This issue IS... Do you want your QA that determines your errors, including punctuation, Indians.???

I have no problem maintaining quality and agree that 98% and above is acceptable and definitely quality what we all strive for, I just am offended that someone I cannot even understand and they cannot understand me, being the ones doing the quality checks on my work. That is my issue with it. You have not been there long enough. I was there a few months before they started bothering me. The problem was that I would tell them No, I cannot do the stat right now as I am logging off and they would still keep asking me. What part of NO in the English language is that hard to understand. Good luck with that.

Punctuation errors, not spelling
Didn't see spelling mistakes, but plenty of grammar/punctuation errors.
lol It's a punctuation issue!
MTs ... plural ...more than one

MT's ... possessive ... something belonging to one MT

MTs' ... plural possessive ... something belonging to more than one MT

You're too funny with your holier than thou crap! LOL

The above poster is right. There are a few spelling errors so maybe that is the quality issue that
the MTSO is bothered by. I'm not an expert and this is not being negative, just an observation. Maybe it all goes with concentration, being tired, burn out and everything in between. I have been so exhausted at times that I could barely remember how to spell my name. You need to slow down and this is a from a former 60-80 hours a week worker. It is not worth it.
They used to dock for errors and late payment was an issue. Don't know about recently. nm

What criteria determines whether or not IC

Issue of Correct Classification
A person working for a business as an employee or independent contractor is an important distinction. The first question is who determines if a person performing work for a business is an employee or an independent contractor? Answer: the IRS. The second question is how will a business who misclassifies an employee as an independent contractor get caught? Answer: IRS audit of the business, unemployment claim filed by a former worker, or a claim filed for worker's compensation benefits filed by a worker, a former contractor filing a Form SS-8 (Determination of Employee Work Status for Purposes of Federal Employment Taxes and Income tax Withholding) to mention a few. The third question is what are the consequences of being caught and having an independent contractor reclassified as an employee? Answer: the employer becomes responsible for both the employers and employees FICA (15.3% of gross wages), FUTA (currently $56 per year per employee), as well as the federal income tax (20% of gross wages). The IRS may also bring in the state and as a result, the employer may also become liable for the state income tax, as well as state unemployment and worker's compensation. Employer's may also face a penalty equal to the amount of the back taxes owed. Likewise, the employer will owe interest on all back taxes from the due dates. And, the business may be required to support the injured person for the rest of their life.

Common Law Rules
The following are a list of 20 questions the IRS uses to determine if a worker is an independent contractor or employee. The answer of yes to any one of the questions (except #16) may mean the worker is an employee.

Is the worker required to comply with instructions about when, where and how the work is done?

Is the worker provided training that would enable him/her to perform a job in a particular method or manner?

Are the services provided by the worker an integral part of the business' operations?

Must the services be rendered personally?

Does the business hire, supervise, or pay assistants to help the worker on the job?

Is there a continuing relationship between the worker and the person for whom the services are performed?

Does the recipient of the services set the work schedule?

Is the worker required to devote his/her full time to the person he/she performs services for?

Is the work performed at the place of business of the company or at specific places set by the company?

Does the recipient of the services direct the sequence in which the work must be done?

Are regular oral or written reports required to be submitted by the worker?

Is the method of payment hourly, weekly, monthly (as opposed to commission or by the job?)

Are business and/or traveling expenses reimbursed?

Does the company furnish tools and materials used by the worker?

Has the worker failed to invest in equipment or facilities used to provide the services?

Does the arrangement put the person in a position or realizing either a profit or loss on the work?

Does the worker perform services exclusively for the company rather than working for a number of companies at the same time?

Does the worker in fact make his/her services regularly available to the general public?

Is the worker subject to dismissal for reasons other than non-performance of the contract specifications?

Can the worker terminate his/her relationship without incurring a liability for failure to complete the job?

punctuation
First of all, we in QA do not have time to QA emails and do not try to be perfect in posts or in emails (give me a break once in a while) ...but I learned my punctuation skills in high school and in college English 101 and also from feedback prior to becoming QA. Dates should always be set off with comma. Nonessential clauses should be set off with comma. You don't understand this because you either never learned to diagram a sentence or you forgot it or you just don't care. There are sites on the Internet where you can learn this if you care. Why do MTs resent punctuation correction..do they think they do not get paid for commas?
It mostly was punctuation..

That I get counted off for, no major mistakes and yes my line count did drastically increase.

wow, what happened to all my punctuation
I put in the post above???
Your punctuation when to AlphaHeaven with all sm
the spaces that aren't counted anymore! :)
There is no way punctuation is giving SM
you that low of a QA percentage.  No way.  There have to be other issues (typos, incorrect terminology).  Even on short reports a couple of commas do not give you a QA score in the 80s.
I MEANT NOT DINGED FOR PUNCTUATION!!!

Who cares about punctuation and grammar?
With the doctors using EMR and VR without editing, these things are a thing of the past.  Medical records are a mess and nobody cares.
Punctuation and grammar still counts
As much as some may hate taking time to use the correct punctuation and grammar, it is still a part of the medical transcription industry. The ability to decide between correct and incorrect grammar and punctuation separates us from the machines.
Well, gosh, it has a punctuation component!!!
Because that's the big problem with all the VR work...a misplaced comma (or comment, coma, or karma in VR speak). I think they still have a way to go until they get a system that has enough real intelligence to figure out and translate when a dictator is repeating himself, correcting himself, stumbling over himself, or yawning while he speaks, or has the ability to go back three paragraphs later and fix what Dr. Mumbles said at the beginning of the report. Of course, all the MTSOs and hospitals looking to cut costs will p*ss away beaucoup bucks on this before they realize it's not the godsend they though, but not before they've driven down wages and driven up the unemployment rate. I'm all for technology, but let's work on getting something that will make our jobs easier, not these feeble, futile attempts to replace the Transcriptionist entirely.
if only a punctuation mark in an email address is wrong,
the email cannot be delivered to the inbox It has to be 'exactly' the same email address, exactly to the smallest detail.

