When I graduated 2 years ago, I told myself my rock bottom rate would be 7 cpl. I refused jobs that paid lower. After a year of working, I found 2 jobs that paid 9 cpl.

While I would not work for less than 7 cpl (would rather go get a job outside the home if it came to only making 6 cpl or less), there are a lot of MTs who are doing this just to stay home with their kids and just make a few extra spending dollars. They could care less if they are only making $2-3 an hour; they are just happy to be able to make something while not having to pay daycare. Or what about the ones that accept low rates just to get their foot in the door thinking that in a year or two they will be able to expect higher rates? They don't understand that they are driving rates down and when they have put in their year or two of exeperience, they are going to have a hard time finding a job paying more.
