Such hostility! Wow!

In Reply to: Who are you ANNA to question anyway?? - Axolotl MT

I still think it is really, really strange that she can't spell Axolotl, and none of your bullying or accusations are going to change my opinion.  To recap, I questioned if she worked there since she couldn't spell it, because I didn't think it was fair to other job-seekers to sing the praises of a company if you don't work there and have first-hand experience.  She said she did work there, silly, and then I told everybody who got bent out of shape that I was glad they were happy at Axolotl or wherever they are.  I don't see how you can gather from that that I have a better-than-thou attitude or that I am not a team player.

I don't think you should attack someone because you perceive their opinion is different from yours.  There is no reason to be so unkind.

To hostility posts below

I have been in the MT field for about 17 years, on the MT end and QA end.  I do not regularly post on this board, nor am I a company basher, but I have come to visit and read posts lately.

I have come to believe that the hostility in this field has nothing to do with isolation, the job, competition, having earplugs in all day, etc.  I am convinced it has everything to do with the dishonesty, unprofessional, unethical, and very possibly illegal practices that are being displayed by some MTSOs, and I include their recruiters in this scenario.  To add fuel to the flames, I believe there is a total lack of self-respect portrayed by some MTSOs, and their management.  We should not let this rub off on us.

I have been out of the job market for 17 years and when I found myself back in the running, along with networking, I have encountered some very unethical and unprofessional practices that include outright lies, fraudulent ads, nonpayment, a very high probability of some testing that in all likelihood scored well but the applicants were told their tests were too low or failing.  This is fraud.  I highly recommend to anyone testing to keep a binder with the company names and results that you receive back in your e-mail, if any results were returned to you.  There are other things we can do, as well, if we just think about it.  We need to be aware of the companies that practice these tactics.

I still believe that there are some wonderful companies out there, with the utmost integrity, but we sometimes, unfortunately, must weave our way through some of the very ugliest of encounters.

Having said all that, I truly believe the above is where the bed of hostility and anger arises.

Any innocent question regarding TT is met with hostility.

At the blatant hostility of this post - SM
Maybe I'm naive, but I truly believe this came from some random manager at SS, and I've never even worked for the company. I'm horrified that someone representing a company actively looking to recruit new employees would take the time to post something like this, which is obviously filled with misdirected anger and unbridled hostility.

I would like to thank the poster for taking the time to share with everyone on this board just what one can expect when working for SS.

I don't even need to make myself a note to NEVER apply to this company. This viciousness of this post is something I'll NEVER forget.

Way to represent your firm, ssmngr.
Hostility in the transcription field

Hello everyone, I have been reading the posts on this board for the last couple of weeks.  Most of the postings are helpful, but there are some who just break out into an all out war with one another.  I have not been able to tell if it is the majority or not yet.  Why do you think that is?

Do you think this field makes you feel that you have to compete one another?  Do you think that is because of the isolation?  Working at home is isolation, but even in a hospital setting you are isolated.  Let's face it, we have those earplugs stuck in our ears all day.   We have the ongoing pressure that we have to get our line count, or more.  Do you find that there is a lot of hostility in this field, or is it just because we are women?  Do you think it might be that we feel unappreciated?  We were even told by a coder, at the hospital I worked at, that we were nothing more than glorified typists.

Let's face it, with the amount of time that it takes to master this occupation we could have all had a degree in something.  Some of you already have.  If you work by the line - if you have the experience, the typing skills, use your abbreviation expander, and have a steady work flow - you can make a decent living - but based on the typing skills, work flow, etc. etc. it is not a guarantee.  That is a lot of pressure when you think about it.  That is a different kind of pressure than other jobs.  I am not trying to be negative, I just noticed that there seems to be a lot of hostility and I noticed that at the hospital, where I worked, for 15 years also.  I got along with everyone I worked with.  In order to be able to get along with the transcribers I use to work with, I had to become very thick-skinned, because basically they were just mean.   Has anyone else noticed this?  Do you think it is the job?  What do you think?  I am not attacking the transcription field, just something I have noticed over the years.

You are a prime example of people spewing hostility....
Yeah, precisely THIS type of post, clear out of left field with no provocation. There was NOTHING hateful about HER post. She was expressing her opinion. You're aware of what an opinion is, right? Then you get your panties all in a bunch, push up your sleeves, and decide to set HER straight. Something tells me you spend LOTS of time at your computer, and not just for work purposes, lol!

Geez, talk about ironic...But thanks for illustrating her point perfectly, hahahahaha.
This forum is a place for MTs to share info, NOT hostility..sm
If you don't agree with a poster, just don't respond. It's really not that hard! Live and let live for God's sake! I can't speak for everyone, but do feel the majority, like myself, do come hear to find jobs, research companies, share ideas, etc. What we DON'T come here for is to be dragged down by all the negativity spewed out from miserable MTs. Save it!! No one cares to weed through the rude replies!!
I do not understand the hostility either. I didn't "need" a gift from Keystrokes, sm

but I have to say that I love my t-shirt and the fact that they thought to send it.  Would I still think it is a great company if they had not have sent anything?  You betcha.  And does my feeling of self-worth ride on whether or not I get an atta boy?  Of course not.  But those little things are a nice touch and very much appreciated.  I have not been working at KS long enough to have done anything yet, plus I have been a bit poverty stricken lately, but in the past, I have occasionally sent chocolates or something to the head office to show MY appreciation too.  It is a 2-way street.  When you have a good working relationship, it doesn't hurt every now and then to say thanks ... I appreciate all you do.  Just my opinion.

Hope everyone is having a nice Memorial Day weekend.  Time to forget the nastiness and just relax and enjoy life.
