Dialect/Accent

I don't honestly know what you are getting at here.  You state:

--In your mind if I say that Indians are intelligent, this makes me in your eyes an Indian? I know that a lot of people read these comments, but still they cannot detect my 'dialect'. I think you mean 'accent'. --

I have no comment on intelligence. I am saying that I realized mid argument regarding pro-Indian ownership, or Indian offshoring, that you are, indeed, of Indian origin somewhere along the line. I still stand by that. I know I am right.  That is not an insult at all, either, unless you are ashamed. It is what it is. Dialect is not a bad thing, as you seem to be interpreting. Dialect = a form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group. Or, discourse, a way of speaking -- Here, too, the word peculiar is not a bad word. English has many such double-meaning words.  Peculiar can mean strange or odd, but it also means -- belonging exclusively to, or particular. So, you do have a particular dialect, and that fits an Indian dialect. Yes, I can pick that up from reading your posts.  That is what I do for a living. An accent is something that is heard, auditory. I could pick up your accent if I heard you speak. Some people can completely drop their native accents, yet the way they format their words, or enunciation, or any number of things gives away their country of origin. Canadians, for instance, will often say what sounds like ABOAT, as in -- a boat -- when they mean the word ABOUT. That is an accent. I could never pick that up from writing. People from areas like the midwest and northern US pronounce words differently than the NE or the south. Roof is pronounced RUFE in the northeast, but RUFF, like a horse hoof, in midwest and upper states by Great Lakes. Dialects.  Dialect can be seen, as in writing, and heard. No harm or offense intended.  I obviously understand that you would be more trusting of someone or something from your origins, which is 100% understandable. I envy you for that trust based on knowledge.  Me, I am afraid. And my fear is not just blind fear. My fear is 100% justifiable, because those I fear have said they would eliminate me. So, me fear is justified. Big difference. But to argue with you is pointless, as you have different life experiences than the US MTs. That's my hypothesis, and I'm sticking to it!

Does she have a British accent?
I've been playing phone tag with a Cherul in northern California who's been trying to get ahold of me for about a month now...
Thank You all and I wasn't meaning ESL accent...
I was meaning ESL who can't speak English, but make up their own form of Americanese language (broken up/half-English)i.e. physical thrappy for physical therapy and palawong is echocardiogram, therefore the whole report is a big fat blank because I still couldn't figure out how palawong sounded echocardiogram. Thank MT@diskriter, I will give Diskriter a try and I hope to get 2 accounts and stay on those 2 accounts besides rotating accounts 4 or 5 times a week. The downtime sounds like some good insurance. Last job work 2 hours and had no work so I would sit and baby-sit the computer catching job here and there for about 19 hours for 600 lines due to no work and no pay. Thanks again all.
Ain't nutting wrong with that accent
It makes us the little stahs that we ahhhhh.
You mean Pakistani

Is the site owned by a Pakistani national, or a Pakistani-American?

If a Pakistani national, does everyone else here know that?  And if so, why do we use this site?

Where did you get your info?

Sheri did own it and now the owner is Pakistani...sm
There has been an ongoing brouhaha over this for quite some time now but it seems to have quieted down somewhat.
It is a Pakistani company, all upper management are pakistanis.

Focus is Indian run and you'll be editing Indian
work, so seriously doubt you'll make a bunch of $$ on editing.  99% of the MTs love KS.  If you'll just scroll down the page you'll see dozens of posts about them.
Probably not - I believe they are Indian run or Indian based company. nm

Go to their Indian website or other Indian websites
xx
Indian ran?
ugggggg
They ARE Indian!!!
If you want to take a chance and not believe what you read, you will see for yourself that they are ALL Indian RUN!!!! Some people are so hardheaded....they are a horrible company and Bobbi is a real MEAN person to deal with as well....NO WAY FOR FOCUS!!!
CMT for Indian MTs
As an Editor who worked an account for several years transcribed 100% by an Indian company, I am surprised to hear they are able to pass the CMT certification exam. Their transcription was comical at best and sheer nonsense at worst.
HIS has been Indian since day one.
It has not one whit to do with AAMT.  This company tried to recruit me years ago when they were first started and they were Indian then and still have their heavy ties.  You lost your jobs because Manor Care will not be deep pockets to a dying entity any longer and can't even sell the damned thing!!  Blaming AAMT is easy.  I think the letter you got may have been from the executive director and not the President.  Each of us, has to take responsibility for the choices we make with employment and having been through a lay off with HIS I had to blame myself ultimately for making a choice to be lied to and believe it because it suited me at the time.  Offshoring is over 15 years in existence and I guess here to stay so the next time you make an employment choice be sure you pick a company that does not offshore .. in the meantime, put the blame where is squarely belongs at your own doorstep and not AAMT.
...that should be Indian MTs. nm