Fishy, fishy....

I agree. You still have to know punctuation, proper English, tenses, sentence structure, etc. Show

Very little PTO and it is to be used for everything, including

sick days, vacation days, holidays -- really stinks !

I get 8.5 cpl including spaces, but
They pay 0.05 for weekends and another 0.05 for over 16,000 lines per pay period. If you keep your 11,000 lines per pay period you get almost 4 hours of PTO per pay period, which is about 10 days a year. No holiday pay, but usually offer a bonus if you work one. $40.00 internet reimbursement a month. The insurance costs me just under 100.00 a pay period for myself only, no family, but I think that depends on where you live.

Can't think of anything else, but they are good to work for...kind and honest.

I get 8.5 cpl including spaces, plus
for over 16,000 per pay period, which is relatively easy to get. I've got a great account though. I know some places may pay more, but we get what we are promised, on time, plus PTO and insurance if you need it, not free of course, but pretty resonable. An IC can make more per line, but end up losing becuase of the additional SS taxes and absolutely no benefits. I love TT and thank God every day for my job.
No it is everything including interventional
mammos, CTs, MRIs, PETs, etc. The docs are very good and the system is very easy -IDX. Guess I should just stay where I'm at.
9 cpl including spaces
..
I don't believe you get benefits including PTO unless
you maintain 5500 transcribed lines per week or 11,000 edited lines per week, or an average of the two. At least that is what my paperwork says.
But if they are saying per character are they including spaces?
I'd ask if a space = a character.  ;)
I couldn't find anyone, including TT, who would allow only ops.
nm
Do you happen to know if it would be any different including a spouse?
nm
No one here, including the OP whined about working..sm
a weekend! You assume way too much! Of course there are times we are going to all have to work weekends. The point of this whole conversation (since you obviously missed it) is how crappy it is for MTSOs to offer only one of two schedules...give up every Saturday for the rest of your life or a Sunday. Some people do like to go away for the weekend, to their child's Saturday soccer game, or to church! Rotational weekends are awesome and I do them myself! I won't however give up every single Sat. or Sun. until I leave this company. It's not happening!
Many of the ones in the "management" positions, including
ROMs, team leads, and the rest, have never been in management and do not know how to handle having power. It goes to their heads, so they are on an ego trip, they love to manipulate and care less about who they hurt on their way up. They only care about their bonuses and big pay checks. They take care of their friends and everyone else be damned.
Some good people used to work for MQ including

Transcribing = 9 cpl 65 characters including spaces.
Good company, great people. Give them a try.
I have worked for 4 companies, including MQ now which have lowered pay.
it is the way things are now. This career is going to the dogs.

It has nothing to do with Indians
It has to do with any MT of any nationality that will accept to work for peanuts. We had that saying IN-HOUSE back in the day before anyone had heard of off-shoring. Please don't try to look for racist meanings when there are none. What the saying means is that if you pay little enough, you will get a worker (no matter the nationality) who has the knowledge and abilities of a monkey. I have known plenty of that variety right here in the good old US of A.
WELL SAID - OSi people are quitting in droves including management
that's what forums are for.
Starbucks offers a lot of bennies, including health,
for part-timers.
Is 8 cpl/65 char including spaces good pay for Radiology?
TIA
About 5 years ago was offered 10 cpl including spaces, 65 characters. sm
Don't know about now. That was doing all acute care, mainly op reports with full benefit package.

I declined and have my own accounts, but it was a good offer.

Good luck.
Hmmm.must have missed that. I saw it on ALL accounts but for QA including the platforms that run out
of work constantly.
completing thought.....including on the Job Edit screen. nm

Close to 9 cents not including multiple incentives
.
I do work all hours, including my days off, and 3rd shift

to try to make up hours, but I'm short most weeks.   There are lots of accounts with low work, yet they keep hiring more.

I don't need the benefits, but I was told that if there is no work it will not affect benefits.   I am new too and not eligible for benefits until next month anyway, so I can't say if that is true or not.

TO PEOPLE WHO E MAILED ME FOR MY COMPANY (INCLUDING THE SOLICITOR)

I am sorry I can not state my company.  They are very small, only about 150 MTs, and they are not hiring right now.  I did see them post twice when I was looking, though.  Watch for the small U.S. Only job posts here on MT Stars.

To the solicitor from Infraware Platforms, I am in the MT business, not the IT business.  I very nearly did give out the name of my company, and now I am glad I did not!

I think that's because you don't have to pay the Indians to sign on - sm
and yes, I am being sarcastic!! :)
The Idots are the Indians.

What about editing the Indians?
nm
indians editing
THat is not true.... we QA editors never get Indian work, and some companied they get edited twice India and then final editing in US, and it is still crappy.
I'm sure the Indians who devised it, will not

Indians...Are they really that good?

if you like working for Indians you will like it.
all Indian all the time.
Indians = monkeys?
Regardless of how I feel about Indian outsourcing, that's a snide remark.
