period or colon afterwards, i.e. px. will expand to patient and FH: will expand to FAMILY HISTORY:

3. Will expand in caps if I type the shortcut in caps.

So, something like the Bayscribe expander. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Does the Shorthand program work well? I don'the know
anything about it but I just started a new job with Meditech and there is no associated program for AutoCorrect or macros. They suggested we d/l the ShortHand program which I did d/l the free 30 day trial. I haven't used it yet but I really miss macros and shortcuts...Will it be worth the $99.99 purchase price when my 30 days expires?  Thanks.
ShortHand is a separate program you buy. ESP is what comes within ExText. nm

Any input, time clock, expander program, LPH, etc.?

Hi,

Curious about the platform used, LPH or weekly requirement, timeclock or timesheet, sound quality, work types.  Do you get your preferred work types.  Are you on only one primary account with backups, working primary mostly?  Is ShortHand compatible?

Thanks for any info.

Word-based, expander included, easy to use...NM

Is the program they use easy? sm
i think i read somewhere where it was word based, was it easy to learn??  what average daily line count can you get?  thanks, sorry for the questions.
It's the ExText software. Easy to use. Has it's own expander, if you want, and line counting b

SoftScript employees? Good money? Easy program? SM

I am interested in current information on Soft Script.  Is it possible to make good money ($40,000 year/full time).

Is the programming easy?

Sound quality good?  I was told it was good.

Thanks for all your help.  Please email me if you wish.  Thank you.

SoftScript employees? Good money? Easy program? SM
Although I realize this post is months after the original post, who in the world told you that MTs make $40,000 per year, especially at SoftScript? If you were talking to the owner (ewww!) or manager, they told you a bold-faced lie.

RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN, RUN......

Just curious
Foot pedals don't work with MediaPlayer. Need to import the file into

Yes, Shorthand. They have an address datatbase that is in Shorthand, so that's what they sm
prefer you use.  nm
Anyone know of a company, easy clinic work, easy Word format, dependable pay? Help!

I love it. It is fast, easy to learn and easy to use.

Platform very easy and quick - easy to get used to. :)

Does the MQ DQS program contain the ShortCuts program, or do I need to buy it? nm

DQS is not a "Medquist" program, it is a program used by MQ. (nm)

Shorthand
Hi, I asked this question on the equipment board, but I haven't received any messages from anyone there, so I hope you don't mind my posting it here:

I've just started using the Shorthand expander and I love it, but I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me how to get it to capitalize the first letter of new sentences in a word document platform.  It expands better than any program I've ever used, but it doesn't cap the first letter in the sentence and it would be So helpful if it did.

If anyone can share how to do that with me, I'd really appreciate it!! Or,if it can't be done please let me know that also:)  Thanks in advance!!

Shorthand

I understand how to make a word capitalized if it's one of the entries in shorthand, but I'm talking about having the first word in any sentence come out capped even if it's not something I'm expanding.  I do appreciate your answers, I really do, but they still don't address what I'm trying to do.  I want to be able to type along and have the first letter of any given sentence be capped without doing it manually...like you normally can do when just typing along in Word and using autocorrect....except that I don't use autocorrect any longer and now use just ShortHand..and thought there must be a way to set it up to use that command of capping the first word in new sentences.  That's what I need to know about:)

For the replies about how to set this up in autocorrect, I thank you, but if you notice I'm Not using autocorrect as when I copy and paste part of a report into my Word document, the copying and pasting procedure completely turns off autocorrect...but it doesn't bother ShortHand and I can still use my expanders in ShortHand..whereas nothing will expand from autocorrect if the text has been pasted in the document.

shorthand
Can you type in emdat using shorthand? I had always heard Expanders did not work with the program and would mess it up.
Yes, I use Shorthand. I still was using PRD+ and was able sm
to convert it, so I was very happy. It is amazing how many entries you end up with.

I still think that PRD+ is better but I am used to ShortHand now.
Shorthand & TA
Although you can't use ShortHand with TA. Fast Chart can import your word list into TAspeed for you to use so you don't have to recreat your list.
Shorthand

If you are trying to get an Expander that works in windows in general (email, ftp, any program)--then I use shorthand.  I use it a lot when typing emails or anything really..good luck.

Or what about Shorthand? nm
nm
shorthand
I use MS Word the auto correct and Expanders and that seems to work fine.  What would be different if I went to Instant Text or Flash Type of one of those? And what is a good one to use?
Shorthand?
nm
Yes. I'm at TT and use Shorthand.
nm
Can you use shorthand
with IChart?  Thanks!
PC Shorthand
work very well with MediTech
with shorthand, you don't have to --sm
*fiddle with it*, it just works on it's own. I hated IT. Still have it in the box with an inch of dust on it. What a waste of a huge amount of money! with shorthand, you just start typing and any words entered into its dictionary by yu just expand on their own. Wish I had the money back I had spent on InstanText..180.00 as opposed to 29.99 ...um, gee, I don't know which to choose! *fiddling with it* to get it to work as opposed to just typing...hmmm.
Shorthand
I use ShortHand and love it.
I also use PC Shorthand...
...and really like it. It is easy to learn and easy to use. As one of the other posters said, you can get a 30-day free trial. Nothing to lose.
Why don't you just use Shorthand to...
ctrl+N/header/enter.

If you don't want to do that you can still use SH to expand into the header field. You don't have to manually type it out or pick from the list.

For numbered lists it's 1 keystroke - ctrl+L.

Very easy.

Will we be able to use our ShortHand with the new WMX VR? nm

Expander
As long as it will work with Windows-based programs then whatever expander you use should work in Merit. I use Shorthand with no problems but have no experience with the one you mentioned.
expander?

I worked for a small local company, and only did proofreading, no transcripton, so I'm embarassed to say I don't even know what an expander is.

Expander
As long as your Expander is Windows-based it will work with the Merit platform.
I only use my expander, AUT.

expander
I'm not a window person but their window program is easy, easy, easy. I use ShortHand as an Expander because it is not limited except by the size of your hard drive - autocorrect is limited, so rather than have everything going on at once, I disabled autocorrect and stayed strictly with Shorthand and made my own custom dict. This is truly a great company but don't play around with your schedule. If you commit to a certain time, be there. They need to know they can depend on you for TAT. I've never had a problem with them. They are great, but they do have standards like not abusing QA because you don't want to take the time to check it out yourself. Otherwise, go for it.

Can you use an Expander with it?