Indian MTs
There are always exceptions.  I emailed often with one of the Indian MTs at one time.  His English was probably better than my own.  I think he was starting up his own transcription company and he was kind enough to ask me to work for him. (I was already working, but I considered it nice of him to ask).  Really, I do think he was the exception, he was a great fellow.  He was supporting his mom, his father had just passed away.  Now he has gotten married.  I do not exchange emails with him anymore but, if there were others like him, they would do pretty good.  I do not really think that there are others like him though.  Honestly, my primary account probably has 80% of his nationality.  Wish they could type those.
Indian.

Didn't you know this board is run by Indians??
I wonder what they pay the Indian MTs? ..sm
I guess it is now equal, we are paid the same as the Indian.
did you mean by chance Indian
.
So is that why the new US MT supervisor is Indian?
?!?!?!?!
I was doing some research on Indian
MT companies and from what I can tell probably all work is done in India.  They do hire U.S. editors, or at least they used to.
So, are your editors Indian?
I highly doubt it.
Indian company (nm)
x
That is correct! I don't! Obviously if you can tell they are Indian....
x
indian company
i bet it's an Indian company
Sounds like an Indian to me...nm
nm
They are not an Indian company - they are in NY
but they were offshoring A LOT of their transcription work. In fact, they lost quite a few clients about a year ago because the quality of the transcripts was just AWFUL!
Indian and Philippine.
yes.
I don't know name of company, but there is an Indian
company with at least a store front in MA.  Tech people could possibly be in MA, but are probably in India.
You mean they are hiring US MTs. Wonder why. They are almost 100% Indian. nm
:
All of the Indian MT work I have
proofread is full of errors. I guess there are exceptions out there.
Says they also use Indian MTs on their website. nm
s
Lartech is in TX but I think is mainly Indian run.
and very much slave labor pay.
They are Indian owned
Do a search on the Company Board. Many negatives and they are based on India. Can they even post job ads on this board?
Do you mean apart from them buying 2 Indian co's

They are wonderful for Indian MT.
xx
OP is probably Indian, hence the spelling.
nm
What's up with the Indian job ad on the classifieds?
Good grief!
It is an Indian run company.

Indian Company, are you sure??? nm

Indian MTs versus US MTs sm
I QA'd Indian work for about a year and a half and for the particular ones I QA'd, they did not seem to grasp feedback. The same errors by the same MTs would come across again and again. Additionally, please remembers that most of the Indian MTs are sent to cream of the crop dictators and all that is left for the US MTs are all the crap. That combined with low rates, they try to do as much as they can to try to make money and pay the bills. Just my opinion; please don't flame!
Indian company........nm
xxx
they are an Indian Company
nm
Yes and no. They are an Indian company so

$$ not bad if you live in India, but they only hire US editors to clean up the junk tha comes back from India and that is no where near enough money.   Because of them my company went out of business.

They are Indian owned and run.
nm
Indian MTs are not as productive as US MTs
It's a common fact; they send work to double QA. There was an article in Advance that I will try and find to provide a link that states this.

I doubt Transcend would lie about the work they send to India in their press releases and investor calls, they could get into a whole lot of trouble, and for what reason - just to stop the bashing on this board?

Indian owned and run....
It is being overtaken by Indians....used to be a great company - not anymore. Many have left there lately.

They'll just use you to make the Indians' work smell good to the US based clients then kick you to the curb. I wouldn't go there if my life depended on it now!
Indian giver?
How can you use a racist phrase like that when you know good well that the white man has taken this country from them and decimated their people?
thats what an Indian Giver is
A white man who gives the Indian a gift and then takes it away!
Indian giver.....
Although I am not 100% cherokee, I too am of Cherokee blood and I don't see that as a racist remark either. And all those righteous folks who blame all the white people of taking our land, well, several of those white people were my great uncles who married Cherokee women. There are very old writings of theirs in our ancestry where they did say they married them at first because they were against the Cherokee being forced to leave their land and that would give them a way to stay and farm. They then go on to say how they fell in love with those women and they did have many many children, many of whom were given Cherokee names along with their white man names; this was so they could get into school without prejudice. I am proud of both and I do resent all those self-righteous folks who think all white men took indian land. My white folk married Cherokee women in order for them to keep their land.

Yep, just trying to stir the pot! Get a life!
