This is completely backwards from applicant ethics taught in business school. (sm)

This was long before on-line applications were possible, but tradionally, applicants courteously follow procedures outlined by hiring company. Then you have a chance to ask your questions. And teachers advised you to have serious, respectable, and not focus too much on money or benefit issues until the employer reached the stage where they knew they were interested in you. Only then could you get into very polite, carefully worded money negotiations.

The school is a BUSINESS and the bogus pay scale is ADVERTISING
It's called free enterprise. How could anyone believe such a claim? You've gotta be kidding me.
The VR is taught by the
MTs, not the MTSOs and not the vendors. Bad MTs, too many MTs training differently all add up to a lousy platform. It is to the MTs benefit to teach correctly and then easy street.
Totally can be self-taught
Yes you can teach yourself easily with the theory books, did it myself years ago, but didn't follow through unfortunately, regret that. What is hard is getting the speed up, but definitely give it a try, all you need is the machine and the books take you through it step by step lesson by lesson, anyone can learn it. Good luck.
Backwards or Not
I totally agree with the poster who does not take the process any further without getting the basic information. It is a total waste of everyone's time to go through the process and then find out they want to pay an pennies, not the right hours, etc. event though someone trying to breaking into the field should do whatever it takes to get a foot in the door. I am not seeing how this could be construed as unethical, to me it is just common sense.
Sorry they. Got that backwards.

Why is that job applicant still on the

Job board?  Just wondering...been there since yesterday.

The pay for MTs seems to be going backwards..sm
I worked as an IC for a company 4 years ago and made 0.095 per line.  They had an ad last week for an IC and it paid 0.08 per line.  Just doesn't make sense to me.
Hasn't your mother taught you any manners?
What is wrong with you to judge? Do you think every MT has to be just like you. Every business has the high achievers and the ones who struggle, possibly to find they have chosen the wrong field, or the wrong company, specialty expander.

Your ladies who toss off your smart a$$ comments at every chance are part of the reason MTs are considered difficult.

If you are like this 24 hours a day, I have a feeling you spend a good deal of time MTing because there is no one else in the house with you. Who'd want to spend time with a person who could cough up a post such as yours? A masochist possibly.

Find yourself a sense of humor and until then, cease posting in representation of medical transcriptions. We have more class than that where I am in this business.

I have an applicant who has sent me I do not know how many emails

and inside the email has not put a resume, just a blurb about themself (which is impressive), no phone number, and when I try to reply, the email bounces back saying that it is not a valid email.  It matches the name of the applicant, but IF you are a job applicant who has not received a response to your email, please be sure you are including the correct information.  I can tell you that the email carrier is sbgclobal.net

I will not name any names or initials, but if you have applied at any companies and received no response, this could be the reason why.

Thanks.

Understand, please this is not every applicant, just some. (sm)
I have probably 5% even send in resumes with only a name and email address for contact info. No address, no phone number. These are the ones, btw, who usually get upset as to why I haven't called them.

Has any applicant heard from...sm
Keystrokes since their ad for 50 MTs in June? TIA.
They got it backwards. They pay me to work.
I really appreciate your taking the time to answer these questions. I knew there was some reason I had marked them off my list last time around. Now I have a exactly the right cut and paste to place in my permanent no-no companies records.
Backwards, here is what happened in my case
When I went in to talk with the people at SS (this was twice before I ever started drawing money out) I was asked emphatically both times about drawing the money out earlier BEFORE my full retirement age. They told me about how much more I could get IF I did that rather than waiting until my full retirement age. I knew about the paying back $1 for every $2 deal BEFORE I went in and that was something I did not want to do. If OTHERS want to draw earlier, fine, no problem. I knew what I wanted and that is what I did. I can only tell you what happened with ME and that is they specifically mentioned over and over again how much MORE I would have if taking early. I know what my tax burden is, like I said, asked up front when I filed taxes in March, told how much I would average per month with company income, SS and retirement income. I do my math BEFORE so no surprises. With what my union DH pays in, I am only going to have to pay about an additional $1500 this year. Not bad and I am so glad I waited. Not everyone can, not everyone wants to but for me the best of both worlds.
I agree; my mama taught me it's rude to snub a gift
Okay, so I need another mug like a hole in my head, but I can always use more pens. But regardless, at least they bothered to acknowledge MT week, which I think is a nice gesture.

Whoever brought up to the $25 gift certificate: That's at Christmas.

Very nice, always seemed to bend over backwards whenever I called.

Applicant has Some Ad Posting Tips for Data-Med
Hey, I applied for a job with your company. Here are some tips for you:

1. My first reaction was disgust at having to cut and paste my resume into the MT Stars form. Why couldn't you let the applicants send an email to your address so all the wonderful bullets and neat formatting that you requested (that actually most of your applicants probably had in their resumes) would stay clean and easily readable? It always seems very lame to me when companies won't even supply an email address--and suspicious. I've been scammed into free work on this board before. No email address means to me a red flag. And I despise posting my resume into that form.

