There is still mandatory OT on some accounts on some days, just not every single day now.

I have 2 so-called primaries but type on 5 accounts every single day with all different specifics -
nm
My 4 accounts have been in OT for days. n/m
x
The accounts are so large you get them some days
and other days none. I too have had days when that seems like all I get. Sometimes I will go 3 months before I get the same doctor. She should have asked them to route her a variety that day or try another account. There really is a break in period with any new account but Transtech really is the best company out there and they are willing to work with their MTs.
Companies (not just MTSOs) have 90 days to put the money into 401k accounts. sm
It has to be done by the end of the 90 days. My husband's runs about 89 days and he is not an MT. He is a union electrician.
That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.

That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.

OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.

I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.

Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
Mandatory OT...
I just needed to rant that I am sick of Mandatory OT when I am IC AND typed 1400 lines in a day. There is no pay differential for this overtime until after 1700 lines that day.
Yup...mandatory OT bit the big one.
Glad I'm done with that!
Mandatory overtime
Yes as of a few months ago when I was there they had mandatory overtime. I think it is better for a company to offer incentive. Mandatory overtime is on a par with home slave.
Yep, working and mandatory OT
I love it!!!
Mandatory OT Amphion
You must be on the account with Drs. P, K, et. al. Been there done that. Mandatory OT should be compensated. It costs us money to rearrange our schedules. I exited giving my input and it looks like nothing I had to say made any difference. e-mail me if you like.
Can anyone say if they still have Mandatory overtime??? nm
s
Amphion mandatory OT
When I worked there, the mandatory OT consisted of horrible dictators that the in-house MTs did not want to do. If you were making line rate before mandatory OT, you would quickly fall into the pit with mandatory OT. Also demographics on some accounts are a nightmare. Doesn't mandatory overtime make one a home slave?
Mandatory overtime would keep me FAR away from them. nm
s
Mandatory OT? Is that even legal?
x
I thought it was going to become mandatory
That all physicians would have to go to EMR by the year 2010.
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
Diskriter used to make it mandatory that
a Transcriptionist with less than 3 years experience was not to be hired. Now they are dropping their standards to 2 years, no voice testing, etc. They do have a large turnover
Wow! What horrible place is this?!! Mandatory OT??? Ugh...nm
s
401K isn't elective but mandatory?
That's highly unusual and a new one!
They used to have mandatory overtime. Can anyone address this? nm
s
Used to start off at 7.4 cpl and they had Mandatory Overtime! Don't know
s
Mandatory extra hours?? How many?
nm
Plus Transtech has lots of OT - non-mandatory
.
Some accts. might still be on the DOS software here. And mandatory OT
s
Mandatory Line Counts
Just call me toad breath! LOL
They told me that high speed was mandatory. sm
I think that most hospitals require it of the services now. Some programs don't work with dial-up.

Not many companies use dial-up anymore.

Mandatory overtime's not gonna scare you away, huh? nm
s
Beware the Mandatory Overtime with them! Was discussed
s
No mandatory overtime on my team. In fact
work is low.
Mandatory Daily Line Counts..

Can someone tell me what the daily/weekly/per pay period mandatory line counts are for full time transcriptionists? (at the bigger medical transcription services, i.e., Transcend, Diskriter, MDI, etc.)  Also, how much more does a CMT make these days?  What about shift differentials and holiday pay?  It seems only fair that if an MT works a major holiday, like Christmas or Thanksgiving, that they are fairly compensated, but for some reason I wouldn't be surprised if they are not.

Thanks a lot!

I'm sure you'very read many posts about mandatory OT on this board.
nm
Post here in Jan. 2007 said they have mandatory overtime. Is this true?
s
So, you need mandatory overtime to reach your line requirement, huh? LOL
Gotcha!
I hear that Amphion is back on mandatory overtime again, so
they must have plenty of work if you can stand tons of emails.  For IC status, Advanced Transcription out of Oregon also seems to have plenty of work.
And mandatory overtime (they don't tell you that 'til after you're hired). nm
nm
Maybe she/he works 14 hour days/7 days a week? nm
x
I have been down numerous hours this year due to storms. 3 times with mandatory

There are probably lots of MTs still down due to Katrina and Rita.

Don't believe weather can't impact your life in a big way.  Be prepared to know what your options are with your job.

And the ability to hold mandatory meetings and not say a darn thing! nm
nm
Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?

Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm
s
Correction - TH has 5 PTO days 1st year/10 days 2nd yr

Axolotl within 30 days. Transolutions in 60 days. NM

It is true. Any job has its good days and bad days.
Perhaps you'd like to just keep your old job and try this one out. Just because a poster here is crabbing about it, or even if as in the past there have been negative posts, odds are that there are very happy people who don't even post or know that this board exists. As Alice says. Everything is relative. The fact that this company is hiring and pays may be a place which is a blessing. As opposed to digging ditches on day labor for example. Or somebody might prefer digging ditches. This is just an example. Sometimes we who are employable, even though we don't make as much as we used to in this business, or as much as we would like to, we still if working at home do not pay for gas to go to work, career clothes, deal with office politics, have to look at a boss who writes us up if we are a minute late, etcetera. I don't make half as much as I used to, but I don't send my 3 children to day care which by the way saves us money. SO I remind my husband I am worth that in addition to my salary if I had a job outside. No job is perfect. I am not even sure if Focus is any good or not, I have not worked there. But if one poster says there are good days and bad, I say that is the most honest answer you are going to get anywhere, and if you need a job badly, how is it to hurt trying it out, until you know for sure for yourself? THanks for listening. But sometimes this board gets to be a bit much with the agendas of people railing on other people like the OP here who just wanted all opinions instead of just one side. Balance is always great. And, if things seem lop-sided, then it is a good thing to seek out both sides. IMHO.
I think they would. Those are good days for 10-hour days. sm
I have a set schedule but it is Tues-Sat and it works well for me. It wouldn't hurt to ask!
90 days is correct. 3 days off 1st year, 10 during 2nd.

$500.00/single

I am not a single
mother but I empathize those who are and who are trying to raise a family on their own doing this. If not for my husband's income I wouldn't be able to survive on my own. Thats my point, a woman no matter what should be able to be self-sufficient and chosing this as a career will not give you that security.
Another single mom MT here

Yes, it can be done.  It isn't easy by any means, but it is possible if you are fortunate to be working for a good company.

I have supported both my child and I solely on my income as a work-at-home MT.  For a little over a year I picked up some typing on the side for a few hours on the weekends for non-MT related businesses.  That at least paid for the phone bill.  I didn't and still don't owe much of anything, so that's a help.  I have one credit card that I use for groceries and gas, it gives cash back rewards and it's paid off in full every month. I almost own my home with the bank owning a mere pittance. There is no fancy car, no yearly vacations where I actually leave the town I live in, and I've had my TV for 8 years, after my grandmother owned it for 6 years.  Criminey, I don't even subscribe to any magazines.  All books come from the library, all newspapers are read online. I have automatic dedcutions taken from every pay check that are directly deposited into accounts for myself and for my son. We don't have much, but at least we have something. I keep an old ice bucket in the closet that all pocket change goes into.  When my son was little and would ask for pizza I'd tell him if there enough money in the ice bucket, we could get pizza. If there wasn't he'd have to wait.  I still use that bucket.  This year it will go towards flowers for the garden.

My child is no longer a child, he's in his second year of college.  He workd all through his high school years, bought his own car and gives me 75% of his paycheck that go into the account mentioned above for college when he's home working summers.  He works while at college and that is what he lives on while at college.  He has never asked me for money..yet.

I worked for a national company for almost two years when I first started out as an MT.  The pay was horrible, they were horrible, and I constantly ran out of work. I have worked for two small companies since leaving that national.  I never EVER refuse OT, I do my 8 hours/day 5 days/week and I work my fanny off.  It's not fun, and some days I hit my head against the wall thinking I can't do one more day of the tedium that is my job.

I was always here when my son was growing up.  I attended every home sporting event, every awards night, drove him where ever he needed to be, and picked him up when it was done.. I was with him when he was sick, here when he had a problem and needed to talk (whine), and the lucky kid got to come home from school to hot choc. chip cookies out of the oven - not because I was June Cleaver, but because the hormones kicked in and I needed a sugar fix.  We both won.  Just don't tell him that.

Looking back, the sacrifices for this job, mostly my sanity, have been worth it. Though my son grew up without a father, he had me there every single day, whether he liked it or not. We could never, and still can't keep with the Joneses, but I never liked the Joneses anyway.  I love working at home.  My car looks as new as they day it was bought 8 years ago and it has under 50,000 miles on it. Think of the savings of gas, wear and tear on the car, and your sanity if you have to commute.  I was here when my neighbor fell in the boxwood hedges and couldn't get up. I was here to see my dog scare the beheezies out of the two men from the famous door-to-door religious sect who never made it more than 10 feet up the driveway.  Really, can it get any better?

I know I am fortunate and I try to remember that every time I type a report from the Bozo that dictates from out in the hall. If you want to be an MT, then I guess the key is to finding the right company, working your butt off, pay yourself first, don't spend what you don't have, and pray your fingers and your brain can survive the MT world.

Sorry, but $250 for single is
NOT a great deal!!  I work at KS, and thank goodness thanks to hubby's ins. I don't have to pay that.  I thought MQ was bad at $150 a month.  SHEESH!!!
If you are single mom, with this SM
economy, the feeling of being pushed out is so vague, I can't imagine you giving up a job for that.  Is there something in particular that's happening that is forcing you to leave?  Hourly jobs are really scarce nowadays and most are on production.