2. The link to your web site on the MT stars template is broken. I don't know if you're aware of that or not. But, again, it was another red flag for me. Either you didn't have much attention to detail or you were a scammer.

Just some helpful information.
No support, basically taught myself the platform, which is semi complicated. Rushed me thru
;
It would be nice if they would provide an applicant with their test score.

?

It took me about 2 weeks. They are EXTREMELY patient and will bend over backwards
to work with you on whatever your needs are.
speaking of ethics

Can someone tell me how they would handle a situation in which the TASP you are typing on is also an MTSO. I was told initially they were not a transcription company, and later found out (thank you internet) they are indeed.  I would like to keep competition close, but that is pushing it.

They offshore and lie about it, their ethics
don't exist, no DD unless they changed it again.   I don't know anything about the radiology account though.
Sounds like she has the same ethics as a -
manager I once had. She'd disappear into her office for hours at a time, and behind her locked doors it turned out she had quite the little ebay business going. Never lifted a finger, otherwise. I was so glad to hear she finally lost her job.
15 minutes after sending my test files I was told she had already selected another applicant.nm

Thanks for the morning lesson on ethics.

There's no law against that, goodness. Poor ethics but

work ethics -- not just this profession
you will find there are those kind of people in any given profession.  Also you never know one's background and you cannot compare apples to oranges.  Providing wisdom for someone is far better and more professional and makes you the bigger person.
What happened to loyalty and ethics?
You sold out! You are a coward and you are weak. You are also a thief.

Question on Ethics on this Company
sincere question, not busting or kidding here. Is it legal for an MTSO to come on here and either start a thread praising their company, but pretending they are just an MT, or, is it legal for an MTSO or upper management to come on here and reply to posts asking questions of a company, again pretending they are just the MTs and giving their -- honest -- praises for a company. I ask this because I know for a fact that there is a current thread on here where this is happening, and I suspect it happens more than we all could guess.  The problem I have with it is that this particular company keeps getting painted as a dream place to work, and NOT by the MTs, when it is a true nightmare in reality.  So victim after victim after victim, including me, fall for these lies, which is truly what they are.  I know this is not ethical, but not much we can do with MTSOs and ethics these days. I know MTs can be threatened by MTSOs never to post something negative on here, for fear of repercussions, libel, slander, etc. But what about the shoe on the other foot?  If we know that a company is on here posing as an MT and lying right thru their teeth, or keys, can they get in trouble for it? Because I for sure would love to pursue this on at least the company where I know for a fact this is standard protocol.  Is there any monitoring agency or licensing agency or anyone who we could formally complain to about these practices, as to me its true fraud.  Any ideas? The MTs need all the help we can get making informed HONEST decisions, and this  lying garbage has got to stop.
Ethics? On an anonymous forum? (sm)
It's too much to hope for wanting people to be ethical on an anonymous forum. Just take everything you read with a grain of salt and post what you know to be the truth whenever you see flagrant bull being posted by unscrupulous people. Unfortunately, that's about all you can do. People do unethical stuff all the time in business. Sad but true.
It is a matter of ethics. I have been offered multiple jobs the last
year and have turned them all down because they offshore.  I stayed where I am because they didn't offshore.  TAT was a problem and I was getting weary of having to work every weekend, even though I did my lines during the week and then some, but I have days where I'm short 300-400 lines.  Do you think they got qualified MTs by going to India?  I have done QA on a trial basis on offshore work and I have seen the quality that comes from there.  If they are going to have to do 100% QA, they can't they do a mentoring program or take a newbie fresh out of school?  I've quit at least one job (non-MT) due to the unethical practices of a company.
you said it. Great work ethics these MTSOs. We should charge a retainer. That (sm)
would stop some overhiring.
Do you feel better now? !! Business is business, most of it should be confidential. Why post on a

Trying to build his business? He's been in business over 15 years!!!!!! sm
I also had a hard time, nearly impossible actually, getting paid. The owner does this on the side; he is very involved with other things.
If you don't know what is confidential, you have no business being in any business.
This is confidential information and should not be divulged. It is one of the biggest problems a co can have. If you have to ask...well I won't be able to explain it to you
Well, in J-school...
they taught us to NEVER hyphenate after any word ending in a "y"...but who knows if that applies in MT land...
What's the name of that school?
xx
Yes, but are you just out of school? sm
I understand it being possible with experience, but it is presented as being available from home directly out of a course.  I have yet to hear of or see that happen.  If so, please share!  I see more often than not people having trouble even getting that first job out of school.  I've been working my butt off with no raise and no appreciation now for almost a year and am sick of it.  I am currently starting a job with a new company and hopefully will find things better there.  Hopefully, for me and others, I just had a really crappy first experience.
If the school was A or M, you would have SM
had a job coming out the door.  I am guessing the school was C, and now you are finding out why C isn't the great school they make it out to be.
Which school did you go to?

A and M, as you put it, open the doors to companies that otherwise would not speak to a newbie, and  I did not have a problem securing a job.  You missed the point because you did not take the time to read my message.  Instead you judged me!

It is not fair or realistic to expect an MT that has just graduated to be as good and productive as someone that has been an MT for several years.  It is not right to ask the applicant to reveal social security and driver's license numbers along with granting permission to do a background check and to test before the applicant receives basic information about the company and/or job.  Also, a number of companies, recruiters and MTSOs have been complaining about the bad quality of some MTs, that they do not show up for work or constantly need time off while at the same time there are numerous graduates from the top two schools that are eager, willing and knowledgeable that are not given a chance despite the good name of the schools and a good GPA.  Many companies overhire which leaves some MT to find an empty queue at work sometimes.  Account managers make promises to give you more accounts but never find the time to do so.  It is also very difficult for a newbie if the QA people have less knowledge of the BOS, grammar, punctuation and terminology.

Many new grads post on the various boards that they send out a number of resumes and/or tested and never hear anything or after several weeks.  Any honest MT with several years' experence will confim that even after going to one of the top two schools it still takes up to a year before it clicks.  You never stop learning as an MT.  How is a newbie supposed to learn if he/she receives no feedback?   Some companies post on their website that they accept newbies but that they will treat them like MTs with experience.  Like the other responder stated, they seem to have forgotten what it is like as a newbie.  These people forget that at one point in their life they started as an MT with no experience.  How many of those people were grateful for that opportunity that enabled them to get where they are today?

I see an opportunity to build a whole new generation of willing and capable American MTs.  If we want to have better working conditions, if we want to be treated better, then we need to have an excellent education and be reliable.  We need to deliver, and then we can make demands.  Companies and MTSOs make promises they do not keep.  What is so wrong about letting an MT do discharge summaries if that is what he/she prefers and train them on other reports and accounts when work is a bit slower?  What is so wrong about limiting the number of doctors the MTs transcribe for?  Why don't companies that require the MT to use their computer provide an up-to-date spellchecker and drug database?  How can a company offer 5 cpl for an IC job?  Why doesn't anybody approach the doctors about their dictation practices?

Why can't we all just work together and try to change those things so many people are complaining about on these various MT boards?

Which school?
M-TEC and Andrews are heads and shoulders above Career Step.
I know I am old school but it seems to me
that if you cash a paycheck from someone, you should not badmouth them at the same time. I hated the Q, yes, I did, but I left. I did not keep on taking their money while bashing them. Just sayin', that's all.
When I went to school for this MT career
What happened?  I barely clear $30,000 a year in this field working for a national.  I'm in debt up to my eyeballs.  Someone please help me.
Poll: school vs. OJT, etc.

I was just curious....

How long have you been an MT?

Did you attend an MT school, or did you receive on-the-job training?

That's all for now.

Both. If you do school, expect to do OJT anyway. nm
x
I'd concentrate on school first (sm)
and don't even concern yourself on which companies allow flexible hours. You would be more concerned at that point on getting hired somewhere as a newbie. If you're serious about being an MT, then concentrate on school. Start now before the baby comes and see how far you can get. It's not just a few month endeavor. Then, when you have finished school and have hopefully done well, that's the time to worry about where you are going to work and the hours they will let you work. There are the big nationals, and also smaller MTSOs that might give you the work in the morning and expect it back the next morning, and you work on it when it's convenient for you as long as you get it back. But...the big thing will be completing school AND getting hired.
It's not so much the school, it's the individual.

Nursing School

I never think it's too late to do what you really want to do!.  I am an R.N. and can tell you that there is a severe shortage of nurses who really care about the people.

Go to school!  Make a difference in somebodys life!

Never too old to go to nursing school sm
When I was at the hospital, there were new grads there in their 50s. Go for it. Plenty of jobs out there in nursing.
That's about the age my mom was went she went to nursing school.
Plus, whether you go to nursing school or not, you're still going to be 41. Why not spend this time following your passion?
Less than average school
But why would someone settle for a less than average school? Do they want to be content with producing less than average work? As a businessperson, that is what I would be concerned with in hiring such a person. I would want someone who cared enough to get the best education out there from one of the big 3.
I am getting a job driving a school bus.
That cannot be taken out of the country. They start at $13 an hour. Give my brains a brake, I mean break.
